Mookie Betts has a playoff soundtrack infused with ‘the relaxing vibe of the beach'

The announcement could not have been more unfortunately timed. On the morning after the Dodgers had been swept by the Angels and fallen out of first place in the National League West for the first time in 108 days, the email to media members started this way: 'Ever wonder how a player like Mookie Betts gets in the zone for the MLB Postseason?' This is not on Betts, not at all. He is simply the front man for a campaign in which Corona Beer and its advertising partners had pre-timed an otherwise harmless press release for 6 a.m. PT Thursday. The headline on the press release: 'Corona Teams Up with Mookie Betts to Bring the Beach to the Ballpark Through a First-of-its-Kind Soundtrack for the MLB Postseason.' One of the keys to Betts' success: an even keel that sometimes frustrates fans who want every player on their team to be as visibly frustrated as they are. In the aftermath of the Angels' sweep, this is what Betts said Wednesday night: 'It is what it is. Can't change it right now.' The promotional photo distributed with the press release shows Betts relaxing on a beach towel, next to home plate, headphones on. The soundtrack 'fuses the iconic sounds of the ballpark with the relaxing vibe of the beach.' Betts helped to pick seven minutes and 54 seconds of 'home run blasts, in-stadium crowd waves and announcer calls from his most memorable postseason moments ... combined with ambient ocean breezes and crashing waves.' You can hear the soundtrack here. From the press release: 'The entire mix is tuned at 432hz — a frequency commonly associated with enhanced clarity.' 'As a player, you need to be in the right head space to show up when the lights are brightest,' Betts said in the press release. 'I worked with Corona to make sure this soundtrack accurately captures the energy of the postseason and channels that into something both the guys in the dugout and fans can use to prepare for the season's biggest upcoming moments.' In last year's postseason, Betts batted .290, hitting four home runs and scoring 14 runs in 16 games. After the World Series, on an episode of his podcast, he and several teammates broke down the Dodgers' championship run, including a discussion of the New York Yankees' fundamental flaws in the World Series.

Mets, Padres urged to make Luis Robert Jr. trade

The post Mets, Padres urged to make Luis Robert Jr. trade appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Mets and San Diego Padres are teams vying to make a World Series appearance this season. Both teams lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2024 MLB Postseason and are trying to improve their lineup to make another run this time around. Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. is a player to keep an eye on ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. There is quite literally no point in the White Sox keeping him on the roster, and a change of scenery is best for both sides. The Mets and Padres are two teams who could make a move for the outfielder, and according to ESPN, are urged to do so. Robert Jr. is not having a good season with the White Sox, but he has the potential to be a very good player. Injuries have taken over his career, and he has yet to really play a full season in the majors. In 2023, he played 145 games, which is the most in his career by a ton. The only other time he played at least 100 games was last season in their historically terrible campaign. This year, Robert Jr. is batting just .177 with five home runs and 24 RBIs. His Slugging Percentage is just .281, and he has a WAR of -0.1. He desperately needs a change of scenery. The Cuba native could be a great fit for the Padres. Bradford Doolittle of ESPN broke it down: 'The Padres have rolled out a motley collection of non-producers in left field, which has yielded them an overall slash line of .200/.248/.286 with four homers at the position. Upgrade opportunity! Luis Robert Jr. might work if the Padres are convinced he has nowhere to go but up, as his .546 OPS is barely above that of the Padres' left fielders. However, A.J. Preller handles it, San Diego can't leave this hole unfilled.' As for the Mets, they need a center fielder. Doolittle thinks Robert Jr. could be a good fit for them, and he would play on the East Coast closer to home. 'Center is an obvious position of need for New York, which seems like a great landing spot for Luis Robert Jr.' It's unclear if the White Sox are motivated to want to move him right now, so closer to the deadline makes more sense. For now, the Padres aim to even the series against the Dodgers on Tuesday, and the Mets begin a series against the Washington Nationals. Chiefs DE George Karlaftis to throw first pitch at Jac Caglianone's Kauffman Stadium debut

Chiefs DE George Karlaftis to throw first pitch at Jac Caglianone's Kauffman Stadium debut The Kansas City Chiefs will be well represented at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday, June 10. According to Matt Foster of KSHB 41 News, star defensive end George Karlaftis is set to throw out the first pitch at the Kansas City Royals' series opener against the New York Yankees. Though the Royals and Yankees aren't typically considered rivals, Kansas City was defeated by New York in the American League Division Series of the 2024 MLB Postseason, so it wouldn't be a stretch to think that the teams may get chippy. Tomorrow's game will be notable for Kansas City's fans because Royals rookie Jac Caglianone — one of MLB's most promising young sluggers — is set to make his home debut against New York in the evening matchup. Karlaftis should be expected to bring a unique enthusiasm to the baseball diamond during his first pitch, and his raucous attitude is sure to be a benefit for Royals players when he cheers the team on from the grandstands.
