Lululemon Wash EasySet Training Short-Sleeve Shirt I love the boxy fit of this tee alongside its wash finish that brings a trendy look to an otherwise basic tee. Wear it to casual events or as a workout tee thanks to its stretchy Lycra fabric makeup. Lululemon 9-Inch Warpstreme Commission Classic-Fit Shorts From Black and Grey to Tan and Navy, these ABC men's shorts are incredibly versatile with any short-sleeve shirt. The classic chino also bodes well for different occasions — be it golf, brunch or drinks. Lululemon 9-Inch Woven Air ABC Classic-Fit Shorts Available in fun colors like this Lilac option, these shorts add a fun element to warm wardrobes. Upon closer inspection, you'll notice it's also made from the brand's technical Woven Air fabric, which is designed to be breathable in quick drying. Jack P Shepherd's chaotic love life that rivals Coronation Street's David Platt

Jack P Shepherd might have as chaotic a love life as his Coronation Street character David Platt. Here we look back at his love life as he gets married this weekend to Hanni Treweek On the Coronation Street cobbles, David Platt hasn't had the easiest time with the women in his life. His relationship with Kylie Platt was tricky and at one point, he was even caught up in a love triangle with his brother Nick. ‌ Elsewhere, he had feelings for his colleague and friend Maria Connor, and now he is with Shona Ramsey, who he met after her son Clayton killed his former wife Kylie. Shona and David are now married but their marriage hit a hiccup when she had an affair with Kit. ‌ Jack P Shepherd - who has played David for decades - might have a love life which rivals his character's. Ahead of his wedding this weekend, we take a look back at his past relationships - and his upcoming marriage to Hanni Treweek. ‌ Hanni Treweek Jack and Hanni worked together on the Cobbles, during her time on the soap between 2018 and 2020, but the pair's spark begun after they bonded away from the ITV soap set. They bonded at a mutual friend's wedding and that is where their relationship sparked. "We got chatting, I made Hanni laugh, we had a couple of drinks and we flirted. That was it," he said of their romance. ‌ After that, a chance encounter in a supermarket led them to start texting. He recalled: "I actually thought she looked fit I just saw the girl I fancy wearing Lycra! We quickly went on our first date and we just clicked." Jack called Hanni is "soulmate", admitting they had discussed marriage and children early on into their romance. He explained: "I think it is only sensible really to have those sorts of conversations with a partner or someone that you're dating even if you're going out for like a few months, as soon as you know it's serious." "I think we fell quite quickly and from that we just clicked, and we were on the same page, and you do have those conversations but yeah I think we would like to... in the future," Hanni added of the pair's plans to start a family. ‌ Jack and Hanni got engaged in 2024 during a safari holiday in Tanzania and the pair will marry this weekend. Lauren Shippey Before he was with Hanni, Jack was in a relationship with Lauren Shippey - who he was with from 2002. The pair share two children together - Nyla and Reuben - but their relationship hit the headlines for the wrong reason in 2010. In 2010, Jack was hit with scandal when news broke of an affair with sales executive Sammy Milewski. The pair split at the time but eventually got back together and he issued a public apology. ‌ At the time, he said in a statement: "On Sunday, there were some articles printed about errors I have made in my private life. Over the years, I have enjoyed a successful career with Coronation Street, and with this, I have experienced privileges that have exceeded my own expectations. The core ingredients to my success have come from the following areas; my family, ITV Granada, and specifically my girlfriend Lauren and daughter Nyla. "I would like to apologise to my family, for all the hurt and pain I have caused them, to ITV Granada for letting them down, and especially to Lauren and Nyla, who are the most important people in my life. I now need to concentrate on what is really important, my family and my career, as I have abused my position as an employee, partner and father, and for that I am deeply sorry." ‌ Sammy Milewski Jack had an affair with Sammy whilst with his ex Lauren. He has a son named Greyson with Sammy. It has been reported that he has never met the little boy but he fulfils his financial responsibilities after DNA results confirmed his paternity. Greyson has an incurable one-in-a-million genetic disorder called alternating hemiplegia, which paralyses parts of his body and leaves him in intense pain and has been in and out of hospital since he was born in January 2011. Marking Greyson's birthday back in 2021, Sammy wrote a paragraph praising her son: "Massive Happy Birthday to this amazing little man. What a year it's been an we're going into! with so many challenges but you never cease to amaze me, with everything going on in the world an struggles you deal with daily #AHC #paralysis yet you constantly light up any room with your witty charm and personality never letting anything set you back."

These Wool Socks Survived a 24-hour Travel Day—Plus, 6 More Pairs We Love

Whether for lounging, embarking on a cold-weather endeavor, or hiking in warm temperatures, wool socks are always my top choice. I personally love wool socks from Smartwool and Ibex for all types of trips and adventures. Wool is known to be far superior when it comes to a do-it-all material. With its moisture-wicking properties and ability to regulate temperatures, wool is an ideal material for socks. Since the fibers are particularly travel-friendly, we tested 15 pairs of wool-blend socks. We evaluated them for comfort, fit, quality, and breathability. From sightseeing to sitting on a plane, these are the wool socks that impressed us most with a high-quality feel and comfortable fit. Credit: L.L. Bean The Adults' Merino Wool Ragg Socks earned top points in our tests, landing them as our best overall pick. We wore these socks for more than 24 hours straight during a long-haul flight (and extra-long travel day) to Europe. After clocking more than 20,000 steps in one day while wearing these socks, we noticed that they maintained their shape well, with minimal shrinkage or stretching. Their stretch added to the comfort level, and we found them to be fantastic at temperature regulation. We appreciated that they stayed in place and didn't bunch up. Though they are on the thicker side, it's important to decide what kind of shoes you will use them with regularly. Even when our feet became warm, they did a great job of keeping moisture away, so our feet didn't feel sweaty. We also really like that they come in a two-pack. After a short time of wearing the socks, there were some loose threads, but nothing excessive. We found them to be very soft and extremely comfortable to wear, with no blisters, hot spots, or bunching, perfect for high-impact activities. Since they are crafted from about half Merino wool and half synthetic fabric, they are breathable yet stretchy, which is key for runners. Light cushioning maximizes comfort and support in the arch of your foot, while keeping its thin profile. The ankle height works well for running shoes or low hiking shoes. We appreciated that our feet didn't feel sweaty, even on longer runs, thanks to their moisture-wicking properties. They've also held up over time, staying true to their size after several washes, with no shrinking or stretching evident. The material is super soft and breathable, and it kept our feet dry and odor-free. Made from a blend of wool, cashmere, and synthetic fabrics, we found them to be exceptionally soft and breathable, making them ideal for a cozy day at home in pajamas. We did notice small signs of pilling and some stretching out after a couple of washes, making them more appropriate for casual lounge wear. We think these would be the perfect pair of socks to slip on during a long-haul flight when you want a touch of coziness and luxury. The fit was superior, and we found them to have fantastic breathability with impressive odor control. While these socks are very thin, their standout feature is their ability to stay in place, so you don't have to keep pulling them up. This is thanks to the sticky grip on the back of the sock that worked effectively during our real-world testing. We appreciated the reinforced toe, which should help with their longevity. Combined with their moisture-wicking capability as well, these proved to be the perfect pair of discreet socks to wear with comfy flats to slip-on sneakers. During our tests, we noted that they run large, so you may want to size down. We wore them for everything from commuting to hiking or biking, and they performed well. During our tests, we found that they were durable with high-quality construction that maintained their shape even after several washes. We liked the fit and appreciated that they stayed up. While they are more suitable for colder temperatures, we found them to be breathable, and they didn't leave our feet sweaty. They offer some support in the ankle and arch, and the wool fabric didn't pill or shed. Four pairs of good socks, of course. We found the Bombas Merino Wool Blend Quarter Sock 4-pack to be comfortable and true to size, with a snug enough fit to stay up and prevent bunching. They are great for lounging or as an everyday sock, and have great moisture-wicking capabilities. During our tests, we found them to be breathable despite being on the slightly thicker and warmer side. They feel high quality despite showing signs of wear after washing them multiple times, though it didn't affect their functionality. During our tests, Fox found these hiking socks to be an ideal height, coming over the top of her hiking boots without being too tall. She appreciated how soft the fabric felt, with ample cushioning and insulation. On her hikes, Fox noticed that they stayed in place and didn't experience any hotspots or uncomfortable seams. Though she didn't find them to be as breathable as other models, Fox still didn't end up with sweaty feet or odor after use. Even after hiking in them for a year, they remain durable and high quality with no holes or fraying. Designer Caroline Zimbalist pushes fashion boundaries

At her kitchen stove, fashion designer Caroline Zimbalist looks like an alchemist at work as she stirs a pot full of corn starch and a thickener made from seaweed. The peppermint-scented mixture glitters as she carefully pours it into silicone molds of hearts and leaves. When the material hardens, Zimbalist will stitch it into unique, made-to-order dresses that she sells on her website. She hopes her designs, which have been worn by celebrities including Chappell Roan, will put a spotlight on materials that aren't sourced from planet-polluting fossil fuels, such as oil. 'It's almost like a vessel to show the world,' she said. Other small-scale designers are testing out tapioca, gelatin and other kitchen-shelf ingredients. Meanwhile, big names such as Adidas and Hermes have experimented with mushroom leather, while the Lycra brand is incorporating a new largely corn-based material into stretch fabric. Some experts are skeptical that these textiles — commonly referred to as biomaterials — will go mainstream, but designers such as Zimbalist hope their experiments will set an example for larger brands to follow. Over 60% of clothing comes from petroleum-based synthetics like polyester, according to Textile Exchange, a nonprofit that promotes sustainable fashion. Manufacturing those materials creates emissions. Synthetic garments can also shed microplastics during washing. And as fast-fashion brands pump out new clothes for customers who expect new designs every few weeks, many garments end up in landfills. A piece by fashion designer Caroline Zimbalist is displayed in the Queens borough of New York. Photos: Associated Press Zimbalist's designs gained attention in 2024 when Roan wore one on 'The Tonight Show.' The New York-based designer has since dressed stars such as comedian Atsuko Okatsuka and actors Anna Lore and Reneé Rapp. She takes commissions for custom clothing pieces, which cost between $150 and $1,200, via her website, which notes her 'unique recipe of biodegradable and natural materials.' As to whether her approach could be reproduced at a larger scale, Zimbalist says her materials could most practically be used to replace plastic hardware such as buttons and zippers. She acknowledges they can be sticky if not dried correctly, stinky if not treated and melty if exposed to extreme heat. 'Even incorporating it in small ways to start would be really strong,' she said. Fossil-fuel derived fabrics are ubiquitous because they're cheap and made from plentiful raw materials, said Dale Rogers, an Arizona State University professor who studies supply chains. Many clothes are also made of materials that come from plants or animals such as cotton, silk, wool and cashmere. But some have environmental impacts. Cotton uses a lot of water. Sheep and goats burp out methane. Some biomaterials have gotten closer to widespread use. Mycelium leather, made from mushrooms, has been used to create luxury shoes, accessories and handbags by brands such as Stella McCartney, Lululemon, Adidas and Hermes. Still, Rogers said he's not convinced there's enough demand for alternative materials to overcome companies' aversion to the higher costs of producing them at a large scale. 'Honestly, in the end, cost drives almost all decisions,' he said. Getting larger companies to use alternative materials depends on whether they will pay more for a fabric that matches their values, said Jon Veldhouse, the CEO of Qore LLC. His company makes a product called Qira that replaces about 70% of the fossil-derived components of elastic synthetic fabrics with a corn-based material. The Lycra Company, which sells its stretchy material to major brands, initially expects to incorporate Qira in around 25 percent of its Spandex business, said Lycra chief brand and innovation officer Steve Stewart. But that option will be more expensive, and they haven't yet announced any takers. It can also be hard to measure the sustainability of farming practices that go into producing raw materials for new fabrics. Cargill is Qore's partner and corn supplier, and it gets its grain from farmers in the vicinity of their processing plant. Veldhouse said many already plant cover crops or reduce tilling to lower environmental impact, but he couldn't provide data on how many use those approaches. Associated Press

Spectator Competition: Some like it hot

For Competition 3408 you were invited to write poems about heatwaves. This comp was inspired by the weather! In the face of lethargy, rage, sleeplessness etc lots of you still managed to put fingers to keyboard with good results. It was almost too hot to choose, but the £25 vouchers go to the following. Long drag the days of lop, of laze, Of no precipitation, Bar slathered factor fifty glaze On perspiration. And long the nights; too hot, still light, Fans faintly stirring stifle While outside, drunks ferment a fight Of some mere trifle. Long seems the spell, Heaven or Hell, When England's tropic. Waters run short, tempers as well, Heat's misanthropic. The wave will break; cloudburst, rain slake. Upon our sudden wetting, We'll eulogise that fearsome bake And start forgetting. Adrian Fry When the mercury rises unfeasibly high And the great yellow disc beats down from the sky It's time to enjoy our great national sport: Laughing at folk wearing less than they ought. Manual workers are the first to give way, Shedding their garments as if at Saint Tropez, But at least their muscles are tight as a drum (Barring the occasional gross 'builder's bum'). For others, alas, the effect is less fine: Tubbies in tight tops, like beef tied with twine, Others whose limbs are as pale as a ghost Suddenly ungarbed for their annual roast; And don't get me started on gentlemen's shorts (Bermudas and Lycra and Speedos, of course) – They're fine on the beach or when chasing a ball, But in town or at work? Prison for all! Joseph Houlihan It is too hot! I'd rather not. Could you just wipe my brow? I think I'll miss, for once, the kiss. Hosepipe needed now! I know you vowed to stick by me, But did you mean it literally? Excuse the drip, While I skip the chance to hold your hand. But when there's rain To cool my brain, I'll love you once again. Averell Kingston I am the Prince of Darkness, so I sought a winter break, But now I'm grilled from head to hoof, A well-done fillet steak, My tail is singed, my horns are burnt. Too hot? The heatwave's pelted! It's oven-scorching, off the charts, I bought a fan. It melted. I'm aircon-less, my sorbets run, My salads wilt and sizzle, You couldn't plant a cactus here, The soil requires a chisel. I'm no Dante, infernos suck, A desert can't be crueller, I won't stick this for forty days, I'm off to Hell. It's cooler. Janine Beacham Yes, I'll remember '25 – The heat, the sweltering days and nights Of sweat and fever-dreams and thirst, Relentlessly. The insect bites. The grass scorched. Wildfires made the news. No one slept and no one rose Refreshed at dawn and how we felt Was permanently comatose From headlines crying the old would die, And stale old tips on keeping cool, and nothing there to ease the strain except the far niente rule. And in that moment all the world stared at the one truth that endures, hotter and hotter, future years of ever-rising temperatures. D.A. Prince Dog days, every one a scorcher, Useless if you're lily-white, Cause of heat-rash, perfect torture, Hateful to Pre-Raphaelite – Why not buy a simple sun-bed If you must top up your tan? – Heatwaves only suit the undead, Or addicts of the hosepipe ban. Houses burn, and reservoirs Vanish in a nasty twinkling: Drink, but not in local bars – Watch out for your pink skin wrinkling. Heatwaves, pace The Vandellas, Aren't like love. They cause more pain – Let some air into your cellar. Hug the dark, and pray for rain. Bill Greenwell The summer is more like a Mexican wave. The heat wave is there but it comes and it goes. It stands up and hands us the sun that we crave, but it's too hot to sleep or to wear any clothes. Then a day or two later the clouds give us rain. The daylight is grey and the temperature down. It's good for the garden, yet still we complain that the summer is over, we shiver and frown. Until the next week when we swelter and sweat. The tarmac is steaming, the air is too hot, it's up in the thirties, we bake and regret that we wanted the heat, but the heat's what we've got. Then the clouds roll back in and it's cool once again, and it's such a relief, but the heat will soon rise and it's thirty degrees and it's all inhumane. Don't worry, next week we'll have overcast skies. Helen Baty No. 3411: popular demand You are invited to submit a poem or passage about surge pricing (16 lines/150 words maximum).
