‘World War Douche': Late night shows ruthlessly torch breakup of Trump-Musk bromance
Just hours after Elon Musk and Donald Trump were engaged in a vindictive social media spat, the late-night shows reveled in their spectacular meltdown. A simmering feud between the two men over Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' exploded into a full-blown war of words on Thursday evening. The back-and-forth quickly devolved into threats of terminating government subsidies for Musk's companies and the tech billionaire calling for the president's impeachment. Meanwhile, late-night TV hosts sat back and enjoyed the show as 'World War Douche' unfolded. 'For a few days now, there's been a simmering tension between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, the leader of the free world and the breeder of the free world,' the Daily Show 's Michael Kosta said in his opening monologue. 'But today, the conflict has escalated into a full-blown World War Douche.' Jimmy Fallon was left gobsmacked by the sheer speed and messy nature of the Trump-Musk break-up. 'I can't believe their relationship fell apart this fast. I mean, a week ago they were all over each other like Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner at a Knicks game,' the Tonight Show host quipped. 'But Trump didn't stop there. He also said that the easiest way for the country to save money would be to terminate all of Elon Musk's government contracts... Meanwhile, Elon's, like, 'Come on, man, don't do this. I have 100 kids to feed.'' Much of Thursday evening's commentary revolved around when Musk decided to 'drop the really big bomb,' claiming that Trump was on the client list of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. In January 2024, Trump posted on Truth Social that he 'was never on Epstein's Plane, or at his 'stupid island.'' The Late Show 's Stephen Colbert said that Musk was 'a little late' on the Epstein claims. 'Trump's gonna have to get one of those bumper stickers for his Tesla that says, 'I bought this before Elon told everyone I was on Epstein's plane,'' Colbert added. Colbert teased that Trump, in fact, has never been more relatable as a 'Tesla owner who hates Elon Musk.' Trump aides were blindsided when Musk shredded the president's centerpiece legislation over X on Tuesday, a source told the Wall Street Journal. The tech billionaire tweeted that Trump's spending bill a 'disgusting abomination.' He continued to dig in, without explicitly referring to Trump, posting on X that the president's so-called 'big, beautiful bill' will 'drive America into debt slavery.' Tensions reached a major turning point on Thursday in the Oval Office with Trump, sitting beside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, stating he was 'very disappointed with Elon' over his sharp critique of the president's showpiece tax bill. Musk fired back on X, stating: 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.'

Dakota Johnson's hilarious solution to near wardrobe malfunction
Dakota Johnson nearly had a wardrobe malfunction during a late-night TV appearance. On Monday's episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Johnson — who was wearing a black mini-dress with a plunging neckline — instantly regretted her decision. 'Oh God,' said Johnson, who was promoting her new film The Materialists. 'This is the wrong outfit.' 'No, no. I think it's perfect, you look great,' Fallon said. 'Just don't move.' 'My eyes are up here,' she joked. A dazed and confused Fallon playfully looked up to the ceiling and said, 'I don't know what to do. I'm confused.' After the TV host redirected the conversation, Johnson was still concerned about the possible malfunction. 'Tell me if there's a problem,' she said. 'Right now, there's not a problem,' Fallon quipped. 'There's almost a problem, but not quite — it's just … everything is going according to plan.' 'Does anyone have like, a blanket I could wear?' Johnson asked. Fallon handed Johnson a tissue that she placed in her cleavage. 'That's perfect. No one will even know the difference!' said Fallon. 'You look great!' Watch the exchange in the video player above. One year ago, the actress suffered another wardrobe malfunction while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live. 'Dakota, your dress just came unhooked,' Kimmel said to Johnson, who tried to maintain her poise as she clutched the detached metal strap of her black dress. 'Should I get some scotch tape?' Kimmel inquired. 'My dress just – it just fell off,' Johnson said, astounded, but with a smile on her face. 'It seems to be hanging in all right?' Kimmel countered. 'Well, I'll just hold it,' Johnson said, continuing the conversation in stride. 'Just hold the important part,' Kimmel joked. Johnson cheekily placed her hands on her chest, much to the amusement of the audience. 'The movie is really good,' she noted.

Johnny Carson's eldest son Christopher dead at 74
Johnny Carson's eldest son, Christopher Carson, has died at 74. The King of Late Night TV's close friend, Howard Smith, confirmed that Chris died earlier this year, during his appearance on Joe Sibilia's 'Nostalgia Tonight' podcast on Monday. He shared that Johnny's nephew, Jeff Sotzing, informed him of Chris' death two months prior. Smith did not reveal Chris' cause of death. Chris was living in Florida when he died. The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson host — who passed away in 2005 — shared three sons with his first wife, Joan Morrill Wolcott. They welcomed Chris in 1950, followed by his brothers Rick the next year and Cory in 1953. The pair divorced in 1963. 'When John died, I tried to keep in communication with Chris,' Smith explained. 'I moved and bought a house outside of Fort Lauderdale. And at this golf club that I joined, I said to the guys, "You guys know Chris Carson?" The guy said, "Oh yeah, he's a member here." And I go, "Oh God." I said, "Well, I'm trying, you know, I'm a friend of his dad and all that. And I've been trying to get a hold of Chris, and Chris never got back with me."' 'When I went to this show that Jeff put on about John, and it was a fantastic, two-hour show that he did for about 100 people, and I said, "So Jeff, what's happening with Chris?" And he looks at me, goes, "Howard, Chris just died last week."' '"Really?" I go, "Oh no."' Smith shared that his bond with Chris grew strong during Johnny's golf trips when he was younger. 'Chris was an avid golfer, and so when he used to come, he lived in Florida, Fort Lauderdale, when he used to come to visit his dad, he would bring his clubs, because I would take them,' he said. 'We would play golf together, and John wouldn't play golf. John did play golf at one time, but he would just ride along with us.' In the 1980s, Chris made headlines following the birth of his daughter, Christal Love Carson, with long-term girlfriend Tanena Love Green. Their split resulted in a highly publicized child support court case. During the trial, it was revealed that Chris worked as a golf instructor, but his main financial backing was from his father, who supplied him with cars, a house, and $35,000 each year. Chris' brother Rick died at the age of 39 in a car accident on June 21, 1991. Smith shared that 'Cory is still alive,' adding, 'But I don't know. They don't see anybody that much.' Chris and Cory both remained out of the public eye. Following Johnny's death in 2005, his loved ones emphasized his wish for his family to live privately. Johnny hosted the final Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson episode on May 22, 1992. Carson's audience, which was more than triple the size of all three current network late-night shows combined, made him incredibly affluential across the '60s, '70s, and '80s. He died in January 2005 at age 79.
