Coronation Street star's future on ITV soap revealed as soap son is murdered
CORONATION Street star Lisa George's future on the ITV soap has been revealed after the death of her soap son. The actress - who played Beth Tinker in the ITV soap - quit the show in 2024 with her character being driven out of Weatherfield by dodgy cop Kit Green. 2 2 At the time Lisa revealed she wanted to tackle new roles after playing Beth for 12 years. 'There were things I still wanted to achieve and that's why I decided I needed to do something else,' she said. 'I don't want to be known for one character all my life. I could easily do that, but I thought I needed to get back to my roots." However just a year later Lisa's on-screen son Colson Smith was axed from the soap with his character Craig brutally beaten to death. He died on screen in heartbreaking scenes with stepdad Kirk watching on in hospital. It has led to fan speculation that Lisa will reprise her role on the show. However The Sun can reveal that the actress will not be back. A source said: 'Craig's funeral will take place away from Weatherfield with Beth very much involved - but she won't be back on screen. 'It will all make sense for the story and there's a very touching goodbye to Craig from his friends in the community instead.' Actor Colson recently ruled out returning to the soap as a ghost, vision or flashback after laying down the law with bosses. Coronation Street's Colson Smith reveals the moment soap boss 'binned him' from show and says 'I knew it was coming' Speaking for the first time after his final appearance, Colson insisted that he wouldn't be making a post-death appearance like so many of his other colleagues. 'Yeah, I did say I won't be coming back as a ghost,' he said. 'I was like, the day I leave will be the day that I leave.' He added: 'It feels like it's done. It feels like it's finished, like I've got everything that I've got from Coronation Street and that's it now. Most devastating soap deaths SOAP viewers are frequently left heartbroken after watching some of their favourite characters bite the dust. Here is a list of the most devastating deaths that have taken place in soapland over the years. EASTENDERS Barry Evans - Evil Janine (Charlie Brooks) lured her trusting fiance to Scotland for a quickie marriage after learning he was dying. Her plan to inherit Barry's fortune was thwarted when Barry told her that the doctors had mixed up his medical files. Furious that she was no longer set for a windfall, she pushed Barry off a cliff after telling him their love was 'fake'. Bradley Branning - Bradley was accused of killing Stacey Slater's rapist Archie Mitchell (Larry Lamb) after he punched him twice on the night he died. He was spotted in the Square by a police woman who chased him up a fire escape. Bradley lost his balance and tragically plunged to his death. CORONATION STREET Tina McIntyre - Tina was getting it on with Peter Barlow - despite him being married to Carla Connor. When she threatened to reveal the truth, Carla's brother Rob got into a physical altercation with her. Tina lost her footing and fell off a balcony - then warned Rob she was going to tell the cops he pushed her. In a panic, Rob brutally clobbered her over the head with a metal pipe. Molly Dobbs - Molly was one of the victims in Corrie's 2010 tram crash, alongside Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold). Married to Tyrone (Alan Halsall), Molly had been having an affair with Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) in the months before her death. This resulted in the birth of their son, Jack (Kyran Bowes), who was named after Jack Duckworth. As fate would have it, Kevin's wife Sally (Sally Dynevor) was by Molly's side in her final moments. Sally was stunned as Molly confessed Kevin was Jack's father, before dying of her injuries. Vera Duckworth - Having appeared regularly in Corrie since the 1970s, there was no denying Vera Duckworth was an iconic character. Alongside her husband Jack, the pair formed one of the soap's most beloved couples. Viewers were heartbroken when Vera was killed off in 2008, being discovered having passed away peacefully in her chair. Liz Dawn, who played Vera, made a brief return two years later for Bill Tarmey's exit as Jack. Paul Foreman - Fans were heartbroken when Paul Foreman succumbed to his illness after battling motor neurone disease. Introduced in 2018 as David Platt's (Jack P. Shepherd) cellmate, he later embarked on a romance - and marriage - with vicar Billy Mayhew. The MND storyline was announced in 2023 - with the expectation it would result in the character's death. EMMERDALE Sarah Sugden - After the family got into financial problems, Sarah's son Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) decided to make some quick cash from an insurance company by setting fire to the Sugden barn. He didn't realise his mum was inside the building, and she got trapped in the blaze. Nine villagers - The shocking 1993 plane crash episode brought in 18 million viewers for Emmerdale. Mark Hughes was killed by a falling wall, Archie Brooks was burned by jet fuel, Elizabeth Pollard was killed by debris and newcomer Leonard Kempinski died in a car crash caused by the crash. Five other non-recurring characters from the village also died. HOLLYOAKS Carmel McQueen - The talented singer died in shocking scenes when a train crashed into a her family's car. Carmel managed to free her cousin Theresa from the rubble - but got stuck in it herself. Moments later the train exploded and Carmel died in the arms of her family members, promising to be their guardian angel. 'So it felt very much like a thank you, goodbye, goodnight type thing, because I know there's no return for Craig and Colson in the future. 'I have spoke to people who have left and not been killed and I just feel like, for me, it was 100% the right way to kind of know that I'm not coming back.'

Corrie's Lisa George left 'petrified' after having surgery without anaesthetic
Coronation Street star Lisa George is unrecognisable from her days as Beth Tinker as she has lost weight, changed her hairstyle and undergone surgery Coronation Street icon Lisa George has candidly opened up about going under the knife to change her appearance. The 54-year-old star is best known for playing Beth Tinker in the long-running ITV soap from 2011 to 2024. Away from Corrie, she has also made appearances on other much-loved shows including Emmerdale and Casualty - and was even a contestant on Dancing on Ice in 2020 where she was paired with Tom Naylor and made it to fifth place. Away from the TV screen, however, Lisa admits she has struggled with her confidence. Lisa explained that she became self-conscious about her appearance after her star power rose after she joined the cast of Coronation Street. She even stopped smiling in photographs as she battled low self-esteem. Lisa struggled with the appearance of her eyes, which she felt were accentuated by the heavy makeup she was caked in to play Beth on the ITV soap. The actress was particularly distracted by the way the makeup made her eyelids look like they were "sagging." She told the Daily Mail:"They'd put all this eyeshadow on my eyes and it sort of sat in all the wrinkles and it just looked like it has been dragged across my eyelid and I hated the way it looked. I was just so unhappy but I didn't have the confidence to do anything about it. "No one ever said anything to me, there were no comments, it was more about me being critical of myself. It was just really bothering me. Every time I was putting my make-up on, there were my eyes. I didn't ever like smiling in photographs because of the way my eyes looked." Lisa shared photographs of herself around a Blepharoplasty surgery that she underwent, taking a year to decide to go through with the procedure while she balanced the pros and the risks. The soap star essentially had excess skin "burned" off her eyelids via the procedure, and also had a brow lift. The operations were performed in January and a year after Lisa was diagnosed with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) a genetic eye condition which causes a drop in blood flow and oxygen to the optic never which can cause vision loss. Discussing the day of her surgery, Lisa explained that doctors told her they would have to perform the operation without general anaesthesia because she has diabetes. She recounted to the publication: "I was absolutely petrified. I just assumed they'd give me a general anaesthetic and I'd wake up and it would be all over." Lisa explained that due to her diabetes and concerns over her sugar levels, she could only be given a local anaesthetic. This was not something she could have expected. She recalled thinking 'what am I doing?' throughout the procedure. Despite her concerns, Lisa praised the medical staff, revealing she didn't feel a thing throughout the procedure, and the team also had music playing while she had the operation to ease her nerves. As she continued her chat, Lisa explained she had turned down some work in order to undergo her surgery and recover from it - but she hopes to be back on TV soon. She added that she has changed her hair and lost weight since leaving the ITV soap and hopes to land a role on a show like Rivals, which streams via Disney+. Since undergoing surgery, Lisa has certainly been feeling more confident and has been showing off her new look online. Taking to Instagram recently, she shared two snaps of herself posing in a white dress. Sharing the images on her main feed, she added a caption stating: "Thank you all so much for the love recently, means the world" along with a white heart emojis. She added hashtags writing: #newme #feelingthelove.
