This tattooed star who worked with Jennifer Lopez is celebrating his 40th birthday, can you tell who he is?
This tattooed star made a splash at the Met Gala on Monday in New York City and is now celebrating his 40th birthday, can you tell who he is? He worked with Jennifer Lopez on a stage performance five years ago. This star is a Colombian singer and entrepreneur who has helped bring 'reggaeton' to the mainstream. He has sold more than 35 million records worldwide and is considered one of the best-selling Latin artists. And this man has won multiple awards, including six Latin Grammys, 11 Billboard Latin Music Awards, and five MTV Video Music Awards. Who is he? He is J Balvin. He worked with Lopez on a performance during the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show. They also collaborated on the song RITMO with Black Eyed Peas. This comes after Balvin said becoming a father brought him 'peace'. The singer welcomed son Rico, three, with model Valentina Ferrer in 2021 and says Rico is the best thing that's ever happened to him. He told PEOPLE: 'I became a father three years ago. That's one of the things that really marks this new album. I think that's really powerful. It also reminds me that I'm at peace. I know what I want more than ever. 'When my son was born, a switch went off in my brain that I have to enjoy life, and check all the small details and be grateful for all of them. I think this album comes from a really beautiful and grateful energy, more mature, and always keeping my DNA of good vibes.' Three years after the release of his fifth album 'Jose', Balvin has dropped new record 'Rayo' and he says his new attitude to life is evident in the music. He said: 'This album is inspired by when I was a kid doing music just for the love of the music, forgetting about the business. This is something that reminded me of my childhood when I wanted to be an artist. When I was the most hungry, it's when I was a kid. Balvin and Valentina Ferrer leave The Carlyle Hotel before the 2025 Met Gala: Superfine: Tailoring Black Style at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday 'Now, I still feel the same hunger that I had before, but I don't have to prove myself and I just enjoy the process of the music. That's why it's so important to me, this album, because I just had fun doing it. 'The beautiful thing was I didn't plan to make an album. It was just day by day, doing music for fun, and we ended up being like, 'Wow, we have so many songs. It's time to give the people a package of good energy.'' Last year J Balvin did an internship with Pharrell Williams at Louis Vuitton. The superstar - whose full name is Jose Balvin - told Hypebeast: 'I'm doing the Joopiter auction with Pharrell. Pharrell has always been a mentor to me and I've learned a lot from him about fashion, art, and creativity. So we are presenting my new creative design studio called VVT — Vita Veloce Team — which means 'fast life' in Italian. VVT is also a collaboration with the designer Mattias Gollin — an amazing creative guy.' Balvin says Marc Jacobs - who was creative director of LV from 1997 to 2014 - needs 'the credit he deserves' for paving the way for the likes of Pharrell and Yeezy founder Kanye West. He said: 'Yeah, ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to be at LV, even though I couldn't afford it back then. Marc Jacobs was the one who opened that up for the culture. Marc Jacobs was the one who gave the chance to Pharrell, to Kanye. That eventually led to the revival of the 'Millionaire Glasses'. That's when the Murakami collabs started. Marc Jacobs needs the credit that he deserves because he's the one who made this switch for culture. And then you saw what Virgil [Abloh] did — he created a whole world — and now it's Pharrell.' Balvin - who is a regular at Fashion Week and has called for greater representation of Latinos in the fashion world - is even prepared to do coffee runs for Pharrell during his internship. He continued: 'So it's one of my dreams to be a creative director at LV. I would love to do that. I'm actually arranging to do an internship with Louis Vuitton and Pharrell. He said yes, which is a blessing. So maybe I'll be there in January or February doing my internship for a month or two. I want to go and learn. I don't care if Pharrell is like, 'Get me a coffee.' I'll get him a coffee! I told him that. There's no ego here, man. I'll be Jose during the internship, not J Balvin.'

The 2025 Latin Grammys will return to Las Vegas for the 15th time
NEW YORK (AP) — The 2025 Latin Grammys are headed back to Las Vegas. The 26th annual award show will take place on Nov. 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It marks the 15th time the show has taken place in Sin City. The three-hour telecast will be broadcast live on Univision. Nominations will be announced on Sept. 17. Last year's ceremony was held at the Kaseya Center in Miami — the heart of Latin culture in the U.S., where the Latin Recording Academy is headquartered. Gabriel Abaroa Jr., the Latin Recording Academy's former president and CEO (2003-2021) and current president emeritus told The Associated Press in 2024 that the idea is 'to keep the Latin Grammys traveling, because it shows the nature of our music.' The inaugural Latin Grammy Awards were held in Los Angeles in 2000, followed by shows in Miami, New York City, Houston, Seville, Spain and Las Vegas. The 2023 Latin Grammys were held in Seville, Spain, the first and only time the show took place outside the U.S. The move, facilitated by a nearly 19 million-euro deal between the government of Andalusia and the Latin Recording Academy, sparked some controversy, with some criticizing the Latin Grammys decision to hold the show in the very European country that colonized much of Latin America. 'In the next couple of years, you will see another international edition of the Latin Grammys,' Manuel Abud, CEO of The Latin Recording Academy told AP last year. In a statement partnering the 2025 announcement, Abud said, 'We are proud to once again bring the passion and creativity of Latin music to Las Vegas. The city has welcomed the Latin Grammys over the years, and we look forward to another great Latin Grammy week celebrating Latin music and its creators.'
