EastEnders split confirmed for major couple as a family is torn apart
It's been a difficult time for EastEnders' Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and Peter Beale (Thomas Law) lately, but things are set to turn nasty between them next week when their relationship hits the rocks. The couple were devastated last month when doctors informed them that their baby son Jimmy had been born severely sight-impaired. Lauren initially blamed herself for Jimmy's diagnosis, believing it was caused by her painkiller addiction while she was pregnant, but gained a fresh perspective after some meaningful conversations with Stacey and Lily Slater (Lacey Turner and Lillia Turner). However, Peter's struggle to come to terms with the news is set to rip their family apart in forthcoming scenes. On Monday, an increasingly distant Peter dismisses Lauren's pleas to join her and local well-wishers in the Square, prompting his warring mum and gran Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) and Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth) to put aside their feud to try and help the couple. But Lauren is left devastated when Peter later turns around and blames her for Jimmy's health. Peter's harsh words push recovering alcoholic Lauren to the brink of a relapse, and she heads to both The Vic and Harry's Barn for a drink but is refused service. After Peter finally bonds with his newborn son following Cindy's encouragement, he heads to the hospital without Lauren for an appointment about Jimmy, where he is warmed by an encounter with a fellow patient. However, Peter's positivity is quickly ruined when he returns home and discovers Lauren has almost relapsed. After a huge row, Peter breaks up with Lauren and hits her with the bombshell that he's going to fight for custody of their sons. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? More Trending But as it becomes clear Lauren is hiding something, a suspicious Peter heads to The Vic to ask solicitor Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) about custody advice. Unfortunately, Honey overhears and tells Lauren, who then heads to No.45 to officially end things with Peter… Is this the start of a bitter battle between them? And could this pave the way for the long-awaited return of Lauren's dad Max Branning (Jake Wood)? EastEnders fans ‘work out' wild new romance for returning Max Branning
EastEnders fans are already speculating about Max Branning's (Jake Wood) return. It was reported over the weekend that the love rat would be heading back to Albert Square after four years. The last time we saw him, Max decided to call time on his life in Walford to join daughter Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and grandson Louie in New Zealand. It later transpired that Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) – who he had an affair with the previous year – was pregnant with their daughter Annie. Lauren first met her younger sister last year, though it hasn't been made clear if she ever told Max that he fathered another child. In scenes that air this week, her newborn son Jimmy will be diagnosed with a visual impairment, with Linda comforting her through the difficult news. Is this what will bring Max home? 'Jake's return is huge news for EastEnders fans as his character made a massive mark on the show,' a source told The Sun. 'It'll raise some eyebrows after he was absent from the 40th anniversary earlier this year. Bosses are excited about what his character's reappearance means for spicing up the plots. 'There is plenty to go at. Max has loads of unfinished business in the Square and is set to ruffle some feathers.' His scandalous relationship with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) was also referenced recently. Back in 2007, almost 15 million of us tuned in to see their affair exposed on Christmas Day in front of the entire Branning and Slater families. One of their dalliances – on Stacey's wedding day to Max's son Bradley (Charlie Clements), no less – had been recorded by Lauren (then Madeline Duggan). Despite the obvious history, viewers are convinced that he's probably eyeing up another resident. Cindy flippin' Beale (Michelle Collins)! Surely it's only a matter of time before womaniser Max seeks out a new Walford lady, and while it's likely that he's likely that a reunion with Stacey will be at the top of his list, they're never going to be able to play happy families. Now I'm now advocating Cindy Beale as the most grounded of residents, but given she's here for the long-term and has literally zero friends or family on her side, it's about time she starts settling down. Ian will always be the one for her – there's no doubt about that – but as much as they love one another, they're just not compatible. Almost four decades of baggage has proved testament to that. As for Max, there's always the likelihood that old feelings could resurface for Linda too, especially when he realises they share a daughter. It's certainly going to be an interesting return! Even if a romance doesn't happen, they'll certainly share scenes as Max was responsible for the death of her eldest son Steven (Aaron Sidwell). At one point he was also chief suspect in the murder investigation of Cindy's daughter Lucy (Hetti Bywater). 'Before Max and Cindy predictably get together. Some things need to be re-addressed. He was sleeping with Lucy and ultimately was the reason Steven died' said one fan. More Trending 'Max Branning coming back to #EastEnders 50 quid bet that he ends up in Cindy's bed before the end of the year!' added another. A third demanded: 'Max Branning finally on his way back to Albert Square is the news I needed. I need the Max and Cindy partnership ASAP.' Shameful Cindy doesn't care who she upsets, and sleeping with the man who tore her family apart is definitely something she'd consider! View More » This article was first published on May 19, 2025. Jacqueline Jossa's three-word take on heartbreaking EastEnders storyline
EXCLUSIVE: Jacqueline Jossa has reflected on a recent EastEnders storyline which saw her character, Lauren Branning, blame herself after learning her son, Jimmy, would not be able to see Jacqueline Jossa opened up on the British Soap Awards 2025 red carpet about her heartbreaking EastEnders storyline about her sight-impaired baby son. The 32-year-old soap star is a mum-of-two in real life, while her character, Lauren Branning, also has two. The BBC soap character is mum to Louie and Jimmy, sharing both her children with her now-fiancé, Peter Beale. Speaking to the Mirror, Jacqueline confessed that working on a storyline about a young child struck her hard. She said: 'It's been tough, and has really pulled the heart strings, especially being a mum.' She praised bosses for highlighting the issue, and was very much looking forward to letting her hair down with the rest of the cast. Asked her about rumours her dad, Max Branning, played by Jake Wood, would be coming back to the soap, she said: 'They don't tell me anything because I am the worst at keeping secrets!' Earlier this month, EastEnders fans were deeply moved by a storyline showing Lauren and Peter learning that their son, Jimmy, was severely sight-impaired. Lauren had suspected something was wrong with her son, but struggled to gain medical aid. After speaking to Linda Carter, played by Kellie Bright, Lauren decided to take action, only to be brushed off by a hospital receptionist when she tried to get medical help for her young son. Jimmy's diagnosis was not discovered until other members of Lauren's family came to question what was wrong with the young lad. They were told that Jimmy's eyes hadn't developed, and as a result, he would be visually impaired for life. Heartbroken, Lauren blamed herself due to past addictions and, in emotional scenes, she was seen pleading with her son for forgiveness and that they would be together for life. The screen then faded out and a slow theme tune was played, opposed to the original, as the stand alone episode came to an end. The emotional episode left fans in tears, with many taking to social media to praise Jacqueline on her performance. "Really powerful performance from Jacqueline Jossa today," said one. Another echoed: "Jacqueline Jossa is going to be amazing during this storyline, I was in tears the whole time." And a third praised the special, writing: "Phenomenal episode." A further fan agreed, writing: "Jac really is phenomenal." And another emotional fan penned: "#Eastenders writers do everything in their power to make me cry. And it works every time." It was revealed last week that the soap were working with advice from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) on the upcoming storyline. Speaking of the storyline, EastEnders Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw said: 'It was imperative that we worked with RNIB and experts in the field when consulting on Jimmy's visual impairment storyline to ensure it was portrayed sensitively and accurately. The story will continue to develop over time as we look to focus on how the diagnosis affects Lauren and Peter as parents, their family and later, the effects this will have on Jimmy.'

'We keep ourselves to ourselves': Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman don't hang out with famous Cotswolds neighbours Posh and Becks
Lauren Silverman, wife of Simon Cowell, has claimed the cohort of celebrities living in the Cotswolds typically keep themselves to themselves. The music mogul and his other half - who bought an £8 million farmhouse in Oxfordshire in 2021 - might be neighbours with the likes of David and Victoria Beckham, but Lauren insists they don't all hang around together. Speaking to Closer UK magazine, Lauren - who has 11-year-old son Eric with Simon - said when asked about living near the power couple: "They are our neighbours!" She insisted: "We keep ourselves to ourselves. "We're just ... it's not like a full compound of [celebs] there." Bruno Tonioli, who serves as a judge on Simon's talent show 'Britain's Got Talent' and spends time with the family at their country abode, added in the joint interview: "There's a little group that get together. "It's good to keep what you do in your private life very separate. "Nobody knows what's going on and I like it that way." Lauren noted: "Bruno is like family to us. He is." She noted that their son calls him "Uncle Bruno". Other celebrities who have made the Cotswolds their home include Jeremy Clarkson and his wife Lisa, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Kate Moss, Elizabeth Hurley, and Hugh Grant.

This £18 mascara has made me ditch my ride-or-die after 10+ years
Shopping writer Lauren has been asked multiple times if she is donning false eyelashes when wearing this bestselling formula As a beauty writer, I test new products almost daily - from buzzy TikTok launches to under-the-radar gems. But like many people, I have my beauty staples I rarely stray from: MAC's mauve pink Mehr lipstick, Jo Malone's Pomegranate Noir perfume and, up until recently, Estée Lauder's Double Wear Lengthening Mascara. That was until My Mascara by Sculpted by Aimee landed on my desk. One coat later, and I haven't picked up Double Wear since, meaning I've said goodbye to a decade of regular use. Retailing for a very reasonable £18 on the brand's website and at Boots, Sculpted by Aimee's ultra-black mascara has completely won me over. The curved wand is a game-changer - it hugs the lash line perfectly, coating each individual lash and leaving them looking fuller, lifted, and longer. It's also impressive long-wearing. I can apply it in the morning and trust that it'll stay put without smudging until I take it off, which, admittedly, takes a little effort. Get the look £18 Sculpted by Aimee Buy Now on Sculpted by Aimee Product Description I have to use a couple of face wipes or a proper eye makeup remover to get the last trace off, so it's worth considering. But honestly, it's a small price to pay for lashes that look this good. If you'd prefer an easier removal process, there are alternative options available. Benefit's Badgal Bang! is great for lifting lashes, but it's also easy to apply and remove. Likewise, the MACStack Mascara Mega Brush is easy to remove with a single face wipe. Back to Sculpted by Aimee, I'm not the only one who is impressed. Clinical testers back me up, with 92% of testers saying their lashes looked more voluminous. Meanwhile, 95% agreed lashes looked longer. My only slight gripe, aside from it being a little difficult to remove, is that it can appear slightly clumpy on the first swipe. But with a couple more strokes, it evens out beautifully, separating the lashes and building up that full, fluttery effect without going spidery. All in all, I didn't expect to find a new mascara after more than a decade, but here we are. Sorry, Estée - I've got a new favourite. Shoppers can purchase My Mascara by Sculpted by Aimee through the brand's website and at Boots.
