Real reason Captain America star Chris Evans skipped huge premiere of his new film in Cannes
Chris Evans was noticeably missing from the world premiere of his new film Honey Don't during the 78th Cannes Film Festival in France last Friday. The retired Captain America - turning 44 next month - did not provide an explanation for his absence until Sunday morning. 'I wish I could've been with my incredible cast and filmmakers at Cannes,' Chris - who boasts 17.4M Instagram followers - wrote. 'But it was my mother's 70th birthday and there are some things you just can't miss! Congrats everyone!' Last Friday, Collider critic Therese Lacson wrote that Evans presents 'one of the funniest characters' in the movie, but she 'questioned his character's purpose'- following the twisted climax. Mashable critic Kristy Puchko agreed that the finale will 'divide critics and audiences' she called the Boston-born Buddhist 'hilarious' and his 'physicality is suitably absurd.' From the 12 submitted reviews, Honey Don't currently has a dismal 50% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. On December 30, Chris wrapped his role as kidnapped movie star Mike Tyler in Romain Gavras' upcoming adventure comedy Sacrifice. Evans is also credited as a producer on the flick featuring Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek, Vincent Cassel, Charli XCX, and John Malkovich. But first, audiences can catch the Deadpool & Wolverine actor as lovesick waiter John in Celine Song's matchmaking rom-com Materialists - hitting US theaters June 13 - alongside Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal.

Aussie community 'embarrassed' by 'absolute mess' left at beachfront park ahead of Easter
A proud Aussie community has been left embarrassed at the 'absolute mess' created near one of the nation's most popular beaches. Pictures shared to social media show the grassy area up from the Gold Coast's famous Burleigh Heads has been turned into a field of mud following a two-day surf event. Local woman Cindy Amey walks up the hill at 6:00am every morning, and she was left 'shocked' by what she saw this week. With so many tourists in town for the Easter holidays, she's worried what they'll think of her suburb. 'I just couldn't believe what I was seeing, it's horrific. The grass up there had been looking so good, they'd even relaid turf up there recently,' she told Yahoo News. 'Families go up there, and the view is fantastic. It's a good place to go and have a picnic, but you couldn't do that now, it's embarrassing. If I arrived here on holidays and that was on my doorstep, I'd be wondering what's going on?' Another woman Lisa Evans said on Facebook that she feared no one would be able to use the park for months. "Locals [are] throughly irritated and disappointed by the use & abuse of the park time and time again," she wrote. Deep tyre tracks and puddles of water can be seen across the hilltop, and many have complained the area had begun to smell like a bog. 'It's got that creek-like sewer smell,' one resident told Yahoo. Dozens of Gold Coast locals have shared their frustration at the 'trashing' of the hill on social media. 'This is a disgrace. There have been hundreds of events on Burleigh Hill over the years… Never has the hill been left in such a state as this,' one person wrote. 'A once beautiful area enjoyed by families, especially over Easter, is now just a mud bath,' another added. 'Just horrible,' someone else lamented. But others weren't phased by the state of the park, with some confident a sprinkling of seeds and a few weeks of sunshine would see the grass restored. 'It will be as good as ever in a few weeks. I think people and tourists expect this in a heavy downfall of rain,' one person said. Stockton Council leader Bob Cook to step down after 14 years

MS woman defrauded COVID relief program of over $5M
MEMPHIS, Tenn — A Mississippi woman pleaded guilty to defrauding a federal program that helped fund small businesses to survive the COVID-19 pandemic of over $5 million . On Friday, Lisa Evans, 42, from Olive Branch, pleaded guilty before the United States District Judge Thomas L. Parker to conspiracy to commit wire fraud against the Paycheck Protection Program. She will be sentenced on May 22 and faces a maximum term of 20 years in federal prison. Bond revoked for Emmitt Martin after alleged threats; Tyre Nichols defendant back in custody According to reports, Evans submitted fraudulent PPP loan applications for multiple people who were not entitled to PPP loans. The applications she submitted had false representations, including fake federal tax documents. The people who borrowed the loans paid Evans kickbacks of 20 to 30 percent. Reports say the loss to the PPP program was $5,126,258. 'Individuals cheating the Paycheck Protection Program stole money from U.S. taxpayers who desperately needed these loans to keep their small businesses afloat and pay their employees during the COVID-19 pandemic,' said Acting U.S. Attorney Fondren.
