Don't worry — we've got you covered. Whether you need just a gentle nudge or the full set of answers, this guide will walk you through the hints, clues, and solutions for the Sunday, July 20th edition of The New York Times's Connections. Read on for help grouping those tricky words and completing today's challenge without spoilers — unless you want them! New York Times Connections Guide Sunday July 20th It's Sunday, July 20th and we have a somewhat tricky Connections to solve this fine summer day. It also looks like it might rain, and while the rest of the country seems to be getting more than enough of that, here in the high mountain desert we could really use some. The North Grand Canyon Lodge burned down in a wildfire recently, and I'd really like to avoid any big ones closer to home. Feel free to send rain to Arizona! In any case, as I said this is a trickier Connections than I've seen in a bit, though maybe it's just me. Read on for some extra clues and the answers to today's puzzle! Check out today's Wordle guide here. Get help with today's Strands guide here. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here. The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there. There is only one set of right answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries so you can't just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together. You pick the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows you how you were connected. If you're close, it will tell you that you're one away. Again, four mistakes you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either come here, or delete your web cookies and try again. If you want to play more puzzles, you can get an NYT Games subscription to access the full archives of all past puzzles. These are the hints that are laid out on the puzzle board itself, but after that, we will get into spoiler territory with some hints and eventually the answers. First, here are today's Connections words: What Are Today's Connections Groups? Alright, the full spoilers follow here as we get into what the groups are today: What Are Today's Connections Answers? The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are: Today's Connections What made this Connections tricky were the purple words. Specifically, BUZZ and LOAN. BUZZ sounds like BOP and BOUNCE and GROOVE and SWAY. It sounds more like a dance word. It doesn't sound like something you'd group with LOAN. The only reason I got purple before yellow today was because I'd basically already grouped the yellow words in my head and wanted to try the remaining four out to see if they stuck. I didn't even realize they were all things like buzzword, crossword, loanword and password. Very tricky. It might also be telling that I guessed the drinking and smoking words first, though my drinking and smoking days are well behind me. My crossword days are in full bloom. My dancing days? Well, I was never one to BOP or BOUNCE or GROOVE or SWAY but I do like playing guitar and piano! Using science to save lives is great. Using it just for fun? Maybe not so much. In the UK, there are now eight babies who have something unusual – three parents! They have a dad, a regular mom (let's call her Mummy-I), and a second mom (Mummy-II). But Mummy-II won't be in birthday pictures or family vacations. She only gave a tiny bit – just 0.1% – of the baby's genes. That's like 1 part in 1,000! Why did she help at all? Because that tiny bit of DNA can stop babies from getting a very serious illness called mitochondrial disease. It's rare, but dangerous, and right now, there's no cure. The special science used to fix this is called mitochondrial replacement. It's not about making 'perfect' babies with blue eyes or blonde hair – it's about helping babies be healthy. Now, some people do try to make 'designer babies.' And they don't always need super high-tech labs. For example, sperm banks let parents choose donors based on traits like height or eye colour. In 2009, a clinic in Los Angeles even let parents choose things like skin and hair colour before the baby was even born! A Chinese scientist named He Jiankui went much further in 2018. He edited genes to try to create designer babies. It was such a big deal that he was sent to jail for 3 years! But he's out now, and he says people are again interested in his work. Still, just because we can do something doesn't mean we should. Wanting your baby to be super smart or super good-looking might not work out the way you expect. As the joke goes, if a smart man and a pretty woman wanted a baby with his brain and her looks, what if the baby ends up with her brain and his looks? So – using science to help sick babies? Amazing. Using it just to try and create the 'perfect' kid? Not so smart. Facebook Twitter Linkedin Email Disclaimer Views expressed above are the author's own.

Say It Clearly!

Indian officials need to get better at explaining things to the public. After a big airplane accident in Ahmedabad last month, the people in charge of investigating it (called AAIB) said the media got their report wrong. They said they only explained what happened, not why it happened, and that the news got it all mixed up. Then, a group of pilots also said the report didn't sound right. Instead of giving clear answers, it caused even more confusion. The truth is, when people talk about serious things like plane crashes, it's very important that they explain clearly so that everyone understands. But Indian officials often don't do a great job at that. What they think they're saying and what people actually hear can be very different. This isn't the first time this has happened. When India and Pakistan had some tensions recently, the only clear message was that India didn't want things to get worse. But other important details, like about fighter jets, were left out. That led to rumors and confusion. In today's world, news spreads fast, and if officials don't explain things properly right away, people will come up with their own versions of the story. That's what happened with the plane crash. If the first press talk had been strong, clear, and had all the facts, the media wouldn't have had to guess or ask 'sources.' So instead of blaming reporters for getting it wrong, the officials should first make sure they're doing a good job telling the story right from the start. It's summertime. Stop and smell the roses. And then solve a Wordle with me. How To Solve Today's Wordle The Hint: Medieval armament. The Clue: This Wordle has far more consonants than vowels. Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! Today's Wordle Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. BALMY—which I snagged from today's Strands puzzle—was a terrible opening guess today. 896 words remained and all grey boxes. SPIRE slashed that number way, way down to just 7. SNORT left me with only one: SWORD for the win! If you added LE to the end of that word, you'd get SWORDLE which could be a fun word game about Medieval stuff or weapons or something. I just like swords a lot. I own six or seven. Today's Wordle Bot The Bot and I each get zero points today for tying and guessing in four, so our July scores remain: Erik: 5 points Wordle Bot: 9 points The word "sword" comes from Old English sweord, related to Old High German swert and Old Norse sverð. All derive from Proto-Germanic swerdam, though the exact origin is uncertain. It may be linked to the root swer- meaning 'to cut' or 'to hurt.' READ MORE ON COLDPLAY "Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy.' The crowd erupted in laughter — but the Social media sleuths figured out who the pair were shortly after the footage was posted online in the early hours of Thursday. Most read in The US Sun Since July 2023, Byron has been CEO of $1.3billion-valued company Astronomer, while Cabot joined the New York-based firm as Chief People Officer nine months ago. Coldplay fan who filmed CEO 'cheating' with HR chief at gig takes swipe at couple 'Getting out of hand' Byron's 50-year-old wife Megan Kerrigan Byron — with whom he is believed to have two kids — then seemingly confirmed the cheating allegations by removing his surname from her Facebook profile name. Cabot and Byron also appeared to delete their LinkedIn profiles. Before her page vanished, Cabot boasted on the professional social networking service that she 'wins trust with employees of all levels, from CEOs to managers to assistants'. Byron gushingly praised her 'exceptional leadership and deep expertise in talent management' when she joined his company. In return, Cabot — who public records show was divorced from ex-husband Kenneth Thornby in 2022 — waxed lyrical about being 'energised in my conversations with Andy and the Astronomer leadership team'. Several apologies by jokers pretending to be Byron circulated online. One, re-posted by billionaire X owner Elon Musk said: 'Let me start by apologising to my family, my wife, and our wonderful employees. 'My behaviour is inexcusable and the shame I am receiving is well deserved. 'I tried to hide my actions but the truth has finally been revealed. I am a Coldplay fan. 'And not just of the first two albums. I also like the recent stuff. 'I am going to take some time to contemplate my future. Please respect our family's privacy at this time.' 14 The pair immediately sprung apart after they realized they were exposed on the concert's big screen Credit: tiktok/instaagraace 14 Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was shocked when he saw the pair acting embarrassed on the screen Credit: 14 Wife Megan Kerrigan Byron removed his surname from her Facebook profile Credit: Facebook/Meg Kerrigan Another fake statement pretending to be Byron referenced the lyrics of Coldplay's hit Fix You and blamed the band for the incident. It read: 'This is not who I want to be or how I want to represent the company I helped build. 'I'm taking time to reflect, to take accountability, and to figure out the next steps, personally and professionally. I ask for privacy as I navigate that process. 'I also want to express how troubling it is that what should have been a private moment became public without my consent. 'I respect artists and entertainers, but I hope we can all think more deeply about the impact of turning someone else's life into a spectacle. ' As a friend once sang: 'Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you.'' Astronomer told US celebrity news website TMZ that it was 'not a real statement'. The Sun has approached Astronomer for comment. Mocked-up merchandise ideas also did the rounds, including one post of a man wearing a T-shirt which read: 'I took my sidepiece to the Coldplay concert and it ruined my life.' Social media users piled in with jokes poking fun at Byron, Cabot and Coldplay, who are currently on their Music of the Spheres world tour and are set to perform in Madison, Wisconsin tonight before dates in the UK next month. X user Don Lewis joked: 'I would like to thank Coldplay for bringing the nation together. For a day, you fixed us.' Eric Matheny wrote above the picture of Byron hugging Cabot from behind: 'Coldplay hasn't made a single in years. Last night, they made two.' Marisa Baldassaro poked fun at the band, saying: 'I'd divorce my husband just for attending a Coldplay concert.' Another user quipped: 'Coldplay should out people at every concert and say that they've just been Coldplayed.' 14 Memes quickly circulated on social media, replacing the pair with Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump Credit: 14 Social media users had lots of fun at the couple's expense, even mocking them up in a Lego set Credit: 14 Cheating UK politician Matt Hancock was sent up in a meme circulating on social media Credit: Referring to the ongoing scandal in the US over late paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein's client list, another wrote: 'Maybe Coldplay can reveal the Epstein list too.' Scores of users have recreated the kiss cam scene with the faces of Epstein and Donald Trump, joking the band's concerts were 'getting out of hand'. Other light-hearted images referencing the couples embrace include shamed ex-minister Matt Hancock snogging his lover Gina Coladangelo and Wayne Rooney embracing a granny. 'Blessing in disguise' Meanwhile, a source told the New York Post that former employees who had worked with Byron were revelling in his misfortune. The unnamed former colleague said: 'The text groups and chains of former employees are like, everybody's laughing their a off and enjoying the hell out of what happened and him getting exposed.' The source is said to have described Byron as 'toxic' in the workplace, with an alleged reputation for being aggressive and sales-obsessed. An article published last year about cybersecurity tech company Cybereason, where he worked as chief revenue officer in 2017, said: 'Multiple former employees said Mr Byron would lash out against employees who disagreed with him, including threatening to fire them.' A former employee told tech and business website The Information of Byron: 'You couldn't challenge him.' Last night 14 Coldplay fan Grace Springer says she feels some guilt about circulating the clip, but adds the couple are ultimately to blame Credit: instaagraace/Instagram Coldplay fan Grace Springer, 28, from New Jersey, told The Sun: 'I had no idea who the couple were. I just thought I caught an interesting reaction to the kiss cam and decided to post it. "A part of me feels bad for turning these people's lives upside down — but play stupid games, win stupid prizes. 'I hope their partners can heal from this and get a second chance at the happiness they deserve. 'I hope, for them, my video was a blessing in disguise.' And last night the hunt was on among to identify the embarrassed-looking woman who was seen standing next to Byron and Cabot when they were caught out. The brunette could be seen smiling sheepishly and holding her head in one hand after Byron and Cabot had ducked down. Coldplay's 'jumbotron' camera — a twist on the kiss cam used at baseball games — has been a feature towards the end of their gigs. Fans are shown on the big screen while Trouble hitmaker Chris improvises a few lines about them. Singer Celine Dion featured last month at a gig in Las Vegas, with Martin singing: 'Well Celine, our beautiful sister, you make my heart go on and on, near, far, you're a total superstar, let's hear it for the legendary Celine Dion.' But in the case of Byron and Cabot, the words of one of his famous hits may have been more appropriate: 'I never meant to cause you trouble.' 14 Internet pranksters mocked up an apology sketch from UK show Little Britain, explaining the embrace Credit: 14 Ruthless jokers made a call back to soccer player Wayne Rooney's affair with a much older woman Credit:
