Now, a gangster film without stunt or action sequences!
Chennai: A gangster film that is silently getting made in Tamil cinema has now caught the attention of film buffs and cinephiles. The reason? This gangster film, sources say, does not have any action or stunt sequences in it! Director Prashanth Raman's upcoming gangster film 'Dawood', featuring actor Linga in the lead, will not have any action sequences or stunts like in other gangster films. Says director Prashanth Raman, "Yes, this is a gangster film that does not have the usual kind of chasing and action sequences. I have crafted this film as a family package by blending situations set on a lighter vein. This will be a gangster film that is sure to give audiences a new experience. It is certain to appeal to contemporary youth." Sources say that the film is in its final stages of production and that the makers are looking to release the film in theatres soon. Bankrolled by S. Uma Maheshwari under the banner TURM Production, the film will feature actor Linga, who played pivotal roles in films like 'Parole', 'Udanpal', 'Penguinn' and 'Sethupathi', in the lead. Sara Achaar will make her debut as the lead actress through this film. Dileep, the younger brother of director A R Murugadoss who is best known for his fantastic performances in films like Vathikuchi and Kaala, has played pivotal role in this film. Apart from these actors, Radharavi, Sai Deena, Vaiyapuri, Sarath Ravi, Arjay, Abhishek, Anand Nag, Jayakumar, Cheranraj and Saravanan Seelan too have played important roles in the film. Sarath Vayapathy and Bronden Sushanth have handled the cinematography for this film, which has music by Rakesh Ambikapathy. Lyrics for the songs have been penned by Arun Bharathi. R. K. Srinath has taken care of the film's editing and Jai Murugan has handled its art direction. Srikrish has choreographed the dance sequences in the film. The story, screenplay, and dialogues have all been written and directed by director Prashanth Raman.

Plea to Koraput collector on land rights for tribals
1 2 Bhubaneswar: Representatives from Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon blocks submitted a memorandum to the Koraput district collector on Saturday, highlighting issues of land rights and alleged police delegation, comprising 33 signatories, including several sarpanchs, emphasised that despite these blocks falling under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution with over 80% ST and SC population, most families remain landless due to historical dispossession by non-tribal to the 2011 Socio-Economic and Caste Census, both blocks are classified as severely "deprived". Since 2005, residents have been demanding "freedom from bondage, alcohol, and landlessness", but claim their voices were suppressed through false cases and arrests."The police implicated hundreds of our people in fabricated cases of sedition and terrorism. Central census will benefit Veerashaiva Lingayat Community: Cong MLA
Davanagere : Akhil Bharat Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha president and Congress MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa said the central govt's caste census will be beneficial for the Veerashaiva Lingayat community . Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Addressing a felicitation programme organised by the district unit of the Akhil Bharat Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha at SSM Hall in BIET College on Saturday, he criticised his own govt. He said the state govt is attempting to portray the Veerashaiva Lingayat community as a minority. "The census conducted by the central govt will help reveal our true numbers," he said. He further said there are over two crore Veerashaiva Lingayats in the state, but the state govt's caste census report claims the population is only 65 lakh. "The state govt is trying to show we are fewer in number to take away the govt benefits we receive. The Mahasabha will not allow this. We will bring all Veerashaiva Lingayats in the state together to demonstrate unity," Shamanur clarified. The senior Congress legislator said the central govt has announced it will conduct a caste census along with the population census. "It is said the central census will take another six months to a year. Meanwhile, the state govt seems to be in a hurry to implement the caste census report. The Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha and leaders of the Vokkaliga community have already held meetings and reached a consensus, and all leaders have agreed to the decisions made in the meeting," he added. Forest minister and national general secretary of the Mahasabha, Eshwar Khandre, said there is an ongoing unnecessary debate about Veerashaiva and Lingayat being different. "The Mahasabha has consistently maintained that Veerashaiva and Lingayat are not separate; they are the same. The community should remember that all who perform Linga worship are Lingayats," he said.

Vachana Mantapa construction to begin shortly in Kalaburagi: Minister
Government of Karnataka will construct a 'Vachana Mantapa' in Kalaburagi to spread the universal message of 12th century social reformer Basavanna and the vachana movement, Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil announced during the Basava Jayanti celebrations in Kalaburagi on April 30. He made the announcement after paying floral tribute to the equestrian statue of Basaveshwara at Jagat Circle in Kalaburagi. The event was organised jointly by the district administration, Kalaburagi City Corporation, Department of Kannada and Culture, and the Basava Jayanti Celebration Committee. 'The project was included in the 2024–25 State budget. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed us to commence construction work immediately. The district administration is preparing the blueprint,' he said. Highlighting the lifelong efforts of Basavanna and other sharanas of the 12th century to build a casteless and equitable society, the Minister said that the essence of the Sharana movement, rooted in compassion and equality for all beings and the transformative power of vachanas, should be passed on to future generations. 'We must preserve and nurture the practice of Ishta Linga worship and the cultural heritage of Basava philosophy,' he said. Speaking on the inclusivity of Basava's ideology, Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission Vice-Chairperson B.R. Patil remarked that even those who do not wear the Ishta Linga can be followers of Basavanna. 'Wearing the Linga is not a prerequisite for being Basavanna's follower. Even those who do not wear it can follow his teachings. Our Lingayat identity stemmed from a time when people from marginalised communities adopted the linga as a symbol of spiritual equality,' he said. Commending the Dalit Sangharsha Samit for its efforts to promote Buddha-Basava-Ambedkar philosophy across Karnataka, he emphasised the importance of upholding ideas over idolising individuals. 'Basavanna's social revolution stemmed from embracing inter-caste marriage and the dignity of labour. We must glorify ideas, not individuals — be it Basavanna or Ambedkar. If we glorify only individuals, the ideas will fade,' he cautioned. MLA and Jayanti Committee Chairperson M.Y. Patil called for embracing the Kayaka Sharanas who have drifted away, reiterating Basavanna's revolutionary role in advocating inter-caste harmony and establishing an egalitarian society. He also noted that Basava Jayanti had evolved from mere processions to ideologically rich celebrations since the rediscovery of vachana literature. Retired professor Dr. Durgadas, delivering a lecture, identified Kalyana Karnataka as Basavanna's land of action, praising the vachanas for their accessibility and spiritual depth. He portrayed Basavanna as a humanitarian who transcended orthodoxy and championed rational thought from a young age. Recognition for outstanding individuals Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner B. Fouzya Taranum was felicitated for winning the Election Commission of India's award for best district election officer while the family of Mohan Kumar from Dora Jambga village was honoured as he secured the 982nd rank in the UPSC exams. Sarangadhara Deshikendra Mahaswamiji of Sarangamath hoisted the Shatsthala flag, and blessed the event and the gathering. MLA Allamaprabhu Patil presided over the event. MLCs B.G. Patil, Tippannappa Kamakanoor and Shashil G. Namoshi, City Police Commissioner S.D. Sharannappa, Superintendent of Police Addoor Srinivasalu and leaders from Lingayat community were among the participants.
