Talking to reporters after a party meeting here on Wednesday, he said there was inadequate political representation of Muslims. Of the 776 seats in the Parliament, only 39 are occupied by Muslims. Of 4,123 MLAs across the country, only 296 are Muslims. There is also inadequate political representation for Muslims in the local bodies. He also said that the Waqf (Amendment) Act should be repealed as it takes away the right of the Waqf Board.
On Union home minister Amit Shah's criticism of the DMK govt for not fulfilling its election promises, Jawahirullah said that the state govt implemented many schemes for the public welfare and Amit Shah had no right to criticise the DMK govt.
