Former Commanders Rival Sounds an Alarm
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. As far as the Washington Commanders faithful are concerned, there may not be a more evil entity than anything connected to the Dallas Cowboys. Former players and coaches make the skin crawl. It's nearly impossible to watch Monday Night Football because one has to listen to Troy Aikman's voice and be irritated by what he is saying. Alternate viewing methods for MNF aren't particularly helpful either. A ManningCast airs on ESPN2, which means innocent Commanders fans must subject themselves to a broadcast manned in part by Eli Manning. Perhaps it's possible to place either broadcast on mute, find Bram Weinstein's radio call, and try to sync the sound and visual? More news: Commanders Release Statement on Historic Deal to Relocate to RFK Campus Two-time Commanders rival issues a stern warning It's been a rough go, but the dark clouds seem to be lifting off of this franchise. Washington has qualified for the postseason six times since the Y2K scare but hasn't been able to add a fourth Lombardi Trophy to the display case. Hope has come in the form of Josh Harris, Adam Peters, Dan Quinn, and Jayden Daniels. A phenomenal run last season that unfortunately ended during the NFC Championship Game has the Commanders faithful hoping for more. To Washington's credit, they didn't sit on their hands. They added Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel by way of trades, and a former Commanders rival believes that should send shockwaves through the NFL if it hasn't already. More news: NFL Insider Gives Positive Update on Commanders Star's OTA Absence As stated earlier, there may not be anything more detestable to the Commanders' faithful than former Cowboys. Then again, being a former Cowboy AND Giant might actually be worse. Favor may fall on Isaiah Stanback, however, he recently offered a theory that the DMV may see as being acceptable. During a recent airing on NFL Network's Good Morning Football, he put the NFL on notice. .@IamSTANBACK believes that @19problemz is primed to have "one heck of a season" with the @Commanders in 2025 👀 — NFL Network (@nflnetwork) June 2, 2025 Stanback spent his first two seasons at the professional level with the Dallas Cowboys before stops with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks led him to the Giants organization. He'd win a Super Bowl as part of Big Blue's practice squad before finishing his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. His recent theory makes a ton of sense. Jayden is accurate and plays well beyond his years, and yes, Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel are sure to provide fireworks as a one-two punch. Zach Ertz still has some gas in the tank. Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler join Daniels in the backfield. More news: Best and Worst Picks for Every NFC East Team in NFL Draft If Daniels continues his upswing and Deebo returns to form after an injury-plagued 2025 NFL season, there's no telling how good the Commanders can be. For the first time in a long time, winning that fourth Lombardi Trophy and the sixth championship overall seems like a reasonable ask for a proud franchise.

Commanders Schedule Threatens Jayden Sophomore Slump with NFC East Sandwich
It's not an understatement to say that Jayden Daniels' impact on the Washington Commanders last year was one of the more staggering of any rookie quarterback in league history. Daniels became the start of a team that won just four games in 2023, and led the organization all the way to the conference title game for the first time in over 30 years. Advertisement That doesn't just happen. The Commanders have a special signal-caller on their roster. But as great as Daniels was in 2024, there is some looming concern. The famous "sophomore slump" has hurt many promising rookies going into their second year in the league as teams make adjustments. Let's take a look at the slate ... W1: Giants W2: @ Packers (TNF) W3: Raiders W4: @ Falcons W5: @ Chargers (4:25) W6: Bears (MNF) W7: @ Cowboys (4:25) W8: @ Chiefs (MNF) W9: Seahawks (SNF) W10: Lions (4:25) W11: @ Dolphins (Madrid) W12: BYE W13: Broncos (SNF) W14: @ Vikings W15: @ Giants W16: Eagles (Saturday) W17: Cowboys (Christmas Day) Advertisement W18: @ Eagles (TBD) Is there a sophomore slump in there? Well, there is darn sure a problematic stretch or two. ... maybe most notably in crunch time of the season. Check out the season-ending NFC East Sandwich. ... Philly, Dallas, Philly. Washington has brought plenty of talent into the roster to make sure their franchise quarterback does not go through that famous slump. With so much talent on the roster, it doesn't appear Daniels is in any danger yet. But that Sandwich awaits. Travis Hunter a big reason why Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Chiefs is on Monday Night Football
Travis Hunter will be showcased this season, especially when the Jacksonville Jaguars face the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football. Despite finishing the season with the fifth-worst record (by draft order), Jacksonville was not among the three teams not to receive a prime-time game (Thursday, Sunday or Monday Night Football). The Tennessee Titans, New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns each do not have a prime-time game. Advertisement Tennessee picked first, while the Saints and Browns picked behind the Jaguars after finishing with a better record last season. SEASON RECORD PREDICTION: Jacksonville Jaguars 2025 game-by-game predictions following schedule release So, why would the NFL schedule a Monday Night Football game for Jacksonville a year after they looked uncompetitive in a 47-10 MNF game against the Bills last year? In part, because of Hunter, NFL executives told members of the media during a post-NFL schedule release conference call. Travis Hunter plays role in Jaguars landing MNF game vs. Chiefs JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA - MAY 10: Travis Hunter #12 of the Jacksonville Jaguars looks on during Jacksonville Jaguars Rookie Minicamp at Miller Electric Center on May 10, 2025 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by) Many speculated in the immediate aftermath of Jacksonville's move to acquire Hunter that the franchise would receive a bit of an interest hike due to Hunter's national and global popularity. Advertisement Hunter has more than 500,000 subscribers on YouTube and more than 100,000 followers on Twitch, making him one of the most popular players in the league already. For the Jaguars, that gave the NFL an extra push to place them in prime time early in the season. "I think we kind of saw a mix of games coming up across the prime-time schedule. We started to see the Kansas City-Jacksonville game land very frequently on Monday Night Football. We saw it landing fairly early in the season, and we really like that," NFL vice president, broadcast Onnie Bose said Thursday when asked about the league's thought process. The NFL schedule release date has changed from pre-draft to post-draft in the last couple of years. In 2019, for instance, the NFL schedule was released on April 17, about a week before the 2019 NFL Draft. If the schedule had been released pre-draft, the league may not have anticipated Hunter to in Jacksonville. Advertisement "That is a benefit of the shift of this timeline and the schedule now coming out, really in two, now three weeks after the draft and post-draft, we were seeing that game there. And we really liked the idea of, you know, a few games under his belt and getting a prime-time appearance against the Chiefs," Bose explained. Hunter will have played in four games ahead of the team's Week 5 matchup against the Chiefs. Jacksonville's early philosophy with Hunter's play-time percentage when it comes to offense and defense remains to be seen, but the team is allowing him to learn both sides of the football and anticipates him playing that way throughout the year. The Jaguars began that process earlier this month during rookie minicamp when Hunter stuck to the offensive side of the ball, giving him a chance to first learn the NFL nuances that come with playing receiver. He will play on the defensive side of the football when the team begins Organized Team Activities next week. Hunter has a chance to become the first player since Chuck Bednarik to play full-time on both sides of the ball. Bednarik played center and linebacker for the Eagles from 1949 to 1962. Advertisement It's been so long since a player has done it that Hunter, who was born in 2003, won the Chuck Bednarik Award, given to the nation's top defender, last year. Now, he has a chance to become one of the most popular players in football and he's already helped — at least in part — land Jacksonville, and himself, a moment in the spotlight. "So, there absolutely was a role in terms of something that we were seeing in the overall jigsaw puzzle and liked where it was landing and felt good about it. It was not necessarily a determinant or driving factor. But, as we look at the overall schedule, it is a game we point to and feel like that's a great showcase opportunity, both for Travis himself and the Jaguars," Bose said. Robert Griffin III Claps Back At Ryan Clark Following Comments About His Love For 'Milk' aka White Women
Source: Getty Images / Ryan Clark / Robert Griffin III Robert Griffin III was not feeling what Ryan Clark had to say about his marriages to white women. Fox Sports analyst Robert Griffin III had time for ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark after the latter called him out on Monday's recent episode of The Pivot . Clark didn't mince words when talking RGIII's ridiculous hot take following the altercation between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese during Saturday's matchup between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky. In his defense of Reese, a Black woman, Clark made sure to point out Robert Griffin III's love of milk, aka his marriages to two white women. 'When RG3 jumps onto the hate train or the angry train, it now follows what we saw from Keith Olbermann, what we saw from Dave Portnoy, as they poured onto Angel Reese to make her the villain, and Caitlin Clark heroic or hero story,' Clark said. 'The one thing we know about RG3 is he's not having conversations at his home about what Black women have to endure in this country. About what young Black women and athletes like Angel Reese have had to deal with, being on the opposite side of Caitlin Clark's rise and ascension into stardom. 'If you're RG3, when is the last time within your household you've had a conversation about what [Angel Reese is] dealing with?' Clark continued. 'You haven't been able to do that because in both of your marriages, you've been married to white women.' RGIII didn't appreciate those comments and used his platform to respond to Clark, writing in the caption for the post on X, 'There's a line you don't cross in life, and Ryan Clark sprinted past it. Following RGIII's long video response, Ryan Clark immediately responded, calling his former colleague 'corny' and a 'bad teammate,' pretty much confirming there has been some longtime bad blood between the two former NFL players Bruh you know what it is with me and you! I saved you the entire season on MNF. I urged people to let you be you. No matter how corny, how bad a teammate you were I had your back. What did you do? Invite someone on your show you know I don't fool with to ask questions about me, and then hit me weeks later to tell me you're gonna challenge one of my takes! You're a phony bro. One of the worst teammates I ever had both on the field and in TV. You gotta do what you gotta do. Bruh. Social media has pulled up a seat for the shenanigans; you can see those reactions in the gallery below. Ryan Clark-RG3 feud over Angel Reese explodes with reference to QB's interracial marriage
ESPN analyst Ryan Clark and Fox Sports analyst Robert Griffin III's public feud about WNBA stars Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark is no longer about basketball. The discourse between the former ESPN colleagues started over the Fever-Sky game on Saturday when Clark was called for a flagrant foul on Reese in the third quarter. Griffin, who reacted in a video on X with his wife Grete Griffin sitting in the background, said that he believed Reese 'hated' Caitlin Clark, and that's why the Chicago forward yelled at the Fever star after being fouled. 6 Fox Sports analyst Robert Griffin III said ESPN's Ryan Clark made things personal by mentioning his wife, Grete. X 6 ESPN's Ryan Clark said Robert Griffin was one of the worst teammates he's ever had on the field and on TV. X In a separate video on X, Ryan Clark said Griffin was fueling a negative narrative about Reese and villainizing her — while also including race, Griffin's wife and their home life in his rebuttal. Clark, 45, and Griffin, 35, both of whom are black, were teammates with Washington in 2014; Griffin's ex-wife, Rebecca, and current wife, Grete, are both white. 'The one thing we know about RG3 is he's not having conversations at his home about what black women have to endure in this country, about what young, black women and athletes like Angel Reese have had to deal with being on the opposite side of Caitlin Clark's rise and ascension into stardom,' Ryan Clark said in a clip from his podcast. 'If you're RG3, when's the last time within your household you've had a conversation about what she's dealing with? You haven't been able to do that because in both of your marriages, you've been married to white women,' he added. 'You haven't had opportunities to have those conversations to educate you on what they're feeling, what black women deal with, what they're seeing when they think of a young Angel Reese.' 6 Robert Griffin III with his wife Grete. GreteGriffin/Instagram Griffin posted another video response and explained that Ryan Clark crossed the line by bringing his family into it and said he launched a personal attack on him and his family over a sports opinion. 'Ryan Clark personally attacking me and my family personally over a sports opinion is cowardly, spineless, and weak,' Griffin wrote. 'Ryan Clark personally attacking me and my family personally over a sports opinion is a bad look for ESPN and for him as a man.' Ryan Clark publicly stood by his remarks in a series of tweets on Sunday night — and said that Griffin was 'one of the worst teammates I ever had both on the field and in TV.' 'Bruh you know what it is with me and you! I saved you the entire season on 'MNF,'' Clark wrote. 'I urged people to let you be you. 'I didn't attack your wife. I spoke on what you do on social media and Tv. Like I said. I met your wife and she seemed like a lovely lady that was worth more than the color of her skin! You be good bruh.' 6 Grete Griffin co-hosts a podcast with the former NFL quarterback. GreteGriffin/Instagram He then added, 'In no way tripping on any of it. Know exactly who I am, what I said, why I said it, & who I said it for! I can live with everything else.' Ryan Clark and Griffin weren't the only sports analysts to publicly debate the Clark-Reese rivalry — which began during their college days when Reese and the LSU Tigers beat Clark's Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2023 NCAA title game. Many have centered their takes around theories about race, while others have said it's a narrative that's being blown out of proportion. 6 Caitlin Clark (22) fouls Angel Reese (5) during the third quarter of the Fever's win over the Sky on May 17, 2025. Reese and Fever forward Aliyah Boston both received technicals before the Fever dominated the Sky 93-58 in their home opener in Indianapolis. Caitlin Clark told ESPN's Holly Rowe that there was nothing malicious about the foul. Despite her on-court reaction, Reese downplayed it her postgame press conference and called it a good basketball play. The Fever and Sky face each other five times this season.
