CPM accuses PM Modi of using Operation Sindoor for political mileage, warns against US role in ceasefire

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP of using Operation Sindoor for political gain. The party said the Prime Minister's speeches during the election campaign in Bihar and West Bengal clearly showed how the military operation was used to seek votes. In a statement after the first meeting of its newly formed Central Committee, the CPM said it would hold a week-long campaign in June against terrorism and efforts to spread communal hatred, citing the Pahalgam terrorist attack. CPM general secretary M A Baby said on Sunday that a high-level party delegation will visit Srinagar next week in response to the attack on tourists in Pahalgam. The delegation, led by M A Baby, will visit Kashmir on June 10 and 11. Several party MPs will join the visit, including Amra Ram, K Radhakrishnan, Su Venkatesan, John Brittas, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya, and A A Rahim. The party criticised the central government for claiming normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 and the removal of the region's special status. The CPM said this claim has been proven wrong by recent incidents and has resulted in major security failures. The statement said those responsible for the Pahalgam attack have been identified but not yet caught. It said accountability must be fixed. 'The first lesson in combating terrorism is to build people's unity, strengthen necessary security measures, plug all loopholes and protect peoples' lives,' the Committee said.

CPI(M)'s MA Baby urges PM Modi to convene special Parliament session on de-escalation of hostilities with Pakistan

New Delhi [India], May 12 (ANI): Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary MA Baby on Monday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene a special session of Parliament to address the de-escalation of hostilities with Pakistan. CPI(M) General Secretary MA Baby, in a letter to PM Modi, said, 'I am writing to you in light of recent developments concerning the de-escalation of tensions and the announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. This announcement has brought a sense of relief to all sections of our nation, as well as to the peace-loving international community. However, several pressing concerns remain unaddressed, particularly regarding the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.' MA Baby stated that the US President's premature 'ceasefire announcement,' made before any Indian official statement, has raised serious concerns and requires clarification from the highest levels of the government. 'Additionally, the announcement by the President of the United States regarding the ceasefire, made prior to any official statement from our representatives, has raised serious concerns. It is an avowedly accepted policy of our country that we settle our disputes bilaterally, without allowing any third-party intervention. Therefore, this situation requires clear and authoritative clarification from the highest levels of our government,' he added CPI(M) General Secretary MA Baby has urged Prime Minister Modi to convene a special session of the Parliament, as already requested by the floor leaders of the CPI(M), and requested his personal participation in clarifying the government's position. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 to strike multiple terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir after a deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam last month in which 26 tourists were killed. In addition to eliminating over 100 terrorists, the strikes targeted 11 Air bases inside Pakistan and inflicted significant damage on their military capabilities. The air, land and sea operations were carried out with calibrated restraint, with an emphasis on minimising civilian casualties. This operation was a retaliatory response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians, including one Nepali national, were killed. On Saturday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart. The two sides agreed to halt all military actions, on land, at sea, and in the air, effective from 5 pm. Misri noted that instructions have been issued to enforce the ceasefire. However, hours after both countries agreed to stop all firing and military action on land, in the air, and sea, reports came of Pakistan violating the cessation of hostilities with India's air defence intercepting Pakistani drones amid a blackout in Srinagar. At a special briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said India takes 'very serious note of these violations'. India called upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility. (ANI)

Baby: CPM plans to regain lost ground in Tripura, WB

1 2 Agartala: CPM general secretary MA Baby announced his party's plan to recapture its traditional strongholds in Tripura and West Bengal, which have been suffering from alleged lawlessness under the rule of BJP and Trinamool came here to address the first meeting of the newly constituted CPM state committee in Tripura on Sunday and reviewed the party's activity, political situation and future plan with the leaders. Talking to the media, Baby said CPM's strategic focus is on revitalising its influence in two states while uniting secular and democratic forces ahead of crucial upcoming elections, starting with Bihar. He added, "Our priority is to reclaim the political ground we've lost in Tripura and West Bengal."Baby said the party has been mobilising workers, addressing local grievances and countering the saffron narrative. "We are committed to rebuilding trust and reconnecting with the people," he added, signaling a renewed focus on voter outreach .He launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led govt in Tripura, accusing it of fostering an undemocratic environment and the opposition supporters have been facing physical attacks and atrocities. The people in general are finding it very hard to get work here. Mass migration of people in search of work is a reality in Tripura, he said. The saffron brigade resorted to a "reign of terror" in Tripura to suppress public dissent, Baby said.

CPM's M A Baby says Centre should explain American role in ceasefire: ‘US president is behaving as if he is president of the world'

In a sharp critique of US intervention in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, CPM general secretary M A Baby said on Sunday the central government should explain how Donald Trump first announced the cessation of hostilities that began with India's Operation Sindoor military action against terrorism. 'The position that our party has been taking is third-party intervention on bilateral problems is uncalled for. Bilateral problems have to be bilaterally resolved,' Baby, who attended a meeting of the CPM's Tripura state committee in Agartala, told reporters. 'The Government of India also used to maintain the position that internationalising our domestic problems or problems with our neighbours is unacceptable. We would deal with problems with our neighbours in a mutually agreeable manner through negotiations. De-escalation is taking place at different places. The Government of India has to explain as to how the President of USA has made the announcement first,' he said. Bay also cited a previous comment by US Vice-President J D Vance that America didn't want to interfere in the India-Pakistan border tensions and that the matter should be settled by the two countries. 'The US president is behaving as if he is the president of the world, which is unacceptable,' the CPM chief said. Baby also pointed to the foreign secretary's statement that the ceasefire was agreed on after Pakistan's director-general of military operations (DGMO) called his Indian counterpart, adding that this was at variance with Trump's claim. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manik Saha said that India's fight against terrorists and terrorism would continue despite the ceasefire. Reacting to Pakistan's violation of the ceasefire hours after it was announced, Saha said, 'Yes, I have also noticed. Ultimately, they (Pakistan) have withdrawn. Let's see what they do in future'. The ceasefire with US intervention has prompted questions from within the BJP-led ruling alliance in Tripura as well. TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore wrote on social media, 'Only time will decide if we should always listen to USA when it comes to mediation. There was no such hurry for mediation by the USA when Hamas/Israel war broke out. Regardless, we are proud of our forces and will always stand with our Government when a war-like situation arises. I hope we don't let the Indus water flow like it used to be before to Pakistan. We are Proud Indians and we stand with our nation'.
