Big Brothers Big Sisters sells license plates to raise money for mentorship program
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Big Brothers Big Sisters is a mentoring organization that matches children from single-parent homes with adult mentors.
Mentors work with children one-on-one, focusing on education and life-skill building. They currently have 61 partnerships and 22 kids waiting to be matched.
Before they can create matches, volunteers have to go through background checks. Each one costs $1,250.
To help raise money, Big Brothers Big Sisters has license plates available. You can stop by your local tax collector's office to buy a license plate for $72.60.

For each license plate sold, $25 goes towards one-on-one mentoring programs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters area manager Leanne Gaudet says the program helps change kids' lives.
'Our kids, you know, we just see them do better in so many avenues once they have a mentor in their lives. We see their grades get better, we see their self-esteem improve, and we see them do better with as far as relationships with peers. And we see them just overall be happier kids that get to be kids,' Gaudet said.
The biggest need is for Big Brothers, they have a long list of boys that are in need of a mentor.
