As Joey Bada$$ handles California cats like Ray Vaughn, Reason, AzChike and Daylyt on his lonesome, it looks like the West Coast isn't giving up last year's 'Not Like Us' and GNX-feuled momentum without a fight. Over the past few months, Joey has been heralding his return to the rap game with slick boom-bap tracks that have given way to a legitimate coast vs. coast battle. Although his real target is Kendrick Lamar, Joey — and his West Coast adversaries — have helped maintain the competitive, bars-focused spirit of hip-hop at the forefront of the genre as 2025 rages on. On Thursday (May 15), a court granted Grammy-nominated singer and actress Halle Bailey temporary physical and legal custody of her son Halo, whom she shares with her streamer-rapper ex-boyfriend DDG. The ruling came one day after Bailey secured a restraining order against DDG, alleging physical and verbal abuse. On Friday (May 16), Drake shared a petition urging Calif. Governor Gavin Newsom to pardon Tory Lanez, who's currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted on three felony counts tied to his shooting of Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020. That same day, Chris Brown was denied bail during a court hearing for his assault charge in Manchester, England; he remains in police custody with an 'inflicting grievous bodily harm' charge, which has been tied to a February 2023 London nightclub attack allegedly involving the Grammy-winning singer. In other news, Trey Edward Shults' Hurry Up Tomorrow, a psychological thriller film that serves as a companion piece to The Weeknd's Billboard 200-topping album of the same name, opened with a paltry $3.3 million at the domestic box office. Moe separates himself from Cash Cobain's sexy drill lane with moody tracks such as 'Midnight Club,' which showcases sonic versatility while staying true to himself. The entire project is well worth a listen for drill savants looking for a breath of fresh air. — MICHAEL SAPONARA'Easier Done Than Said' is a sensual tug-of-war about proving love through action instead of talk. Jvck James opens the song acknowledging that lavish gifts still leave his partner doubting his love for her, so he offers something more convincing: physical presence and demonstrable care. The hook insists that showing beats telling, because words breed hesitation while deeds silence second-guessing. Stormzy's verse deepens that theme; he flips between playful bravado and genuine vulnerability, confessing he ditched his pride and 'took the wrong approach,' yet is now ready to kneel and 'make a pledge.' His string of cheeky innuendos covers a core admission: months of emotional cat-and-mouse have proven words unreliable, so commitment must be felt, not argued. 'Go' Head,' a Western-infused party anthem produced by her husband, Yogi the Producer, and Boi-1da is an instant standout on the three-time Juno Award-winner's new project. Built around a finger-picked guitar loop, Savannah delivers a party anthem that's a welcome deviation from her midtempo comfort zone. 'She ain't never lied, she a real one/ Bust it open wide in the middle/ Make that shit bounce, let it jiggle/ All my bitches live and they with it/ Acting like they need love/ I'm just tryna get some,' she croons in the chorus. — Claudio is gearing up for the release of her Fall in Love With Her album (out June 6), and she gave fans a final taste of the project with the LP's poignant closer 'Memory Foam.' Claudio's feathery vocals glide over guitar strings as she reflects on leaning on a best friend to fill up her cup and recharge after being drained by toxic relationships. 'My heart's like a blade of grass/ You can cut it to pieces, but it keeps growing back,' she resiliently sings. — M.S.'We Don't Have to Be Alone' finds Thee Sacred Souls gently dismantling the idea that companionship must be wrapped in declarations of 'I love you.' Over buttery horns and unhurried drums, lead vocalist Josh Lane tells a potential partner that wanting each other tonight is reason enough to close the gap between two lonely hearts; no grand labels, vows, or lifelong promises are required. By repeating that 'lonely days lead to lonely nights' but 'we don't gotta be alone,' he reframes intimacy as a simple, honest choice made in the present moment. For them, authenticity is measured by honesty and mutual warmth, not by conventional milestones. Latto Says She's ‘Big Daddy' While Rocking Carmelo Anthony's Syracuse Jersey
Latto headlined Syracuse University's Block Party 2025 over the weekend, and she got around to posting some pictures from her time on the central New York campus on Tuesday (April 29). While she'll always be Big Mama, Latto went by Big Daddy in Syracuse as she rocked a throwback 'fit that went diamond in the streets of New York in the early 2000s. Latto donned a Syracuse Carmelo Anthony jersey with baggy True Religion jean shorts and a pair of Timberland boots. Anthony led Syracuse's basketball team to a national championship in 2003. Latto Says Her ‘Body Count' Lyrics Aren't ‘That Deep': Just ‘Don't Let Everybody Put Their Hand in That Cookie Jar, Period'
Latto doesn't think fans should take her lyrics about body count that seriously. The Atlanta rapper recently made an appearance on Complex's 360 With Speedy Morman, where she was asked about the debate she spurred online about how many sexual partners a woman has, between her past lyrics and an appearance on TheTylilShow Live. Don't let everybody have access to you.'' She then added that her view on body count also applies to men. 'I think men should be like that too. Y'all just be slangin' that mother—-er around.' Speedy then asked why she felt proud about having a low body count, after she claimed that she never said having multiple partners were a bad thing. 'It's not necessarily like a number that I'm proud of,' Latto responded. 'It's more so, everybody ain't touched this, everybody ain't had their hands on this mother—-er, you feel me?' The 'body count' drama started when Latto and her younger sister Brooklyn were making a social video to promote her single 'Somebody' and Latto asked Tylil if he cared how many partners his girlfriend has had. 'Do you care how many bodies your girl got?' she asked before the popular streamer replied with, 'Nah, hell no, that don't got nothing to do with me' and asked why she always mentions body count in her raps and if she thinks fans believe her. 'I don't give a f— if they believe me; my n—a believe me,' she fired back. Latto has mentioned body count on songs like 'Sunday Service' and 'Somebody,' where she raps, respectively, 'Anyway, body count so low, I might say I'm a virgin' and 'I don't care about your bodies.' Elsewhere in the conversation, Latto was asked about her net worth reportedly being $5 million, and while she claimed that specific number is off, she also said having money isn't as fun as some might think. 'It's kinda boring,' she said after being asked what it feels like to be able to buy whatever she wants. 'For me? I was a millionaire at 21, so you grow up fast already being in the industry at a young age, and then you get a lot of money at a young age too. After weeks of teasers, Rob49 has finally debuted his 'WTHELLY' remix — featuring guest verses from stars including Justin Bieber, Latto and G Herbo — on a recent Twitch stream. Rob debuted the revamped track on popular streamer Reggie's latest Twitch session earlier this week. Latto popped up first on the track, bringing some braggadocios bars before G Herbo jumped in with his rambunctious energy. Bieber then slid in as the beat slowed to a crawl, with the pop star soulfully cooing over the track. Rob also name-drops other celebs on the actual song, inclduing LeBron James, Halle Berry and Miley Cyrus. While it's unclear when the 'WTHELLY' remix will drop on streaming services, this new rework comes after Rob hopped on songs with Skrilla, NoCap and YTB Fatt earlier this year. Latto Samples Aaliyah on New Single, "Somebody"
Summary Lattois going on vacation this summer. After unveiling a summer slate of European and UK tour dates, the rapper is now traveling to Jamaica for her first new solo release sinceSugar Honey Iced Tea. Dubbed 'Somebody,' the single samples Aaliyah's 1998 hit 'Are You That Somebody.' The sensual summery track flips the 'Are You That Somebody' hook, with Latto crooning on the chorus: 'I really need somebody / Tell me you that somebody / I don't care about your bodies / Uh, love the way you touch my body.' 'Somebody' also comes with its official music video, directed by Latto's sister and set in serene Jamaica and starringPopcaanas Latto's on-screen love interest. It follows up the remix to 'Blick Sum,' for which the rapper brought on Playboi Carti to add a verse onto the fan-favoriteSugar Honey Iced Teacut.
