Red Room reacts as Liverpool pursue Isak and assess Diaz sale
Liverpool Eyeing Isak as Diaz Future Uncertain: Red Room Reacts As Liverpool gear up for another season under Arne Slot, the buzz from The Red Room podcast is impossible to ignore. Grizz Khan returned to hosting duties this week alongside regulars Mo, Lewis, Ben and Mike, all sharing passionate takes on the Reds' transfer moves, their emotional return to football and a potential record-breaking swoop for Alexander Isak. Isak on the Horizon The biggest talking point? Liverpool's concrete interest in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, with reports suggesting the club are willing to smash their transfer record to sign the Swedish international. Mike summed up the mood perfectly: 'I think we do sign him. I have a really… eternal optimism.' The panel agreed that the pursuit of Isak is more than speculation. Grizz claimed, 'We broke it on Red Room… we will make a bid and target Isak.' Mo was similarly excited, stating: 'Isak is proven. Premier League. 20 goals the last two seasons now.' And crucially, Grizz added, 'Are we really the disorganised Liverpool of the last 18 months? We're not. We're back.' Even Lewis, who said it was never 'Isak or bust,' admitted: 'If we get Isak, there is no doubt in my mind that he will be a bona fide first-team, 20 to 25 goal-a-season striker.' Diaz: Stay or Go? The emotional tug-of-war over Luis Diaz continued throughout the episode. While some fans remain attached to the Colombian winger, the consensus is shifting. Mo gave a measured view: 'If I put the business hat on… you're letting 70 million walk out the door in a couple of years. I think he's going to go.' Lewis added: 'If the money's right and they come in with a slightly increased bid, I will not lose sleep over losing him.' Ben revealed insight from journalist Pipe Sierra: 'Diaz ideally wants to stay, but if he's not getting the contract he wants, he's likely to leave.' Mike was blunt about the contract debate: 'You deserve a contract extension if the contract you're looking for makes sense… I don't think Diaz deserves to be on a similar wage to what a star striker would be on.' Rodrigo as Diaz's Replacement? Should Diaz depart, the name most frequently linked is Rodrygo Goes from Real Madrid. The panel was largely in favour of the Brazilian stepping in. Mike highlighted: 'He'd cause absolute chaos in the Prem. I was concerned when Arsenal were linked with him.' Lewis offered a stat-based argument: 'Top 21% for key passes, top 30 for progressive passes. He's one of the most creatively gifted players from a progressive play perspective.' Ben was on board too: 'If we're going to get Isak, there's absolutely no chance [we're getting Gordon]. So Rodrigo would be my pick.' Still, Grizz had his own view, saying: 'Gordon would torch the Premier League.' But he accepted the reality: 'The chances of us getting Gordon and Isak are zero.'

Liverpool OVERTAKE Arsenal in €100m talks
Liverpool have reportedly overtaken Arsenal in pursuit of a €100m forward. The Reds are now closest to making this happen. Luis Diaz has massively complicated things at Liverpool. The Colombian wasn't supposed to leave this summer or at the least, the Reds didn't think he would. Diaz isn't exactly an untouchable at Anfield but the idea that someone would pay his asking price seemed farfetched. And the to be fair, it has been. Barcelona and Bayern Munich have each pushed for Diaz in the last few weeks. Both failed to get anywhere near what Liverpool would want in order to sell. But now the winger has made it clear to Liverpool that he wants out. And that may well force their hand as offers continue to arrive. At the very least, it has the Reds seeking a replacement and they appear to have found a very high-profile one. Liverpool lead Rodrygo race AS claims Liverpool are now at the front of the queue for Rodrygo. The outlet mentions that the Reds view him as a replacement for Diaz, should he leave the club this summer. And so they'll fly in for talks about Rodrygo. A deal might be able to happen, even if Real Madrid want €100m for their player. Importantly, Arsenal - previously considered favourites to sign Rodrygo - are now 'more distant' in the race than Liverpool. The Reds have stolen a march on the Gunners, pushing to the front and now signing the Brazilian is a real possibility. But there is a way to go just yet. Liverpool won't sign Rodrygo unless Diaz leaves but that will take a large fee in order to cover signing the replacement.

Liverpool open talks to sign Hugo Ekitike after Alexander Isak transfer response
Liverpool are still hopeful of making a new attacking signing despite already spending more than £170m and want Alexander Isak from Newcastle, but the Magpies are reluctant to lose their star man Liverpool have approached Eintracht Frankfurt over signing Hugo Ekitike as an alternative if they can't land Newcastle forward Alexander Isak. The Reds have already had a busy transfer window so far after bringing in full-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, plus highly-rated playmaker Florian Wirtz for £116.5million. But Arne Slot's side aren't finished there and want a new striker to be brought in to play with the likes of Mohamed Salah, challenging Luis Diaz for a place up front. Isak appears to be Liverpool's No.1 target this summer but a deal looks difficult to get done, with Newcastle set to demand more than £125m for their star man - so they are now said to be looking at Ekitike as a back-up option. According to the Athletic, Liverpool have made contact with Frankfurt, but it won't be simple for the Reds to get the Frenchman either. Interestingly enough, Newcastle are also chasing Ekitike and have already had a £70m bid for the striker turned down by Frankfurt, who are said to want £85m. The Magpies want the hitman to play alongside Isak - having failed to snap him up in 2022. At that point he opted to join PSG, but struggled to get game time for the French club as he scored a total of just four goals in the 2022-23 season. After being loaned to Frankfurt in 2024, his move was eventually turned permanent and he managed to smash in 22 goals from 48 appearances in all competitions last season. It comes at a time where Liverpool are dealing with possible outgoings. Darwin Nunez has been strongly linked with an exit after links to Napoli. There have also been reports AC Milan have launched a £52m bid for the Uruguayan, who struggled for game time under Slot last season. Liverpool have also had to fend off interest in Luis Diaz from Bayern Munich. The German club had a £58.6m bid rejected for the Colombian forward, with Liverpool insisting the player was not for sale. Liverpool value the player closer to £87m after he helped the Reds win the title last season with 17 goals.

Why Diaz is in demand
It is easy to see why Bayern Munich are interested in Luis Diaz, and why Liverpool are in no mood to sell. The Colombian enjoyed his most prolific season for a single club as the Reds won the league title in 2024-25, scoring 17 goals. [BBC] Unsurprisingly, Diaz's shot conversion rate of 18.3% comfortably ranks as his best in a Premier League season. Advertisement Many of his other attributes stood out statistically, with Diaz hovering just outside the top 10 in the Premier League for most combined goals and assists (18), shots on target (30), chances created (56) and dribbles completed (52). His defensive attributes and renowned work-rate are also evidenced by the fact he won possession in the final third on 22 occasions, more than any other Liverpool player relative to their time spent on the pitch.
