On reaching the city, they tried to reach Sathish Kumar's younger brother by phone, but he did not answer their call. The four who were under the influence of alcohol, were then roaming at the railway station. A while later they walked at least 30 metres away from the station to relieve themselves. They suddenly threw stones at the signal box and went on to place large boulders on the track. The incident came to light when railway authorities checked after they did not receive signal from the box, prompting them to stop the Cheran express train for a while on Saturday night. Officials promptly removed four large boulders from the track and rectified the signal box. The four accused were identified through CCTV camera footage and subsequently arrested from the station premises. They were remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
