Blow for Ireland goalkeeper as lengthy layoff confirmed after ankle surgery
Bristol City have confirmed that Ireland goalkeeper Max O'Leary will miss the start of the new campaign - and there is bad news too for their former St Patrick's Athletic defender. Luke McNally suffered a season-ending Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear in an early-February defeat to Swansea. The ex-Saints ace, who also played on-loan at Drogheda United, joined Bristol City last summer from Burnley and played 27 times in all competitions. It was confirmed on Saturday, however, that he did not travel to Portugal with the rest of his teammates for a pre-season training camp after he suffered what was described as a 'minor setback' in his recovery. As for O'Leary, he made his senior Ireland debut in the 0-0 friendly away to Luxembourg in June. However, he will be out of action for the next three to four months after he underwent surgery on an ankle injury.
