Relax to the max on Royal Caribbean's latest cruise ship

A cruise is easily the most relaxing way to travel. Picture the scene: you, sitting in a sun-soaked swimming pool on deck, cocktail in hand, as the Mediterranean coastline slips past and another glorious day at sea comes to a laid-back close. Royal Caribbean's new ship Legend of the Seas, which is set to launch in the Mediterranean in summer 2026, will be decked out for relaxation, featuring seven separate swimming pools and a whopping 10 whirlpools scattered around the ship. So, which waterside spot will you choose first? Those travelling with children will want to make a beeline for the Water's Edge pool at the heart of the family-oriented Surfside neighbourhood. Here, parents can cool off while the kids play in the fountains and under the splash buckets of Splashaway Bay, while for the smallest sailors there's Baby Bay, a baby and toddler splash pad that's suitable even for children still in nappies. Even better, there are uninterrupted ocean views from across this area, which is perched atop the stern on deck seven, and you'll find kid-friendly snacks right alongside, at Surfside Bites. Alternatively, head a little higher, up to the Royal Bay pool on deck 15. This vast family-friendly oasis offers plenty of in-water loungers for a soak in the sunshine as well as two raised whirlpools overlooking all the action. Also on deck 15, you'll find the smaller and more laid-back Cove pool, featuring comfortable in-water chairs and an infinity edge for incredible ocean views – this is a cracking spot for enjoying a cocktail or two from The Lime and Coconut bar just a few steps away. Or what about a swim-up bar at sea? On deck 16 you'll find Swim & Tonic, where seats at the bar are submerged in the pool and a line-up of in-water loungers circles the edge. Swim up and order a cocktail, or perhaps take it over to the adjacent whirlpool, to relax in warmer, bubblier waters. You can also enjoy a drink in the pool at Cloud 17, its waters and cushioned loungers right beside another outpost of The Lime and Coconut bar, while suite guests can relax in the VIP-only The Grove Suite Sun Deck on decks 18 and 19. Here you'll find swinging poolside day beds and panoramic ocean views across the two decks, and though the whole family is welcome, access is only for those staying in a suite. If you prefer somewhere just for adults, head to the stern end of deck 15 and the Hideaway. Inspired by the beach clubs of Mallorca and Mykonos, this chilled-out spot is home to a resident DJ and there are classy, cushioned loungers dotted across its waters. Swim towards the edge of the ship here and look down – you'll be staring straight at the ocean, from a suspended infinity pool some eight stories up. And there are two whirlpools and a bar up here to boot. On Legend of the Seas, that chill-out mood is woven into the whole experience, and you'll quickly discover that your stateroom is an onboard haven of serenity; the perfect place to retreat to after a day of exploring. Many of the rooms offer stunning ocean views that will elevate your sense of wellbeing: from the Spacious Infinite Balcony rooms, where your living space becomes a sea-gazing balcony at the touch of a button, to the floor-to-ceiling vistas offered by the Panoramic Ocean View rooms, you can expect tranquility blended with the comfort of home. If you want to experience the ultimate zen state, upgrade to a Sunset Corner Suite, where the wrap-around balconies deliver an endless horizon of heavenly blue in all directions. Bliss. Experience the ultimate in onboard entertainment

When thinking about booking a cruise, it might well be the destinations you'll be visiting that first get you excited about the itinerary. Or perhaps it's the knowledge that, once you set sail, you can kick back and relax with every detail taken care of. One thing you might have overlooked, though, is what happens when evening falls. Think a day spent sailing on a Royal Caribbean cruise is over when the sun goes down? Not a chance. This is when the action will be heating up on board Royal Caribbean's hot new ship, Legend of the Seas – and you're invited to the party every single night. Your first stop might be the AquaTheater – something that really has to be seen to be believed. Flanked by two nine-metre-high diving platforms, this is the deepest pool at sea and features a vast waterfall that forms the backdrop to mesmerising shows featuring Olympic-standard divers flipping, leaping and twisting in an incredible performance of aerial acrobatics and jaw-dropping stunts. That's sure to take your eyes off the glorious ocean views that otherwise surround you when you take your seat in this unique theatre at sea. Each evening it's a different show here: you can expect the likes of the Fine Line tightrope walking show with its highliners and slacklines, and Aqua Action!, which combines futuristic technology with extreme athletics skills to blur the line between live show and action movie. Superhuman feats are guaranteed, and you're sure to be on the edge of your seat. Additionally, be sure to make time for Absolute Zero, the biggest ice arena Royal Caribbean has ever engineered and home to some of the most exciting shows at sea. Here you'll be wowed by professional ice dancers, spinning and whizzing across the rink to an immersive digital backdrop that transforms the arena into almost anything that can be imagined. Even better, you can strap on your own ice skates here by day and take your own turn around the ice, all for no additional charge. Prefer to hit the dance floor yourself? Royal Caribbean knows how to party – like it's 1999 – at the Totally Awesome 90s Street Party, led by a DJ, or like it's the 1970s at the 70s Disco Party, with its funky music and nostalgic vibe. And of course, there's the Greatest 80s Party Ever, taking to the promenade on your cruise and inviting you to don those legwarmers and get out those neon glow sticks for one incredible party. Alternatively, head to Lou's Jazz 'n Blues bar for soulful tunes inspired by the music scenes of New Orleans and New York, enjoyed at a classy table for two inside, perhaps, or as you stroll along the open-air boulevard of the ship's Central Park neighbourhood. Or get stuck into the battle at Duelling Pianos, where two talented pianists take your requests for toe-tapping favourites and try to outdo each other in both ivory-tinkling prowess and rib-tickling banter – you're sure to get drawn in and find yourself singing along. Dining in style One of the highlights of your time on board Legend of the Seas is sure to be the evening dining, when an enticing line-up of restaurants compete to tantalise your taste buds. You could take a seat at Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, an upscale restaurant that serves a menu of creative Asian-inspired dishes, all cooked by an expert chef before your eyes. Try the crispy chicken karaage, a tangy soya-ginger marinated chicken that's paired with a sweet Thai chilli sauce, or perhaps the teppanyaki lobster, before tucking in to a refreshing green-tea ice cream or the crispy sesame balls, which come with red bean and strawberry sauce. Alternatively, you could book a table for your tribe at Giovanni's Italian Kitchen, where a menu of Italian classics is served family-style. Order the tempting house focaccia, made with marinated artichokes, olives and pesto, then go for the meatballs in a tasty tomato sauce, or perhaps the grilled lamb chops, served in a merlot reduction. Whatever you choose, don't miss the tiramisu classico for dessert, a delicious blend of sponge fingers soaked in espresso and Kahlua, with mascarpone cream, cocoa powder and a chocolate cigar.

Deck-defying fun for thrill-seekers

If you're seeking a cruise that can keep the thrills coming, then look no further than Royal Caribbean's brand-new Icon Class cruise ship Legend of the Seas. Launching in 2026, this incredible ship will feature a jaw-dropping line-up of activities, including the largest waterpark at sea. This is Category 6, where you'll find six record-breaking slides, all included in your Royal Caribbean cruise. You might want to work your way up to braving the Frightening Bolt, a freefall waterslide that begins with the floor literally dropping away beneath your (crossed) feet and propels you down into a tunnel of lights to emerge back on deck with a whoop and a smile. It's the tallest of its kind at sea, and something you won't forget in a hurry. Just as memorable is the Pressure Drop, the first open freefall waterslide at sea, which sends you hurtling feet-first at speed down a vertical drop – this time open to the elements. All the better for hearing you scream. After taking on those two, make it personal with a ride against a friend on the Storm Chasers. Grab a mat and choose between one of the two slides, either fiery orange or ocean blue, then launch yourself headfirst and race to see who comes out the other end first. Finally, gather the whole tribe for a ride on the duo of family raft rides: Hurricane Hunter and Storm Surge. Both can take four thrill-seekers for a spin, with Storm Surge even flinging you out in a loop before returning you safely to deck. There's even more watery fun on offer at the FlowRider, also included in your sailing. This 12m long surf simulator recreates the ocean waves atop the deck of Legend of the Seas, challenging you to ride a massive 100,000 litres of water set to rush at you at 25 miles an hour, either on a boogie board, or standing upright on a surfboard. You'll need to be at least 132cm (4'4' feet) tall to tackle this one, and there's stadium seating for all the family to watch the action unfold. If you've got a head for heights, then you'll love the unique Legend of the Seas experience, Crown's Edge, a hybrid of high ropes course and above-ocean skywalk. First, you'll don a full body suit and hard hat, then strap into your harness for a series of challenges sure to get your heart racing. Step from platform to platform, crossing increasingly large gaps – and onto a platform set to fall away beneath your feet. Take a deep breath and wait for the drop, which sends you zip-lining back to deck in one thrilling swoop. The only question is: would you rather do this one in the daylight, picking out every detail of the oceanscape beneath your feet, or tackle it by night, dangling off the ship with total darkness below? The choice, as ever, is yours. Refuelling stops After all that activity, you'll be sure to have worked up an appetite, and Legend of the Seas has plenty onboard to satisfy it. If you want to get straight back to the fun on deck, then head to grab-and-go favourite Surfside Bites. Here you'll find something for everyone, with savoury dishes that run the gamut from popcorn chicken to burgers and hot dogs, and puddings that include confetti cookies and soft serve ice cream in a variety of flavours. Feeling hungrier? Take a seat at the Surfside Eatery, a family-friendly buffet restaurant that's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Here you'll find everything from pancakes topped with fresh fruit through to pasta, chicken nuggets and chips. Alternatively, head to Giovanni's, where the fixed price dinner menu features Italian classics such as hand-tossed pizzas cooked to order, giant meatballs, lasagne and chicken parmigiana. There's a more upscale vibe here but the dress code remains casual and all the family are welcome. So pull up a chair, order an Italian bottle of wine and kick back as you discuss all the day's adventures. Sailings availability is subject to change due to demand
