The Hairy Bikers star left his legion of loyal fans bereft when he died, aged 66, two years after his cancer diagnosis. As Liliana, 57, continues to grieve for the much-loved star, she told fans that the BBC is preparing to rerun the last ever episodes of the Hairy Bikers, which Dave presented with best friend, Si King. The series, titled The Hairy Bikers Go West, was filmed in 2023 and aired in February 2024, the same month of Dave's death. Telling Dave's fans how unwell he was in the programme, but mustered up a "superhuman" effort to finish filming, Liliana left a poignant post on her Facebook account, saying: "Heads up... BBC have been in touch to say they have planned in a repeat run of the 7-epsiode series 'The Hairy Bikers Go West' from Tuesday, July 15 July at 7pm. "This is Dave's last series, filmed while he was in treatment... the one I couldn't bring myself to watch. For many reasons, this series is heartbreaking for me to watch, as I know how unwell he was and what a superhuman effort he made to finish the series. But also, I'll never forget the look on his face once filming was done. He knew it would be his last... my brave man!" Responding to her heartfelt post, many of Dave's fans told Liliana how much they missed him, as one replied: "Oh Liliana, it must be difficult for you to watch. I watched it all and loved it, but found it very moving to see how emotional the boys were throughout!' A second commented: "Always loved and followed them from the start and can't quite believe Dave has left us! He is truly missed by all of us, but especially you and Simon. But we have lovely memories of him and he will never be forgotten." Meanwhile, a third shared: "I watched the series a couple of times with my dad and cried my way through the last few episodes. A tremendous testament to Dave's courage, determination and his huge personality." The poignant series is filmed over seven episodes and sees Dave and Si travel along the west coast of country on an emotional and nostalgic journey. Last month, Liliana, who met Dave in a hotel when he was filming The Hairy Bikers before they married in 2011, opened up about her grief as a guest on the Lorraine show. Talking to stand-in host, Ranvir Singh, she said: "It's an enormous thing to hear, that you have cancer, when you hear that, you don't fully understand the consequences of the treatment or the journey that is coming after that word. "The stepson hospital corridors, the shattered dreams, the plans that you had for the future that are not going to be there anymore. The 'What should I do? Should I do this? Should I do that... "And then afterwards, you're beating yourself up for thinking 'I should have, I could have, I would have'..."

Dave Myers' 'hidden suffering' as he said goodbye to Hairy Bikers before death
Hairy Biker Dave Myers died last year following a battle with cancer; however, it's recently come to light that he "suffered in secret" as he prepared to say goodbye to the Hairy Bikers one last time It's hard to believe it's been over a year since the world said goodbye to one half of the Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers. The TV chef, who also gained fame following his stint on Strictly Come Dancing, died following a courageous battle with cancer in February 2024. However, even though he was very open about his cancer journey, it's recently been revealed he was suffering with something in "secret". According to his wife, Liliana Myers, there was a lot of "pain" people didn't get to see, esepcially when it came to Dave saying his final farewell to the Hairy Bikers, and she recently detailed some of it in a heartbreaking Facebook post. Liliana wrote: "Heads up… BBC have been in touch to say they have planned in a repeat run of the 7-epsiode series 'The Hairy Bikers Go West' from Tuesday, July 15 July at 7pm. This is Dave's last series, filmed while he was in treatment… the one I couldn't bring my self to watch. "I talk about this in my book 'Dave & Me', about the effort, the pain, the suffering he was going through while working on this series…but also about his joy of doing what he loved one more time. "For many reasons this series is heartbreaking for me to watch, as I know how unwell he was and what a superhuman effort he made to finish the series. But also, I'll never forget the look on his face once filming was done. He knew it would be his last…my brave man!" Since Liliana shared the post, it has been liked thousands of times and dozens of people offered words of support. People admitted they thought Dave was a "lovely man." One touching tribute read: "I watched the series a couple of times with my dad and cried my way through the last few episodes. A tremendous testament to Dave's courage, determination and his huge personality. "Not forgetting Si, for his deep friendship and love for Dave, knowing that this would be their last blast together. It must have been heartbreaking for the both of them, in a number of different ways. For those two about to rock on together, we salute you." Another wrote: "I completely understand why you can't bring yourself to watch it. I can say to you that it is brilliant and it captures the strength of the huge bond between Si and Dave. "Dave's fans are so glad he did it. I think that it was his way of saying goodbye, but also to share the great camaraderie he had with his best mate just one more time. "You can see in their faces the pain they are both going through knowing that things will change permanently and soon. It's a masterpiece at the end of the Hairy Bikers reign. Your Dave was a life force and a very brave one too." A third also replied: "Oh Liliana, it must be difficult for you to watch. I watched it all and loved it, but found it very moving to see how emotional the boys were throughout! "Always loved and followed them from the start and can't quite believe Dave has left us! He is truly missed by all of us, but especially you and Simon. But we have lovely memories of him and he will never be forgotten." Dave met his future wife in Romania years ago while filming The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook. He was captivated by the charming hotel worker who would later become his partner. Their connection endured despite the miles separating them, and her trip to the UK saw their friendship blossom into love. His partner warmly reminisced: "I was blown away by one tiny little thing. "He picked me up from the airport. It was about midnight and he opened the fridge and he said, 'What do you want me to cook for you?' "I'd never ever in my life had a man cook for me. So that was the very first thing that just hit me. I was visiting as a friend, but from that moment on my heart just melted." Sadly, Myers passed away at the age of 66, leaving behind a legacy of charm and culinary adventure. Since then, Liliana has expressed the deep sense of loss she feels, receiving an outpouring of support from the public who have shared their condolences online. Liliana has also written a book about Dave, and life without him, called Dave & Me. It is available to order now.

Chinese lychee, a sweet story in Mexico
A vendor displays a lychee for sale at a market stall in Mexico City on June 24, 2025. – Xinhua photo MEXICO CITY (July 4): While China is going deep into summer, Mexico enters the rainy season of the year. In breaks of showery days, crowds hit the streets for sunshine and a sweet fruit from China – lychee. For many visitors to Mexico, lychee is something they don't expect to see here. Meanwhile, the sweet, fleshy fruit has become a popular item on Mexican households' seasonal grocery lists. Few know that lychee trees have grown in Mexico for over a century. In the late 19th century, hundreds of Chinese workers migrated to Mexico, and many settled in Sinaloa. Local legend says the first of the lychee trees the migrants cultivated with seeds taken from their homeland was gifted to Sinaloa's governor. In an evolution journey starting from the Chinese lychee seeds, commercial farming didn't take off until the 1970s in Mexico. After that, the seasonal fruit took no long time to find its way into the daily life of Mexicans. Liliana, a 37-year-old Mexican engineer, said: 'They've always been a special treat in our home' every year since her childhood. The lychee plantation industry in Mexico now spans 13 states, including Veracruz, Puebla and Oaxaca. In 2023, official data showed Mexico produced more than 26,000 tons of lychee fruits, largely going for the North American market. On US grocery platforms, lychee fruits command a premium price but continue to gain popularity. 'Not as sweet as last year's, but still the best I can find in the US market,' one online reviewer wrote. 'The season is short, just a few weeks. Worth savoring while it lasts.' The Mexican story of the lychee mirrors the story of migration – of roots transplanted; of tastes carried across oceans. In markets from Los Angeles to Merida, the lychee is both about exotic appeal and homesick comfort. 'I was born and raised in Guangzhou, capital of China's Guangdong Province,' said Zhang Tieliu from the Chinese American Business Association. 'I later moved across the ocean for work. The US doesn't grow lychees, but for us Chinese living in North America, that taste of home is something we truly miss.' And the modern lychee story overseas involves more. Lychees are pictured in Mexico City on June 24, 2025. – Xinhua photo 'Over the years, I dreamed of bringing this jewel of South China's fruits to the American market,' Zhang said. 'Thanks to breakthroughs in preservation and logistics by Chinese companies and universities, we've finally made that dream a reality – Guangdong lychees now carry their fragrance all the way to North America.' Cold-chain technology is accelerating the lychee's global reach. Pre-cooling and freshness-locking methods have helped overcome previous barriers in its trade, facilitating its rise in sales in recent years in the international fresh fruit market. From the plantations of Maoming City, Guangdong Province, lychee fruits can now reach destinations in the Middle East and Europe within three days. Even today, lychees in Mexican supermarkets aren't quite what a southern Chinese native remembers. They vary in size, sweetness and fleshiness. Yet spotting them on shelves is still a moment of recognition, a thread between homes, while the fruit continues to bear sweetness for generations to come. And so, the lychee continues to bloom far from its native soil, as a living bridge between continents, past and present. In Latin America, lychee is seen as a luxury fruit outside Mexico. In Panama, it is called 'chirimoya china' to indicate its origin and exotic flavor. Brazil has thousands of hectares of lychee orchards and is still expanding its cultivation area. – Xinhua China lychee mexico Xinhua

This Michelin-Starred Restaurant Is Making a Big Move to the Mission
Two-Michelin-starred Nob Hill restaurant Sons and Daughters is moving to the Mission District. The restaurant will take over the former Osito location on the corner of 18th and Florida streets. The lease on the Bush Street location expires in spring 2026, so the restaurant will decamp the neighborhood. The new Mission location is huge, technically two distinct spaces composed of a bar — previously Liliana and Bar Agricole — and a dining area with an open kitchen. 'We've been at our max for a long time,' Sons and Daughters owner Teague Moriarty says. 'The [new] space is beautiful, it's gonna allow us to have more staff, and continue to push Sons and Daughters to the next level.' The hope is to be operating at the Mission space before the new year. When this new location is ready, including updated furniture and design, Sons and Daughters will close in Nob Hill for good. They want to utilize that larger two-part space with the dining room to create a 'grander experience,' per Moriarty. The team hopes to find a hungry restaurateur to take over the original space, since that existing restaurant will be functional and somewhat turn-key. Sons and Daughters is one of the city's most upscale New Nordic-style restaurants. Moriarty brought current executive chef Harrison Cheney onboard in 2022 and the restaurant has cleaned up on the awards side of the industry since, though the business debuted in 2010. Cheney was named the Michelin Guide's 2023 Young Chef Award winner. He then took the restaurant's one Michelin star and doubled it in 2024. It's beloved for lavish seasonal tasting menus where Osetra caviar comes paired with Swedish bread hönökaka. The restaurant's after-dinner coffee service, with beans from the Outer Sunset's Andytown Coffee, is a stunner. The restaurant's reputation also continues to expand as alums move onto their own projects: Kiln chef John Wesley and co-owner Julianna Yang both worked at Sons and Daughters. Chef Seth Stowaway closed the one-Michelin-starred Osito on Mother's Day 2025, telling the San Francisco Standard the numbers just weren't adding up. (Meanwhile, Osito is in the midst of a farewell dinner series at North Bay's Black Mountain Ranch for June.) Stowaway told the Standard the $15,000 monthly rent was non-negotiable with the landlord. That'd be the Madelon, the same complex housing Bar Gemini and a trio of bakeries fittingly dubbed Bakery Row. Sons and Daughters, which celebrated its 15th year in business in June, will join newcomer Side A as one of the sexy new entrants in that chunk of the neighborhood.
