Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector, delivered the keynote address on behalf of Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit. In his remarks, Ambassador Khattabi underscored the enduring legacy of Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the former UN Secretary-General and prominent Egyptian diplomat, noting his contributions to international peace, multilateral diplomacy, and sustainable development. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, represented by the Director General of the House of Books and Documents, Barak Raad Alawi, participated in the scientific conference organized by the Arab-Chinese Digital Library in cooperation with the League of Arab States, held in the Chinese capital, Beijing. This participation comes as part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to strengthen international cultural cooperation and expand avenues of digital and intellectual exchange, in line with its strategic vision for building sustainable cultural partnerships. The conference witnessed wide participation from representatives of Arab countries and the People's Republic of China. Its sessions focused on discussing mechanisms for developing digital libraries and exchanging expertise between cultural institutions on both sides. In a speech delivered during the conference, Alawi emphasized that the Ministry is committed to fostering strong cultural relations and building knowledge bridges with peoples around the world. He underscored the importance of digital exchange and the provision of multilingual knowledge databases. He also noted that the House of Books and Documents is preparing to launch the Iraqi Digital Library project, which aims to make Iraq's cultural heritage accessible to the world using the latest digital technologies, in collaboration with specialized international institutions. For its part, the management of the Arab-Chinese Digital Library welcomed Iraq's participation and affirmed its readiness to provide technical and intellectual support for future collaborative projects, thereby enhancing the presence of Iraqi culture on the global digital stage. It is worth noting that the Arab-Chinese Digital Library is a joint initiative between the League of Arab States and the National Library of China, aiming to promote cultural understanding by providing diverse digital content in both Arabic and Chinese, reflecting the depth of historical and human ties between the two sides.

Arab Parliament for the Child represented by top official The Arab Parliament for the Child's delegation was led by the Secretary-General, Ayman Othman Al Barout, , who delivered a speech during the opening session. He conveyed greetings from the Parliament's headquarters in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, and praised Morocco's leadership, under His Majesty King Mohammed VI, for its commitment to advancing child rights amidst modern social and technological shifts. Children as active partners in development Al-Barout emphasised that today's children are more aware and engaged than ever, enabling them to be active partners in sustainable development rather than passive recipients. He called for meaningful inclusion of children in planning, implementation, and evaluation processes through genuine dialogue platforms that allow them to express their aspirations and challenges. Key issues on the conference agenda He also stressed the importance of the conference as a platform for addressing critical issues such as violence against children—particularly online—digital transformation, climate change, inclusive education, mental health, and future skills. These are all subjects previously tackled by the Arab Parliament for the Child as part of its vision to equip young people with 21st-century tools. Recognition of Morocco's strong contribution The Secretary-General praised the Moroccan delegation to the Arab Parliament for the Child, describing it as a 'founding and outstanding delegation' known for its active engagement in parliamentary sessions and media presence, and affirmed that it consistently represents Morocco with distinction. Broad participation and forward-looking discussions The conference attracted wide participation from government institutions, national and international experts, UN agencies, civil society organisations, and child parliamentarians from across Morocco. Discussions centred on shaping a realistic roadmap for child protection up to 2030 that considers environmental, social, and technological changes. Children's voices call for action In a poignant address, child parliamentarian Abeer Bouqataia called on decision-makers to turn children's rights from aspirations into tangible realities, stressing that children's voices must not only be heard but also integrated into policy and decision-making. Ongoing efforts to empower young Arab voices Coinciding with Morocco's National Day for Children's Rights, the conference continues with a series of multidisciplinary participatory workshops aimed at producing practical recommendations to enhance child protection and shape more inclusive and equitable legislation. Since its establishment in 2019 under the umbrella of the League of Arab States, the Arab Parliament for the Child has worked to empower Arab children in parliamentary engagement, enabling them to express their views and contribute to shaping the future with a strong sense of participation and social responsibility.

Iraq: Humanitarian commitment to supporting victims of Terrorism

INA - QAIRO Iraq affirmed its commitment to supporting victims of terrorism and strengthening international partnerships, on Tuesday. The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Cairo and the Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Qahtan Al-Janabi, headed the Iraqi delegation participating in the celebration of the International Day for Awareness of the Pain and Tragedies of Victims of Terrorism, held on May 27th, 2025, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, according to the Iraqi News Agency - INA reporter. Al-Janabi highlighted, in his speech at the celebration, "Iraq has made great efforts in confronting terrorism and its repercussions," noting "the great sacrifices made by Iraqis in defense of their national security and regional and international peace." "Iraq has not only achieved a battlefield victory over terrorist organizations but is also keen to continue supporting victims and those affected by it, in terms of providing financial assistance and hosting the next international conference to support victims of terrorism in 2026. This step reflects Iraq's humanitarian and moral commitment to this group that has suffered the scourge of violence and extremism," he added. The Ambassador reiterated "Iraq's firm position in supporting the efforts of the United Nations and its specialized agencies, as well as enhancing cooperation with friendly countries in the field of empowering victims of terrorism and reintegrating them into their societies as productive and active individuals." "Iraq made efforts to deepen partnerships with the United Nations offices concerned with counterterrorism. The establishment of the National Counterterrorism Center, which prioritizes providing comprehensive support to victims of terrorism, whether psychologically, socially, or legally," he pointed out. He concluded his remarks by emphasizing that "Iraq will continue to carry out its mission of combating terrorism in all its forms, defending human values, and achieving justice for its victims," thanking the League of Arab States "for organizing this important event, appreciating its efforts in shedding light on a noble humanitarian cause that requires continued regional and international cooperation."

The ceremony commenced with a speech by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in which he emphasised that celebrating Arab Sustainability Day reflects the importance of promoting sustainable development concepts and achieving a balance between its three dimensions: economic, social, and environmental-especially in light of the growing challenges and rapid changes across the Arab world in various fields. For her part, Ambassador Dr. Nada Al Ajezi, Director of the Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation Department - General Secretariat of the Arab League, stated, "Arab Sustainability Day aims to be a media engine that highlights the achievements of Arab countries and various stakeholders in implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. "It also seeks to create an Arab environment supportive of these efforts, providing a platform to exchange knowledge, expertise, best practices, and experiences to build a better future for the Arab region." Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad delivered a keynote speech at the event, stating,"In today's world, amid constant changes and challenges, we stand before one responsibility and one goal-to work earnestly together toward implementing the best environmental practices and achieving sustainable development goals in key vital sectors that serve people, empower them, and contribute to improving their quality of life.' Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad added, "The United Arab Emirates has made environmental sustainability a top priority in its future vision and a fundamental pillar within its national development strategies. This stems from its pivotal role in ensuring individual stability, empowering communities, and supporting economic growth and prosperity. The UAE continues to pursue its efforts in environmental and climate action at both regional and international levels." He also highlighted the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, emphasising that environmental sustainability is a key pillar of Fujairah's comprehensive and sustainable government vision, particularly in strategic sectors such as mining and mineral wealth, the oil and ship bunkering industry, and marine ecosystem conservation to protect fish resources. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad praised the Arab League's efforts in organising Arab Sustainability Day 2025, calling it the most significant Arab event spotlighting environmental sustainability issues and seeking solutions, while opening new horizons for strategic partnerships and pioneering projects at both the Arab and global levels to achieve sustainable development goals across the Arab world. During the event Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements between the Government of Fujairah and the League of Arab States, and honoured a number of distinguished individuals in the field of sustainability whose efforts have had a regional impact. The honouring ceremony was attended by Mohammed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament; Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Director of the Crown Prince of Fujairah's Office; Hamdan Karam Al Kaabi, Director of the Private Office of the Crown Prince of Fujairah; and Engineer Aseela Al Mualla, Director of the Fujairah Environment Authority.
