Behind Blusher's cover of Kesha's 'Your Love Is My Drug' for Like A Version'

When it came to their first crack at Like A Version, pop trio Blusher settled on the artist pretty much immediately. "Kesha is kind of the foundation of our band," says Blusher's Jade. "We came together because of a shared love of Kesha deep cuts, so it just felt right." "There's something about the shameless love of pop music that Kesha has really just always been an advocate for. It's kind of our guiding light." The trio landed on her 2010 hit 'Your Love Is My Drug', the opening track from Kesha's debut album Animal, which gets the party started with hard 808s, electroclash beats and and a giant, melodyne'd out chorus. For the trio — consisting of Miranda Ward, Jade Ingvarson-Favretto and Lauren Coutts — it's simply perfect pop. "The songwriting is so smart to be so simple, to be so catchy," says Miranda, adding that she was obsessed when it first came out. "I just remember not being able to stop listening to be able listening to her album. I was just like, 'What are these sounds?' The synth sounds are so bloopy. She's just crazy, it's amazing." Since forming in 2021, Blusher has become beloved by Australia's pop aficionados for their glittery tracks, which mix crystalline synths with high-octane energy and gorgeous, dreamy harmonies. Fond of a bratty moment (see: 'MARATHON' from new EP RACER) as well as hardcore crushing anthems (see: 'LAST MAN STANDING'), Kesha's track sits somewhere in the middle — and the trio brought that energy to the Like A Version studios, with carefully choreographed moves and flair. The trio say they were inspired by two great Like A Versions: the sheer performing power within Confidence Man's turbo take on DJ Sammy's 'HEAVEN', and CVRCHES's ability to make Arctic Monkeys' 'Do I Wanna Know?' completely their own. Between the dance moves and the band swapping out Kesha's hard-hitting beats for Blusher's trademark vocal loops, we'd say they succeeded. And there's a good chance you'll be hearing it at the next Blusher gig, too. "We had so much fun playing that," says Miranda. "We'll absolutely have to put it in the setlist. I was like 'no, it can't be over!' Posted 27m ago 27 minutes ago Thu 7 Aug 2025 at 10:30pm

Blusher cover Kesha 'Your Love Is My Drug' for Like A Version

Australian pop trio Blusher has put their spin on a Kesha classic for their very first Like A Version, transforming 'Your Love Is My Drug' into a gorgeous, glittery dream while still staying true to the OG's party vibe. It was a no-brainer for the trio (consisting of Miranda Ward, Jade Ingvarson-Favretto and Lauren Coutts), given that they first bonded over a love of Kesha before forming Blusher in 2021. "There's something about the shameless love of pop music that Kesha has really just always been an advocate for," says Jade. "It's kind of our guiding light." You can hear that love come through on RACER , the band's just-released second EP packed with sugary, feelings-first electronica. Here, they turn Kesha's rave-ready pop into something a touch softer, replacing acetone bleeps and bloops with their own trademark glistening vocal loops in place of synths. We start off slow with a gorgeous three-way harmony straight out of dream-pop heaven, but the song turns up the ante with choreographed dance moves and live drums that bring the drama. While each member has their moment in the sun, we gotta shout out Lauren's take on Kesha's iconic rap-bridge. Oh, and Jade threw in a couple of lines of ABBA's 'SOS' at the track's end, because why not? Both immensely nostalgic and refreshing, Blusher's take on 'Your Love Is My Drug' might just become your new obsession. Check out more from their time in the Like A Version studios below. Skegss covers Sheryl Crow's 'If It Makes You Happy' for Like A Version

If it makes you happy (and it will), Skegss has popped into the Like A Version studio to cover a Sheryl Crow classic. Fresh off a temperature-rising winter tour across Aus, the Byron Bay rockers have turned their hand to 'If It Makes You Happy', the American singer's country-twanged 1996 hit about feeling blue despite her debut album's success. "I like her lyrics, she always seems to have fun, comical lyrics," says Skegss frontman Ben Reed. "'Cos she's got that country-esque storytelling, she paints a good picture, but has a lot of fun with it… She's a real clever lyricist." How did the group land on the track? It wasn't easy, with the boys saying they were struggling to come up with a solid Like A Version. It makes sense given the band's first crack in 2019 with Pixies' 'Here Comes Your Man' remains a hit, with Ben saying they're still asked about the track six years on. After throwing around a few ideas, Ben remembered his sisters blasting 'If It Makes You Happy' on repeat back in the early 2000s. First jam, it all clicked, with the band's fuzzy surf rock take adding a new dimension to the pop classic. Skegss might just have another fan favourite on their hands. Thornhill cover Lady Gaga's 'Paparazzi' for Like A Version

Ever wanted to hear Lady Gaga's 'Paparazzi' with a face-melting breakdown? Thornhill has you covered. The Naarm/Melbourne band's big return to the Like A Version studio sees them taking the 2008 pop anthem deep into the pit, delivering a truly roaring take. "It was interesting to figure out where we wanted it to have a heavy moment," vocalist Jacob Charlton said. "But I think that came pretty naturally with some of the bridge work." Instead of making directly flipping the pop song into an "entirely heavy" cover, Thornhill let those immense breakdown riffs come organically. The end result is something we're ready to throw hands to in the pit. Check out more from Thornhill's return to the Like A Version studio below.
