MNS claims some schools in Thane violating Marathi language norm

Thane, Jul 30 (PTI) The civic education department has warned of action against schools in Thane if they violate the norm and teach Hindi as a third language to primary students. Thane City Education Officer Kamalakant Mhetre stressed that the Marathi teaching norm applies to schools affiliated with the Maharashtra board and not to CBSE-run schools. A delegation of MNS leaders called on Mhetre, claiming that some schools in Thane were still teaching Hindi in the primary section despite the government's decision to withdraw the circular on Hindi language. 'We will issue notices to schools if they are violating rules and teaching Hindi in primary classes," said Mhetre. "Dubo Dubo Ke Marenge": MNS' Toon 'Threat' To BJP Leader Amid Language Row

Mumbai: The "dubo dubo ke marenge (we will drown them)" threat from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray has now made a pictorial entry in Maharashtra in the backdrop of the language row. In Thane, MNS workers have put up a large hoarding depicting BJP Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey in water at the beach, about to be drowned. "This is how we will crush the arrogance of Hindi power on Maharashtra soil," the caption read. The man apparently responsible for the idea and its execution is Swapnil Mahendarkar, a local leader of the MNS. His name has been proudly displayed in a corner of the hoarding. Mr Dubey, who had responded to Raj Thackeray's threat with a "Marathi logon ko hum yahan patak patak ke marenge (will soundly thrash Maharashtrians here) " comment, has irked many from the state. Recently, women MPs from Maharashtra had gheraoed him outside parliament, demanding what he meant by the remark. Mr Dubey had beaten a hasty retreat, saying "Jai Maharashtra". Recently, MNS President Raj Thackeray, at a rally in Thane's Mira Road, said Nishikant Dubey will be drowned repeatedly in Mumbai's sea. The MNS, which made its niche in the state with an aggressive version of the son-of-the soil movement, has escalated the row over alleged imposition of Hindi, with Mr Thackeray himself making a series of strong comments. The MNS workers have made headlines with their multiple confrontations with people from other states who do not speak the language. Many of the confrontations have escalated to violence. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has condemned the attacks, saying violence over people not speaking Marathi is unacceptable. Raj Thackeray has said he is "proud of his soldiers".

'Dubo Dubo Ke Marenge': MNS Posters Attack BJP's Nishikant Dubey Over Hindi Remarks

Last Updated: The large posters show Dubey being drowned in the sea, with bold text that reads, 'The arrogance of enforcing Hindi will be brought down' In a fresh escalation of the language row, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers have put up provocative posters targeting BJP MP Nishikant Dubey in Thane on Wednesday. The latest poster campaign signals that the political and cultural clash over language is far from over in Maharashtra, with the MNS intensifying its rhetoric and BJP leaders facing strong backlash. The large posters show Dubey being drowned in the sea, with bold text that reads, 'The arrogance of enforcing Hindi will be brought down." Another line says, ' Dubo Dubo Ke Marenge, Maharashtra aao" (We'll drown Dubey, come to Maharashtra). This comes days after MNS chief Raj Thackeray made a strong statement at a rally in Mira Road, saying, 'Dubey will be drowned again and again in Mumbai's sea." The poster directly references this comment and adds a visual punch to the political spat. The poster has been credited to local MNS leader Swapnil Mahendarkar, whose name appears on the hoarding. The row began after Dubey reportedly said, ' Marathi logon ko hum yahan patak patak ke marenge" (We will thrash Maharashtrians here), in response to Raj Thackeray's earlier remarks. His comment drew strong criticism from across Maharashtra. Jai Maharashtra." The MNS, known for its aggressive 'sons of the soil' stand, has long opposed what it sees as the forced imposition of Hindi over regional languages. The party has previously made headlines for confrontations—sometimes violent—against people from other states who do not speak Marathi. Raj Thackeray has continued to defend his party's actions, saying he is 'proud of his soldiers." Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has condemned such incidents, stating that violence over language differences is not acceptable. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘Don't Ruin This Generation': MNS Leader Slaps Thane Gaming Zone Staff Over Students' Visits

An MNS leader allegedly slapped the staff of a gaming zone in Thane for allowing students to visit in school uniform, according to a report. MNS workers were yet again involved in an assault incident in Maharashtra; however, this time it did not pertain to the Marathi language controversy, but was linked to students inside a gaming zone in school uniform, according to a report. MNS' Thane district president, Ulhas Bhoir, was seen allegedly slapping an employee of a gaming zone in Thane in a video and threatening him not to let students enter in the school uniform. The incident comes as he was reportedly upset that some school students stole money from their parents and skipped their school to come to play in the gaming zone, NDTV reported. Bhuir claimed that some parents reached out to him at his office and complained about their children skipping school and visiting gaming zones instead. 'These children also stole money from their parents to go to the gaming zone," the outlet quoted him as saying. 'Boys come here in their school uniforms. They take money from home. They don't go to school. Isn't this wrong?," he told the employee of the gaming zone. The employee responded with, 'What can I do?". It angered the MNS leader so much so that he went on to allegedly slap him. He shouted at the employee that the children 'stole Rs 4,000 from their parents". 'Don't ruin this generation," NDTV quoted him as saying. Pointing to a student, the MNS leader said that he used to secure 95% when he was in Class 5, but that has now reduced to 60%. He also issued a 'first and last warning," saying that if children are seen in their school uniforms at the gaming zone again, it will be demolished. 'As soon as we heard the news, we came here. We have explained to them that if a student comes in their school uniform, do not let him in. This is the first and last warning," he said, the outlet reported. The latest assault came on the heels of recurrent incidents of attacks on various people who allegedly refused to speak in Marathi, dubbed as an insult to the language by the MNS leaders. view comments First Published: July 30, 2025, 08:33 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Another MNS 'Slapgate' In Thane, This Time Over Students Visiting Gamezone

Thane: Another day, another instance of assault by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers. However, this time around, it was not about language. This time, they were seen inside a gaming zone in Kalyan in Thane district, 57 km from Mumbai, and MNS district president Ulhas Bhoir was seen threatening and slapping an employee in a video. He was apparently upset that some school students were stealing money from their parents, skipping school and coming to play in the gaming zone. Mr Bhoir asked the employee to come forward and said, "Boys come here in their school uniforms. They take money from home. They don't go to school. Isn't this wrong?" "What can I do?" was the employee's response, which angered Mr Bhoir so much that he slapped him. He kept shouting, "These children stole Rs 4,000 from their parents. Don't ruin this generation". Then, pointing at a student, he said, "He used to get 95 per cent in Class 5. Now he gets 60 percent". The MNS leader also issued a "first and last warning" that if children were seen in their uniforms in the gaming zone again, it would be demolished. Mr Bhuir claimed that a few parents came to his office and complained that their children have been skipping school and going to the gaming zone. "These children also stole money from their parents to go to the gaming zone," he said. "As soon as we heard the news, we came here. We have explained to them that if a student comes in their school uniform, do not let him in. This is the first and last warning," said Mr Bhuir. MNS workers have been grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons lately. They have been aggressively demanding that those living in Maharashtra learn Marathi, and several incidents of attacks have been reported on people, especially North Indians, for alleged reluctance to speak Marathi. On Thursday, the workers forcibly removed Gujarati signboards of several hotels along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Thane and Palghar districts, demanding Marathi signage. The MNS had earlier launched an agitation against English signboards in Mumbai and Thane, pointing out that as per state regulations, it is mandatory for businesses operating in Maharashtra to display signboards in Marathi in prominent font, irrespective of any other language used. Over the past few weeks, the MNS workers have also assaulted a few shopkeepers for failing to respond in Marathi.
