Big expansion planned for Lazy E Arena in 2026

GUTHRIE, Okla. (KFOR) — There are some big changes in the works for the Lazy E Ranch and Arena in Guthrie! It's known for bull riding and rodeos, but get ready, because it's about to get even bigger. 'Since the Lazy E opened in 1984, we've been one of the premier event facilities in the nation,' said Dan Wall, the Vice President and General Manager of the Lazy E Ranch and Arena. It's been a Guthrie staple for four decades and it's been home to all sorts of events, but as time goes on, a new expansion is on the horizon. 'As times change, the industry has grown, the demands of our events that call lazy e home have grown and changed,' said Wall. LOCAL NEWS: Bedlam basketball returns to Paycom Center Plans to expand were talked about a year and a half ago. 'We needed to add some additional infrastructure to keep those events up to speed,' said Wall. One of the major projects is the new 30,000-square-foot event center. They're also building a new covered arena, upgraded animal stalls, and revamped bathrooms. Wall said all of this will bring the opportunity to host bigger events at the Lazy E Ranch and Arena. 'The new venue will allow for big commercial trade shows, horse sales, and the new arena will allow us to have more action going on at the same time,' said Wall. Since 1984, the Lazy E has catered to the community and is also a huge economic driver to the Edmond and Guthrie area. 'We produce 42 to 44 events a year. The aggregate of all of those events, the economic impact would be in the hundreds of millions of dollars,' said Wall. Construction is expected to be ready for use by January. Construction begins in Yukon on Garth Brooks Boulevard

YUKON, Okla. (KFOR) — Construction has started on Garth Brooks Boulevard in Yukon and the city is anticipating it to last for 315 days. It starts on Andrew Drive and ends on Health Center Parkway, but the on and off ramps to I-40 may also be affected during the construction. 'You can tell the city is growing like crazy, which is a great thing for Yukon, but it's made everything pretty congested at times,' said Dr. Eric Mead, Smile Today Dentures and Implants. LOCAL NEWS: Big expansion planned for Lazy E Arena in 2026 The city said the road will go down to one lane, so traffic could back up on either end, and that has some businesses wondering what that will look like during busy hours on the road. 'It may congest patients coming in and out of the practice, but we're still going to be here,' said Dr. Mead. According to the City of Yukon, they're resurfacing the road, adding new turn lanes to help with congestion, and updating traffic signals and sidewalks for extra safety. The changes have locals hopeful for the future of Yukon. 'We think that it's really going to open up everything, its going to be a lot nicer for people traveling,' said Dr. Mead. 'I'm glad that they're definitely expanding, we definitely need it, we need the upgraded roads,' said Luke Jacquemin, a Yukon resident. But waiting until it's complete is where there's concern. 'Schools fixing to start, so that's definitely gonna be an extreme headache, cause some wrecks probably,' said Jacquemin. The changes are funded by an 80-20 split between the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the City of Yukon. ODOT is funding 80% and the other 20% is funded by Yukon's Capital Improvement Fund. LOCAL NEWS: 'No knock list' allows Yukon residents to ban solicitors 'The bulk of our highway projects are funded through the federal highway bill, and that's where we get most of the money for our general construction improvements,' said T.J. Gerlach, an ODOT Spokesperson. In addition to the road going down to one lane on Garth Brooks Boulevard, the on and off ramps of I-40 will be affected as well. 'Whenever each ramp is due for its time, we'll have to close it or narrow it, obviously, when that happens, we'll make sure to get the word out to the public,' said Gerlach. Construction crews were starting to set up on Monday morning to get ready for road repairs. It's unclear what time road closures will officially start. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
