Houston father and son celebrate birthday amid mother's ICE detention
The Brief A Houston father and son are celebrating the child's first birthday without the mother, who has been detained by ICE at the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe. Shirly Guardado, married to an active-duty Army service member, was arrested despite attending court hearings and having her sponsor petition approved. The family remains hopeful and connected through video calls, as they plan a Lion King-themed birthday celebration for their son. HOUSTON - A Houston family faces a bittersweet birthday celebration as the child's mother remains detained by ICE at the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe. What they're saying Aysaac Correa and his wife, Shirly Guardado, should be celebrating their son's first birthday together. Instead, the celebration happens through a video call as the family awaits Shirly's fate—whether she will be deported to Honduras. Shirly Guardado was arrested by ICE nearly two months ago and has been detained at the Montgomery Processing Center. Despite entering the country illegally, she had been attending her court hearings and is married to Aysaac, an active-duty Army service member. PREVIOUS REPORTING:Houston family faces separation after ICE arrests Honduran mother despite documentation "It sucks because we're so close but so far at the same time," said Aysaac Correa, referring to his weekly one-hour visits at the detention facility. Their son was 10 months old when Shirly was detained; today, he turns one without his mother present. "It's been hard. My mom and my wife have been planning the birthday for a long time, and her not being here, it's not fair," Aysaac added. Denise Martinez, Aysaac's mother, traveled from Puerto Rico to support her son. "It's difficult, and despite being one year old, the baby keeps calling 'mama, mama,'" she said. With interactions reduced to weekly visits and video calls, Shirly continues to express her love and longing for her family. The family plans to celebrate Kylian's first year with a Lion King-themed party. "As soon as he was born, I picked him up and held him in the air like Simba and sang the song, and my wife loved that," Aysaac reminisced. What we know Shirly entered the U.S. illegally in 2014 at age 16 and was issued an expedited removal order, later released under supervision. She has consistently reported to immigration authorities, graduated from high school, and married Asyaac, an active-duty U.S. Army service member, in 2022. In 2023, U.S. Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) approved Asyaac's petition for Shirly, making her arrest unexpected. Dig deeper When a petition is approved by USCIS, it means they have determined the petitioner meets the requirements for the requested immigration benefit and has approved the petition. This approval is typically followed by an official notice, such as Form I-797 Notice of Action, which can be used as evidence of the approval. Correa filed Shirly's petition, and it was approved on November 18, 2023, and is sponsoring her request for Military Parole in Place – which the couple were waiting for. Military Parole in Place (PIP) is a program that allows certain family members of U.S. military personnel, veterans, or reservists who entered the U.S. without authorization to remain in the country for a specified period. It provides temporary legal status to these family members, enabling them to stay while addressing their immigration status and potentially applying for permanent residency. The Source FOX 26's Jonathan Mejia spoke with Aysaac Correa and the family's attorney, Martin Reza.

Latest star tipped for Strictly Come Dancing after 'impressing bosses'
Following the success of Strictly Come Dancing 2024, in which Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell lifted the Glitter Ball trophy, rumours are already swirling around who will be next to take part. It remains to be seen who will take to the dancefloor when the BBC show returns later this year. However, our lineup of professional dancers has been confirmed, with all last year's favourites returning, plus the addition of two new pros to come. But who will they be teaching how to tango? Among the current rumoured lineup is Ashley Cain, who reportedly 'impressed' show bosses with his presenting skills. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. Let's take a look at the rest… Ex On The Beach star Ashley Cain could appear on Strictly after catching the eye of BBC bosses. The reality TV star, 34, reportedly made a list of stars producers would like to appear on the next season of the show. 'He's a proper character with a very interesting background that looks the part,' a source told The Mirror. 'He would be a great addition to the Strictly lineup. He's presented a couple of shows and has really impressed.' The former footballer previously said he would like to take part in Strictly as a tribute to his late daughter Azaylia, who died in 2021 at eight months old after suffering from leukaemia. Ashley and his former partner, Safiyya Vorajee, raised more than £1.5million for Azaylia's treatment before her death and have since continually raised awareness and money for charity. 'Me and my family are known for dancing. That's what we do,' he told The Sun last year. 'When I had my daughter in hospital, when she was poorly, any time that she used to be feeling poorly or she was going through chemotherapy, I used to hold her in my arms, and I used to dance with her. 'And I'd dance with her for hours and hours and hours and hours. So something like Strictly would relate to me in a sense where I would love to do a Lion King-themed dance. 'I would love to be able to tell my story on such an amazing platform that could reach out to so many incredible people.' The X Factor alum Stacey Solomon is believed to have caught the eye of Strictly bosses, who are keen to sign her up. It's thought she first landed on their radar after winning a National Television Award for her BBC One series Sort Your Life Out in September. She also has a whopping online following of over six million, with fans obsessed with her life at Pickle Cottage with husband Joe Swash and their kids. A source told The Sun: 'Stacey is a hit with viewers thanks to her lovable personality. The BBC always want to showcase their own talent on Strictly, and Stacey's show has already bagged them an NTA. 'Fans will also love watching her husband Joe Swash in the audience cheering her on every week.' Stacey would surely be open to the conversation should the Strictly phone call come, having expressed her love for the show in the past, despite not being the best dancer. 'I would never say never, but I am a terrible dancer, an absolutely terrible dancer. I don't know why, but I have no rhythm when it comes to movement,' she said in 2022. 'I have rhythm with singing or listening to music, but when it comes to moving my feet, I am left-footed; I have two left feet!' However, she's a self-professed Strictly fanatic, declaring herself 'obsessed with the costumes'. 'Also, I would love to learn a new skill like that. I love learning anything, to be honest,' added the Loose Woman. 'I'd be one of those people who would go out in week 1, and they'd be like, 'Well, that was a waste of time!'' Last series, Miranda actress Sarah Hadland wowed viewers and the judges with her dancing talents, reaching the grand final with her pro partner, Vito Coppola. Throughout the series, she was inundated with support from her celebrity pals and co-stars, most notably Miranda Hart herself, who gave the nation a gorgeous surprise by sitting front row in the studio. She even made her way into the VT one week, taking her pet pooch to visit Sarah and Vito in rehearsals and cheer them on. Miranda made no secret of the fact that she was Sarah's biggest cheerleader, sharing a video to Instagram each weekend for motivation and joking about being her sidekick's teacher. So, it's no surprise people want the star to take part in Strictly next time, now that she's returned to the public eye after battling chronic health issues for some time. People even want her to follow directly in Sarah's footsteps and be paired with Vito—Miranda galloping her way onto the Strictly dancefloor is not a want, but a need . Strictly fans also have their eyes on Big Brother 2023 finalist Yinrun Huang for the upcoming series. The foodie influencer has gained a following of hundreds of thousands with her online content since finishing fourth in the first outing of ITV's reboot. Her cooking videos have repeatedly gone viral, as have her dancing videos with husband Luke. There's one video in particular that got people talking, though, as she performed the Charli XCX Apple dance with Strictly professionals Nancy Xu and Carlos Gu. Proving herself to have natural rhythm, Yinrun has now been backed to take things one step further and compete in Strictly. '@bbcstrictly get her signed up!', commented @hmn_028 on her vid. 'Keep dancing , see you on Strictly next year', echoed @dancingmags68. She was invited down to the show last year and has remained close pals with Nancy specifically over the past few months, so if there's such a thing as a Strictly Easter egg, we reckon this could be it. If this rumour is true, Angellica Bell is in for a busy year! She started off 2025 strong by heading into the Celebrity Big Brother house with the likes of JoJo Siwa, Mickey Rourke, Chris Hughes, Jack P. Shepherd, Donna Preston, and Patsy Palmer. The CBBC star is, of course, no stranger to live TV, having started out on children's telly before moving to co-host with Martin Lewis, so we have no doubt she'd ace it under the pressure of Strictly. According to reports, Angellica was a 'reserve' for last year's series, just like when Kelvin Fletcher took over from Jamie Laing in 2019 when he got injured and had to pull out. More Trending But now, Angellica is hoping to be an original cast member. 'So when I've had like, in-depth conversations with people who are my friends and they say it's great,' Angellica previously told The Sun, 'I would definitely go from their recommendation.' Ashley Cain 'being eyed up for Strictly Come Dancing' after 'impressing' BBC bosses with presenting work
Ashley Cain is reportedly being eyed up for Strictly Come Dancing after 'impressing' BBC bosses with his TV work. The former Ex On The Beach star, 34, is said to have made it to the initial list of names that producers have in mind for the next series of the show. A source told The Mirror: 'He's a proper character with a very interesting background that looks the part. 'He would be a great addition to the Strictly line up. He's presented a couple of shows and has really impressed.' According to the publication, an insider revealed that bosses work from a list of roughly 30 names before whittling it down to the final 15 to take part. MailOnline has contacted the BBC for comment. Ashley, who rose to fame on the dating show in 2014, has recently branched out into presenting with his show Ashley Cain: Into The Danger Zone having aired this month. In the show, he visits some of the world's most dangerous places to deep-dive into issues that affect young men born into a life where criminality has become a form of survival. After an insider secures him an intro, he'll use his curiosity, physicality and sheer force of personality to earn peoples' trust and infiltrate an infamous underworld. In each episode Ashley explores the reasons why young men in each location have chosen a life of extreme criminality. He is pushed to his physical and emotional limits, form personal bonds with complex men, and explore extreme male cultures he never knew existed. The star has previously said he would love to take part in Strictly as a tribute to his late daughter Azaylia. The reality star and his now ex-partner Safiyya Vorajee were left devastated after their little girl lost her battle against leukaemia in April 2021 at just eight months old. Former footballer Ashley and Safiyya raised more than £1.5million to fund Azaylia's specialist treatment before her death. After she passed, they put the unspent money into The Azaylia Foundation which aims to support families and provide memorable experiences for children fighting cancer. In an interview with The Sun in July 2024, Ashley said: 'When I had my daughter in hospital, when she was poorly, any time that she used to be feeling poorly or she was going through a chemotherapy, I used to hold her in my arms and I used to dance with her. 'And I'd dance with her for hours and hours and hours and hours. So something like Strictly would relate to me in a sense where I would love to do a Lion King-themed dance. 'I would love to be able to tell my story on such an amazing platform that could reach out to so many incredible people.' Ashley and Safiyya separated after the death of their daughter, with Ashley going on to become the father of two sons with two other women. He welcomed son Aliyas, one, with a new partner and mystery woman in January last year who he later split from and has a five-month old son Atlas too. Though Ashley hasn't disclosed the identity of Atlas's mother, he has confirmed that they are no longer in a relationship, and have been friends since they were 18 years old. It comes just after Ashley shared a heartfelt tribute to Azaylia as her 'crown' headstone was placed on her grave, four years after her tragic death. On Wednesday, the grieving parents unveiled the special headstone that had made for Azaylia, which they have named as her 'crown'. Sharing a photo of Azaylia in the hospital and her heart-shaped headstone at her gravesite, he penned a touching message praising her 'strength and courage' And commemorating the moment, Ashley took to his Instagram to pay tribute to his little girl, as he admitted that he felt 'an overwhelming sense of pride', alongside 'the numbing guilt and the devastating pain'. Sharing a photo of Azaylia in the hospital and her heart-shaped headstone at her gravesite, he penned a touching message praising her 'strength and courage'. He wrote: 'For 4 years, I've lived in fear of this very moment. As a parent, you never, ever want to reach the day where this becomes the final thing you can do for your child. 'But today, on Azaylia's 4th anniversary, through the numbing guilt and the devastating pain… I feel an overwhelming sense of pride. 'Pride that one of Earth's most beautiful little princesses, and one of Heaven's most beloved angels, now has a special crown worthy enough to hold her story.' Addressing Azaylia directly, Ashley admitted he had struggled to find the words to express how much he loved her ever since her passing. He gushed: 'These words have taken 4 years to write - and even now, they will never be enough to say who you are, or what you've done for me as your father. 'They'll never come close to expressing the enormity of your strength, your courage, your beauty, and your purity. Or the profound impact you've had on this world and its people. 'But I hope, as your daddy, they show just how much I love you. And I know your mummy and all of our family will feel the exactly same.' Concluding the heartbreaking post, he added: 'I miss you with a pain that never fades, and I love you with a strength that will never end. Forever, with every piece of me - Daddy.' The beautiful 'crown' headstone was emblazoned with a photo of Azaylia and read: 'Earth 10.08.2020 Heaven 24.04.2021. Our precious daughter Azaylia Diamond Cain. 'Azaylia, our brave and beautiful little warrior. You were more than we ever dreamed. Our miracle, our heart, our hero. 'Your love so pure, your spirit unbreakable, and your light endless. You faced every challenge with courage, lighting up the world with your smile. 'We are so proud of you, Azaylia, and always will be. You taught us to live, to fight, and to love without limits. 'We long for you more than words can express, But your legacy lives on, inspiring and saving lives. Keep shining, our guiding light. LET'S GO CHAMP'. 'Forever and Always, with all our love, Mummy, Daddy & Your Loving Family'. Safiyya also shared a tribute, explaining: 'I call it her crown instead of a headstone, just like I call it her garden ✨using softer words brings a little peace to something so heavy. It helps me honour her in a way that feels gentle, beautiful, and true to who she is' She shared a heartbreaking video of her singing When You Believe by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston to Azaylia the day before she died. While she also posted a photo of her family gathered at Azaylia's garden, admitting it had been 'a day with a sad heart and many tears but also a memory filled with happy moments'. She added: 'You are my magical guardian angel. I love you forever and always mummy'. If you are struggling with the loss of a child please contact Sands on 0808 164 3332 or helpline@

The pair split the following year. Ashley has since campaigned in his daughter's memory, setting up the Azaylia Foundation, which calls for advancing early diagnosis and new treatment availability in the UK, while at the same time supporting children fighting cancer. Ashley has said he would love to take part in Strictly as a tribute to Azaylia. 'Me and my family are known for dancing,' he said previously to The Sun. 'That's what we do. When I had my daughter in hospital, when she was poorly, any time that she used to be feeling poorly or she was going through a chemotherapy, I used to hold her in my arms and I used to dance with her.
