Co-Production Salon returns to MIPCOM Cannes for second year

Co-Production Salon will debut the 2025 MENA Co-Production Guidebook, host curated in-person and virtual networking sessions, and launch a year-round Virtual Networking Lounge to connect Arabic producers with global partners and showcase key industry insights and projects. Co-Production Salon, a platform dedicated to nurturing co-production partnerships and investment channels involving the Arab world, is set to return to MIPCOM Cannes for the second year in a row. Scheduled to run from October 13 to 16, 2025, at the Palais des Festivals, the initiative will feature an upgraded presence at the MIP Creative Hub, strategically positioned along the Cannes beachfront. The event underscores Co-Production Salon's growing role in linking Arabic content creators and investors with international distributors, broadcasters, and financiers to develop globally marketable content. Heba Korayem, Founder of Co-Production Salon, said: 'CoProduction Salon was created to bridge worlds — bringing Arabic production houses and investors together with international partners to create meaningful, marketable content. MIPCOM gives us the stage to make more of those connections happen.' A recent Omdia report predicts the region's VOD market will grow fivefold to reach $8.4bn by 2029, while Parrot Analytics data points to a dramatic rise in demand for Arabic content — up 400% in Saudi Arabia, 300% in Morocco, and 200% in Iraq since 2020. Since its inception, Co-Production Salon has facilitated over $12m in partnership deals. For 2025, the platform is introducing several new initiatives aimed at deepening engagement and insight. These include the launch of the MENA Co-Production Guidebook (2025 Edition), offering in-depth analysis of market trends and investment opportunities, and a Networking Power Hour, designed to foster real-time, curated meetings between Arabic and international stakeholders. Additionally, a Virtual Networking Lounge will provide continuous access to industry data, professional connections, and project highlights throughout the year. The initiative invites participation from a wide array of industry players, from production companies and distributors to investors, broadcasters, OTT platforms, and advertising agencies, all seeking to tap into one of the fastest-growing, youth-driven content markets in the world. Participants will gain access to premium projects, vetted partnerships, and curated networking opportunities. The Virtual Lounge already features over 200 verified profiles from top-tier MENA content entities, including Saudi Broadcast Authority, Thamaniya, Sadaf Media Production, Rise Studios, Cedars Art and Pixitoon. The physical lounge at MIPCOM will serve as a key venue for face-to-face engagement with these and other leading industry names. With its enhanced presence and expanded programming, Co-Production Salon is positioning itself as a central force in the internationalisation of Arabic content. Visitors can connect with the team at PALAIS C12 HUB 6, explore ongoing projects, or join high-level networking events at MIPCOM. 'Our goal is to make those partnerships not just possible but profitable,' added Heba Korayem.

Globalsphere Studios and Shemaroo kick off production on Turkish drama ‘Bitter Justice'

With a story by Hakan Alak, Bitter Justice also sees Nöbetçi Yapım reprise their production role in their second collaboration with Globalsphere Studios Globalsphere Studios, the joint venture helmed by MediaHub's Kerim Emrah Turna and Geophil's Robin Philip, has commenced production on its second original Turkish series, Aşka Mahkum (Bitter Justice), in collaboration with India's Shemaroo Entertainment. The launch of Bitter Justice follows the success of Globalsphere's debut drama Alaca, which premiered in 2024 with a 45×120-minute format and achieved significant viewership across Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. Continuing its mission to fuse authentic Turkish storytelling with global commercial appeal, Globalsphere is strengthening its slate of high-quality drama productions with this latest title. Set to premiere at MIPCOM 2025 with an exclusive first-look screening for international buyers and partners, Bitter Justice tells a story of power, vengeance and redemption. The plot centres around a tragic construction site accident that leaves the wife of influential businessman Noyan Demir critically injured and causes the loss of their unborn child. Holding the site's safety officer Memduh responsible, Noyan demands retribution by forcing Memduh's daughter, Dünya, into servitude in his home. As Dünya quietly battles against injustice, she discovers her inner resilience and an unexpected ally, leading a powerful journey of resistance and self-reclamation. The series delves into the far-reaching impact of corruption and the quiet strength of a woman taking control of her fate. The show, created by Hakan Alak, sees the return of production company Nöbetçi Yapım, who previously partnered with Globalsphere on Alaca. Alak also co-directs the series with Tuğba Alkın, while Eliz Arkayın-Ungan steps in as showrunner. In a joint statement, Kerim Emrah Turna and Robin Philip said: 'Our vision for Globalsphere Studios is to bring compelling Turkish stories to the screen that deeply resonate with global audiences while delivering meaningful value and strong ROI to our partners. After Alaca's international success, Bitter Justice marks the next step in building a standout slate of originals with broad market appeal and long-term brand equity.'

YouTube Heading to MIPCOM as TV Market Embraces Creator Economy

In what amounts to a coronation of the video-sharing platform by the international television industry, YouTube will be given pride of place at the 41st MIPCOM, the global TV trade fair, which runs in Cannes from Oct. 13 to 16. The Google-owned outfit will be everywhere at this year's TV market: Pedro Pina, vp YouTube for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will be giving a MIPCOM headliner keynote; there will be a branded YouTube Space hospitality location in the Cannes Palais; and the company will host multiple professional workshops and events at MIPCOM and the kids-focused MIP Junior market (which runs Oct.11-12). 'It's a strategic move to bolster our international TV collaborations and demonstrate YouTube's role in supporting media companies amidst evolving content consumption.' YouTube arrives at MIPCOM having already conquered TV. The service accounted for 12.8 percent of all TV viewing in the U.S. in June, according to Nielsen's most recent figures, compared to 8.3 percent for Netflix. For the first time since Nielsen began tracking TV use by platform four years ago, over-the-air broadcast networks accounted for less than 20 percent of total viewing, just 18.5 percent. Ad dollars are following the same trend, with media buying giant WPP Media forecasting that this year, more than half of all content-driven ad dollars will go to creator-driven platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. Pina said the cooperation with MIPCOM was 'a strategic move to bolster our international TV collaborations and demonstrate YouTube's role in supporting media companies amidst evolving content consumption.' MIPCOM is broadening its focus to embrace YouTube's 'creator economy,' in an attempt to position itself as a hub where online video and traditional TV meet. As part of this, the market this year will host the first-ever international edition of BrandStorytelling, a global version of the brand-funded programming summit held at Sundance every year, which will run Oct. 13-14. And the market is rebranding its producers hub, the co-production and co-financing center, the MIP creative hub. 'This is where the industry is,' said MIPCOM Cannes director Lucy Smith, 'and as the largest global television and streaming content market, MIPCOM Cannes is uniquely positioned to create the global platform each October in Cannes which brings together content creators, digital studios, platforms and brands with the biggest names in television and streaming entertainment from around the world.'
