At Times Mobility Utsav, Auto enthusiasts dive into diverse vehicle experiences
Hubballi: Times Mobility Utsav, Hubballi's biggest auto expo, organised by TOI in Hubballi, attracted a huge crowd on Sunday. Visitors, accompanied by their friends and family members, enquired about vehicles of their choice. The number of visitors was five times more than Saturday's crowd. Despite mild rain in the afternoon, automobile enthusiasts attended the event. Lingaraj Dharwad, an insurance adviser, said that it was a unique opportunity to understand vehicles manufactured by 15 companies. "If we were supposed to visit all these companies, it would take a month or more. We wish TOI organises more such expos in the coming days. There is a need for a dedicated expo for electric segment vehicles," he said. Bharat Kulgod, an employee of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), shared that many people downloaded the BIS Care App to check the authenticity of products with the ISI mark, by using 'Verify Licence Details'. "Most visitors were unaware that there is an app by the Union govt to check the integrity of products they need. Hence, this expo turned into a platform to educate commoners," he asserted. Prajwal Kurli, marketing-in-charge at Toyota, shared that there was much enquiry about the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which has multiple fuel options of petrol, CNG, and hybrid. Akshaya Motors, Deutsche Motoren, Volvo, and Martial Motors were luxury partners, while Isuzu, Nexa, Royal Enfield, Hyundai, Shodha Toyota, Ather, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Mahindra were platinum partners. Postal export centres allow only cash payments despite digital push
Hubballi: Despite the nationwide push for digital payments, post offices in Hubballi-Dharwad are yet to adopt the change. Citizens looking to send parcels through Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra are being asked to pay in cash, as digital payment options are unavailable. This includes the head post office and several sub-offices. Officials said they raised the matter with higher authorities, but for now, customers must rely solely on cash. However, sources in the postal department revealed that non-cash transactions are not incorporated in any post office of the state. Sharing his experience with TOI, Lingaraj Dharwad, a social activist in Hubballi, said that he went to the head post office to post some material to his son living in Italy. "After packing and weighing, I had to pay Rs 13,000. I intended to pay using UPI, but I was told I needed to pay only by cash. When I enquired about it with higher officials there, they did not answer properly. How can they expect us to carry cash of such a big amount?" he questioned. Consumers worry about domestic LPG weight after gas refilling scam comes to light
Dharwad: During a recent raid conducted by Food and Civil Supplies officials in Dharwad taluk, the refilling of commercial cylinders using domestic LPG cylinders came to light. After which, many locals are expressing doubt over domestic cylinders. They suspect that their cylinders are underweight and are helpless to weigh the cylinders at home. The net weight of domestic cylinders is 14.2 kg, but gas agency staff are reportedly diverting the gas to commercial activist Lingaraj Dharwad suspected that he is often getting underweight LPG cylinders. "When we ask to weigh the cylinder, they insist we come and collect the cylinders from their office itself. If we argue, the staff start delaying delivery, or drop the cylinders at the gate itself. Many times, the delivery staff demand extra tips to deliver the cylinders at our doorstep," he Goudar, a homemaker in Vidyanagar, said that sometimes she gets gas for 45 days and sometimes it empties in just 30 days. "We are a family of four, and the usage is the same most of the time. Since we don't have a weighing machine at home, we don't question the weight of cylinders. Though all cylinders are checked twice at the plant itself, PDI at the receivers' end is a must to ensure safety and weight.
