Forget You Not – Season 1 Episode 8 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

If You Forget, I Will Remember It All For You Episode 8 of Forget You Not starts this finale with Le-le struggling to find a caregiver for Kuang-chi. Yani is not here, so Le-le needs to take him to the hospital alone. She's barely sleeping, she's handling a lot and she's struggling to keep it all together. Le-le continues to show up late to work at the Mart too and she's reprimanded by her boss. He's contemplating whether to let her go on given how unreliable she is and he doesn't want to hear about her personal issues either. For now, she's allowed to keep working but Le-le is not doing herself any favours here. Le-le tries to put on a brave face and although she's not a mother, she has become one to Kuang-chi. This offer to move out to Singapore with Kai is still floating around in her mind but she can't go anywhere right now as she needs to look after her father. How is Le-le feeling? Le-le is feeling alone but she's also absolutely exhausted. She's dealing with overwhelming guilt as a result of all this too, which she vents to her father about. She likens her life to trying to hold onto sand, with the grains of her life slipping through her fingers without being able to hold onto anything substantial. That night, things take a turn for the worst when Kuang-chi is brought into hospital again, this time with pneumonia from choking. Le-le is there with him but it's clear that his condition isn't getting any easier here. Back home, Le-le shows off the old family photos to her dad and all these memories work well to recontextualize their relationship over the years. It's a nice way of showing Le-le embracing the good and the bad times from the past, but without the unreliable narration that she's been plagued with much of the season. What happens after Kuang-chi's death? When Kuang-chi does pass away though, Le-le seems to be handling it well but she's detached and very much coasting her way through the days. She closes the bank accounts, boxes up all his possessions and starts to work her way through the grief. While sorting through the old gear, Le-le finds a camcorder Kuang-chi has and there's a video there for her. Turns out Kuang-chi has made a whole bunch of recordings as a way of showing she's not fully alone, especially after her mother left. These videos works really well to help Le-le work through the list of acquaintances and friends that have helped Kuang-chi all this time. Interestingly, this also reconceptualizes her feelings about Kuang-chi and now that he's gone, she realizes how cold and standoffish she's been with him all these years. From the blunt calls to berating him for not putting her first, Le-le lets her tears fall. Her dad's words strike a chord with her, especially when he does another video and tells her that one day he'll not be there and she'll slowly forget him. It's a sobering examination of how this man feels about his coming death, and something that Le-le also had to handle now too. How does Forget You Not end? Funnily enough, this entire ordeal has caused Su-fei to rethink her current campaign at the agency too, while Le-le gets back on stage and does another comedy routine. She mentions Kuang-chi's death but this time, she mixes it in with humour and sentimentality. Le-le is also humble too, bringing up how she needs the Talk Show and points out how lucky she is to have the crowd hang on her every word. She eventually gets a round Of applause when she decides to keep her dad's wishes of searching for aliens alive. It's something that I've not mentioned in these recaps but its been a running theme throughout these 8 episodes. Le-le is determined to keep his memory alive and wants to keep talking about Kuang-chi so his memory will never fade. Le-le decides she's going to continue mining her father as a source of comedy and has now come to realize how much she does love her dad. The Episode Review It's hard not to shed a tear at the end as Forget You Not closes things out with a beautifully sentimental conclusion that wraps up our central conflict. Le-le finally comes to realize how much she's needed her father, who has always been this constant figure in her life that she's taken for granted until it's too late. It's a sobering reminder of how we take our parents for granted and how, one day, they wont be there anymore and it can feel like the whole sky has fallen down on top of us. The show captures that core essence beautifully and the characterisation has been on-point throughout. The show very much plays out as a slice of life drama rather than an uplifting or overly whimsical piece. This could be one of the underrated gems this year, and as far as Asian dramas go, this one's definitely a great watch. It's a sobering reminder that our time on this planet is finite and we should take advantage of every second of it. Previous Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Forget You Not – Season 1 Episode 1 Recap & Review

Time Is A Butcher's Knife Episode 1 of Forget You Not begins with us at a bustling market, where a little girl loses her father in the crowd. This is Le-le and her father, Kuang-chi, has a habit of putting others ahead of his own daughter. Le-le has always had a tumultuous relationship with her dad, whose whimsy and playful behaviour does not go over well with his daughter – especially on her wedding day when he's late and ends up crashing his bike en-route. Her husband, Chang-kai, does his best to support her while she stalls for time. There's also Lin Chai-yun and Huang su-fei, Le-le's two best friends whom we follow across the season. Furthermore, it's worth noting that Le-le has unresolved trauma with her mother too who left when she was 8. Unfortunately, as she trauma-dumps at the wedding through the medium of stand-up, it doesn't go over well with Kai's parents. Yep, Le-le is a stand-up comedian by trade and her awkward impromptu speech is interrupted by word of her dad, Kuang-chi, being admitted to hospital after falling off his bike. This is apparently a pretty regular occurrence and the mood soon changes though when Le-le finds out that her dad has started to exhibit the first signs of dementia. Le-le shrugs it off as her dad just messing about like always, but she hasn't seen him for 2-3 months so it's hard for her to say for certain. The thing is, she has a bad opinion of her dad, but according to him, he did a lot with her growing up. It's here we cut forward in time, but the show doesn't explicitly tell us this until later in the same scene. Over at Kuang-chi's, she finds the place a complete mess and her father has definitely been forgetting dates and people too. Included within those dates are Chang Kai, whom Le-le is apparently separated from now. Le-le works at the local FamilyMart during the day between gigs, but her comedy work is struggling too. She does a good job segwaying the set into the topic of her getting older, which appears to be the theme of this series ,and it also ends this episode too. The Episode Review Forget You Not shares some similarities with Navillera and other shows of its kind, leaning into the dementia angle and trying to bridge a severed relationship and heal past trauma. This show very much leans into the sentimentality and this father/daughter relationship that looks set to encapsulate this drama. Le-le's stand up comedy works well as a narrative device to bridge the different scenes together, although it's not always clear exactly what timeline we're in, given there are inconsistent scenes stitched together, making it a little difficult to follow the flow of everything. Whether by design to emphasize the confusion of dementia or not though is up for debate. Regardless, everything here is set up nicely for what should be a dramatic and emotionally charged series. Forget You Not – Season 1 Episode 3 Recap & Review

When Did We Fall Out Of Love? Episode 3 of Forget You Not starts with Le-le up on stage discussing relationships. She brings up how there are double-standards when you're falling in or falling out of love, while Le-le's own tumultuous ride with Chang-Kai comes crashing down around her. But how did this happen? Well, we cut back in time and see the full context of their messy relationship in this episode. Kai continues to head out and view all of Le-le's sets, he visits her at the Mart and the pair continue to flirt and hang out too. While they're in their honeymoon period, Kai receives a message come through about finally being made partner of the law-firm. Not long after, he proposes to her over dinner and the pair get engaged. The earlier scenes soon change though from their initial fun and laughter to more comfortable tranquillity together. We can already start to see the cracks in their relationship here, as the pair forget the reason why they fell in love in the first place. Most notably though it comes from Kai no longer showing up at her sets. While this is going on, Kuang-chi continues to ride his bike and cause drama back home. They have a bit of a plumbing mishap and it causes Le-le to completely forget about an important dinner with Kai's colleagues. He's a man in high demand and the lawyers want him to spread his wings and head abroad. Kai though is going to think about it but he's not happy about his wife's absence. When Le-le realizes she's late, she rushes out to try and make it to the dinner. She does eventually show up but she's a complete mess and embarrasses Kai in the process. In fact, Kai lies to his colleagues about what Le-le does as a job, clearly embarrassed by her stand-up comedy. Kai continues on how alike she is to her father, given she too misses big meetings like him, and he even scathingly retorts that he meets Kuang-chi more than she does. Kai wants to spend more time with his wife and despite what made him fall in love with her in the first place, he wants her to change. Kai brings up their finances and how he has enough to support them both, gently encouraging her to be a stay-at-home mum. Le-le is not that sort of person though and she's uncomfortable bending to his whims, let alone fitting into a social circle she's alien to. The crux of the issue here is that Kai clearly doesn't think she's good enough and Le-le is not particularly happy that her husband has been born into wealth and never suffered from real hardship. The biggest problem Kai faced was not making partner, which is how they both bonded in the first place, at their lowest points. Kai is a very different person and doesn't understand why Le-le does her stand-up comedy. In the end, he admits he wants her to quit the gigs altogether, which is not something she's willing to do. When Le-le leaves the house, she winds up with Kuang-chi and the pair dance in the rain, just like old times. This helps, along with a couple of weeks off, for Le-le to collect her thoughts and get back on stage to vent. While she delivers her scathing set, she's unaware that Kai and his friends from work have shown up to support her. Up on stage, she rips into all the guys until she realizes that her husband is in the crowd and she slips back and tries to save the routine. It doesn't work, as Kai leaves the venue and decides to move to Singapore, managing the firm over there. Whatever they had is gone, and Kai is not willing to try and work harder to make things better, ending their whirlwind romance. As Le-le moves into a new studio for a fresh start, her father heads over and unfortunately he immediately questions her choices and offers for her to move back home, rather than supporting her choice. Kai doesn't go about any of this in a particularly tactile way and attempts to give her advice on marriage and divorce too. Back at Kuang-chi's place, Le-le winds up seeing a hospital bill for gastroenterology, which may or may not be linked to a bigger heath concern. The Episode Review This is a really great episode, encapsulating the highs and lows of relationships and how easy it can be to fall in love – and how the small erosion of falling out of love can eventually lead to a huge gap in your relationship. Forget You Not understands this perfectly and those scenes of Kai showing up at the comedy club and then deciding to wait outside is indicative of their love fading. You can already see it happening with his comments about her watermelon breath and strained smiles, but similarly the show doesn't go out of its way to see Le-le as completely blameless either. Le-le is also forgetful and doesn't really support Kai during his big dinner. It's still no excuse for him to lie about her career, and he gets a massive wake-up call when he shows up at the club and finds Le-le ripping into them all. It's a pretty uncomfortable scene but it also works well to show the different worlds these two have been born into. Sometimes opposites don't attract! As we approach the midway point of this one, the show is just starting to get interesting. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Forget You Not – Season 1 Episode 2 Recap & Review

The Most Difficult Person, Me Episode 2 of Forget You Not begins with Le-le reflecting on her past relationship with her dad. Unlike the other kids at school, she never saw Kuang-chi as a superhero, and flashbacks to her childhood seem to show that he's absent a lot of the time, arriving late to pick her up from school. We then cut to five years ago from our present timeline. Le-le works as a tour guide for seniors but she hates her job. She's also not married to Chang Kai just yet either, which helps to place this in the timeline. Her father tries to contact her but Le-le is flustered and bombarded with questions from the tourists so she ignores his texts. An altercation at the hotel the guests are due to stay a causes drama when Le-le hits out at a customer. The whole ordeal is blown completely out of proportion but it also causes her to be fired. On the way home, Le-le stumbles upon an open-mic night at a bar and winds up on stage talking about her firing and job experience. Funnily enough, this is also where she meets Chang Kai, a prospective businessman who's disappointed when he fails to make partner at his firm. He enjoys her set, which is surprisingly good for someone with no material. For a while anyway as Le-le soon gets emotional and winds up trauma-dumping, which sees Chang Kai take a shining to her. The club's producer, Mark, wants to bring her onboard and he believes she's got potential. This is also where she meets Chang-kai too and the pair get along well. Through all of this, her dad is at home worried sick as he hasn't heard from her all day. When Le-le heads home, she barely says two words to hr dad, much to his dismay. He makes up an excuse that he was watching TV and even attempts to make her a glass of milk but Le-le gives him the cold shoulder the whole time. Le-le is still friends with Su-fei and Chai-yun here and in fact, the latter is pregnant! Her concerns have changed slightly as she's worried that their 'Period Club' needs to be moved to a different venue. As time passes and Le-le winds up working at the FamilyMart to help pay the bills, Chai-yun goes into labour and both Su-fei and Le-le rush to help their friend. Now, Su-fei and Le-le haven't been speaking for a while given the incident at the hotel where Su-fei failed to stand up for her friend. As they race to be there for Chai-yun, both of them manage to patch up their differences. However, Le-le forgets her dad's birthday and rings him to wish the guy a belated happy birthday. They barely talk though and she's quite blunt on the phone, deciding they'll do something together soon. At the end of the episode, we cut back in time and see Le-le and Chang-kai meeting at the Mart again, giving us an indication of where episode 3 will go next. The Episode Review This episode works well to show more of the past and how Kuang-chi has been desperately trying to repair his relationship with Le-le, who has never seen her father as a superhero in her life. It's quite sad to see how their ties have been broken and the pair aren't on the same wavelength at all. It'sa contrast to Su-fei and Le-le though, who do finally manage to patch up their differences. Seeing the start of Chang-kai and Le-le's relationship is a nice touch though and I'm sure we'll see more of that across the rest of the season. For now though, understanding more of the past is helping to flesh out more of this relationship between Le-le and her dad. The overall theme about growing up and seeing your parents age is particularly resonant here too. Hopefully the episodes ahead will show more of this relationship.
