Man charged after using KrisFlyer air miles from accounts he bought illegally
The man was handed four charges under the Computer Misuse Act. - Photo illustration: Lianhe Zaobao file SINGAPORE: A man was charged in court on Thursday (May 29) after he allegedly bought KrisFlyer accounts illegally and used the accumulated air miles to make purchases. Rizaldy Primanta Putra, 28, was handed four charges under the Computer Misuse Act. Two of the charges were for the unauthorised access to computer material, and the other two were for the unauthorised modification of such material. According to a police statement, after allegedly accessing the KrisFlyer accounts, Putra, an Indonesian, flew to Singapore in June 2024 and purportedly used the miles from these accounts to buy a Samsung phone and phone cover from a retail shop in Changi Airport, as well as some pastries from a store in Bugis. The items amounted to more than $1,600. After Singapore Airlines lodged a police report on Oct 11, 2024, police officers established Putra's identity, but he had already left the country in September 2024. Putra returned to Singapore on Jan 11, 2025, and was detained by Airport Police Division officers at Changi Airport. In court on May 29, Putra indicated his intention to claim trial to the charges. While he told the court that he has a lawyer, District Judge Wong Li Tein told him that there was no lawyer in court to represent him. The judge adjourned the case and gave permission for Putra to make two local phone calls to contact his lawyer and to make arrangements for bail. He will be released from remand if he is able to arrange for a Singaporean bailor to furnish the $15,000 bail offered by the court. Putra will return to court on June 5 for a further mention of his case. For each charge of illegally accessing computer material, he can be jailed for up to two years, fined up to $5,000, or both. He can be jailed for up to three years, fined up to $10,000, or both, for each charge of illegally modifying computer material. In its statement, the police reminded the public to protect their online accounts by enabling multi-factor authentication or two-factor authentication. 'If you notice any suspicious or unauthorised transactions, please report the incident to your service provider or bank immediately,' the police added. - The Straits Times/ANN

HK actor Damian Lau and Singaporean star Zoe Tay reunite after 10 years
Singaporean actress Zoe Tay made a special trip to Hong Kong during her recent visit to China so she could meet her former co-star Damian Lau Chung Yan. The two had kept in touch since acting together in the Mediacorp blockbuster drama The Dream Makers II (2015 to 2016), but had not seen each other in 10 years. On May 20, Tay shared three photos taken with the veteran Hong Kong actor on social media. 'Brother Chung is still as spirited after 10 years,' the 'Ah Jie' (Big Sister) of Singapore television wrote. 'I'm really happy to see you again and we have so much to chat about. Thank you for sharing your philosophy of life.' Lau, who played Emperor Kangxi in the Chinese palace drama Scarlet Heart (2011), was pictured smiling and looked energetic. The 75-year-old was rumoured to be in ill health in recent years. There were claims of a stroke, which he refuted, after the media spotted him using a walking aid in 2020. He announced his retirement after performing in a musical in 2024 and has since rarely appeared in public. Tay, 57, told Lianhe Zaobao on May 21 that she met Lau at a restaurant in Hong Kong and they chatted for more than two hours. 'He often asked me when I would go to Hong Kong,' Tay told the Chinese-language daily. 'I was travelling in Guangzhou, Foshan and Zhongshan recently, so I arranged a trip to Hong Kong.' Lau launched his first book – a not-for-sale photography series, Damian's Rendezvous – earlier in 2025. He sent a copy to Tay in Singapore, as he thought there was no chance of them meeting up in the near future. Tay, who played the matriarch Liu Xiuniang in Mediacorp's blockbuster drama Emerald Hill (2025), said Lau is preparing for his second book, and his life after retirement is very fulfilling. 'Brother Chung is in good shape and he is living very happily,' she told Zaobao. 'He told me that this period is the best time of his life.' With Lau having retired, the chances of Tay and Lau acting together again are slim. 'It was a great honour to work with him in The Dream Makers II,' Tay said. 'He is a very experienced actor and I really learnt a lot from him.' – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

'I travelled across the ocean to meet you': Zoe Tay reunites with Hong Kong veteran actor Damian Lau after a decade, Entertainment News
Veteran local actress Zoe Tay met veteran Hong Kong actor Damian Lau during her recent visit to China, a decade after they last worked together in local drama The Dream Makers II (2015). In an Instagram post on last Tuesday (May 20), the 57-year-old actress shared three photos she had taken with him, writing: "I travelled across the ocean to meet you. After 10 years, Damian is still as energetic as ever. "I am so happy to see you again. We talked about so many topics. Thank you for sharing your philosophy of life." Damian, 75, who is known for playing roles including Emperor Kangxi in Chinese drama Scarlet Heart (2011), was rumoured to have suffered a stroke and in ill health in recent years after he was seen using a walking stick in 2020. He told the media last year, while promoting a musical he starred in, that he saw "no need to refute or clarify these unsubstantiated reports" and announced his retirement from the entertainment industry in April after the final show. Zoe told Lianhe Zaobao in a report published yesterday (May 23) that she had made a trip to Hong Kong specially to visit Damian during her vacation in China this time round. She shared that while they hadn't seen each other for a decade, they maintained contact over the years. "Damian is in good shape and is living happily. He told me that this is the best time of his life. He is very healthy and lives a carefree life," she said, adding that they chatted at a restaurant for more than two hours on topics about life, philosophy of life and acting. Zoe also shared that Damian had launched a not-for-sale photograph book Damian's Rendezvous earlier this year — his first book — and sent a copy to Singapore for her as he thought they wouldn't have a chance to meet again in the future. As Damian had already retired from showbusiness, the chances of them performing together are slim. Zoe said: "Of course I would like to work with him again, but he is not acting anymore. I am very honoured to be able to perform together with him in The Dream Makers II. He is a very experienced actor, and I really learnt a lot from him." Singapore actress Eleanor Lee accused online of insulting China, allegedly dropped from Chinese show
Home-grown actress Eleanor Lee has found herself in the middle of an online storm, with rumours accusing her of making derogatory comments about people in China. It is also claimed that the 25-year-old China-based star and daughter of local TV host Quan Yifeng has been removed from the cast list of an upcoming Chinese period drama, The Journey Of Legend, as a result. Lee's alleged remarks have also led to the delay of the airing of the show in early May, according to online speculation. Based on a novel by Malaysia-born author Woon Swee Oan, The Journey Of Legend also stars Chinese actor Cheng Yi and Chinese actress Gulnazar Bextiyar. Lee plays one of the main characters, Tang Fang. The show wrapped up filming in October 2024. The furore started when an anonymous netizen claiming to be Lee's former assistant recently released a poor-quality 31-second audio recording on Chinese social media platform Weibo. In the recording, which features a lot of background noise, a woman is heard saying she is "doing this not for fame, but for money" and that "most people in China are idiots". It is not confirmed if it is Lee's voice in the clip. A spokesperson for the Chinese agency which manages Lee told The Straits Times on May 9: "We are looking into the matter and will provide an update over the next two days." Lee's name is still listed on one of the pinned posts dated Oct 25, 2024, on The Journey Of Legend's Weibo account. Her name is missing on another pinned post dated April 9, but her scenes can still be seen in the accompanying video. According to Chinese-language daily Lianhe Zaobao, The Journey Of Legend has not announced its official premiere date, and that the early May release was only a rumour.
