Search for Aussie millionaires as $116m in lotto prizes remain unclaimed

A group of Aussies could be secret millionaires as Lotto tickets worth more than $100m remain unclaimed. Aussies have been urged to check their lotto tickets to see if they could be one of the 17 mystery winners of prizes totalling a combined $116 million. This includes a staggering $100 million prize from the June 12 Powerball this year. The ticket was purchased at the Bondi Junction Newsagency & Internet Cafe in NSW. Other major prizes yet to be claimed include $4.8m from the Set for Life game on April 8, 2021, purchased at the Thistle Kiosk. Another Set for Life winner is yet to claim $4.8m from the November 30, 2024 draw, the ticket bought at the Nextra Kiama. Majority of the unclaimed prizes are from NSW, the figure sitting at about $107m followed by $5.3m in the ACT, $2.7m in Queensland, and $1m in Victoria. A Lott spokesperson said they were eager to connect Aussies with their unclaimed cash and 'help kickstart their dreams'. 'So, whether you're digging through old receipts in preparation for tax time or deep cleaning the house, keep an eye out for any unchecked lottery tickets,' the spokesperson said. 'We'd love to pair the winners with their prize!' However, they warned prize claim periods vary across each state and territory. Those in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia have only 12 months to claim their winnings, with the claim period extending to three years in the Northern Territory, six years in ACT and NSW, and seven years in Queensland. Just last month a Wonthaggi man discovered he'd won more than $2.1m from a ticket his wife gifted him for Christmas, but had forgotten to check as 'life got in the way'. 'It's very surreal,' the man said following the discovery. 'My wife always buys a lottery ticket for everyone in the family for Christmas. 'I completely forgot about the ticket … I only thought the other day that I should check the ticket. I couldn't believe it. 'Things like this never happen to us.' He said he would divide the prize up between his family. 'It will help many people!' he said. The Lott spokesperson emphasised the importance of registering entries to ensure winners can be easily identified and contacted.

Brisbane grandfather scores big with $31 million lotto win

A Brisbane grandfather has become an overnight multi-millionaire after winning the entire Powerball jackpot. The Wynnum man has had an ectatic start to his weekend after he was informed on Friday that he had scored an eye watering $31,140,405.47. The man was left in disbelief after being told he held the only division one winning entry. 'Holy sh**! Wow. Unbelievable!' he said. 'Oh, my goodness. Words can't explain how I'm feeling right now. Dear, dear, dear.' After discovering the scope of his winnings, the man said the sum will do 'so much' for his family. 'It'll set up my kids and grandkids,' he said. 'Never in a million years did I think I would get this call. 'I'm retired myself. I've lived a happy life, and I've been lucky enough to tick most things off my bucket list, so this will be used more for helping others.' Speaking to The Lott over the phone, the man said he just 'couldn't believe it' and that the most he had ever won was a chocolate Easter basket. 'These are my numbers I've played for years,' he said. 'I chose them a long time ago now. I usually play Saturday Gold Lotto, but sometimes I play Powerball when it has a higher jackpot. 'It's funny because I also bought a Set for Life ticket and thought, 'Wow, it'd be nice to get that', but this is even better! 'You've made my day. You've made my week. You've made my kids' lifetime! 'Now, I'm going to have a quiet day, letting reality set in.' His winning marked PowerHit entry was purchased online on the Lott website.

One lucky punter takes home entire $30m jackpot in Thursday night Powerball

One lucky Australian has woken up a multi-millionaire after taking home the entire Division One prize of $30m in last night's Powerball. Last night's winning numbers for Draw 1523 were 2, 25, 6, 4, 31, 34, 19 with the Powerball number 20. The lucky ticket holder, who was not a Tatts member and is yet to claim their winning ticket, won the entire Division One prize of $30,628,398.22. There were 21 Division Two winners, who will each take home $26,947.75, and 56 Division Three winners, who won $12,563.50 each. Thursday night also saw 1085 Australians taking home the Division Four prize of $563.85, while 2502 lucky punters have won $183.40. Last month, one lucky punter won the $100m Powerball jackpot, but is still yet to claim their winnings. The elusive winner of the June draw, who bought their ticket a Bondi Junction Newsagency, was also not a Tatts member and therefore their identity will remain a mystery until they come forward with their winning ticket. The Lott spokesman Matt Hart said winners from NSW have six years to claim their prize. 'We've had division one winners come forward months and even years after the winning numbers were drawn to claim their prizes,' he said. 'In most cases, these winners have told us the winning ticket was hiding in plain sight the whole time – in their wallet or purse, in the car console or on the fridge door.'

Lotto: Mystery Queensland man pockets $900k Lotto win after delayed ticket check

The search is over for Mackay's mystery millionaire-in-waiting. A local North Queensland man has finally come forward to claim his $900,000-plus Saturday Gold Lotto prize just days after his winning ticket sat unregistered and unchecked. The Andergrove resident held one of seven division one winning entries nationally in draw 4591, scored on Saturday, July 19, and now has a very tidy $913,137.13 to his name. Unlike registered players, who receive automatic alerts, the man's win remained undetected until he strolled into his local newsagency and scanned the ticket himself. 'Woo-hoo! Thank you very much,' he exclaimed. 'I went and checked the ticket at the newsagency, and I couldn't believe it. 'I play every week, and I never expect to win anything! 'Celebrations are definitely a given!' But despite joining the ranks of Australia's newest Lotto elite, he says there's no master plan just yet. 'I honestly have no idea. I'll have to think about it,' he said. 'I'm too stunned right now, but I'm sure it will go to good use.' The winning entry was bought at Newsextra Village, Shop 6, 23 Oak Street, Andergrove, where the excitement was just as electric. Store owner Susan Vella said the win was a landmark moment for her team. 'It's definitely a great start to the week! I was going through my emails on Monday and received a shock when I read that we sold a division one winning entry,' she said. 'I had to re-read the email a couple of times to make sure I was reading it correctly. 'This is a very exciting milestone for us, as this is the first division one winning entry we've ever sold. We will be decorating the store with balloons and streamers'. Of the seven national division one winners, four hailed from Victoria, and one each from South Australia, Queensland and Tasmania. The Lott's division one winning tally for 2025 now stands at 241, with 99 of those wins going to Golden Casket customers. In 2024, Saturday Gold Lotto minted 149 new millionaires and paid out over $400 million in division one prizes. The winning numbers in draw 4591 were 7, 42, 36, 17, 15 and 22, with supplementary numbers 34 and 9.
