Lightning, drowning, snakebites claimed over 430 lives in Jharkhand in past 3 months: Official
As many as 431 people died in Jharkhand in various disasters, including lightning strikes and drowning, over the past three months, an official said on Thursday. Of the fatalities, 180 were killed in incidents of lightning strikes while 161 drowned during the period, he said. Ansari also said that a ' Mitigation Project for Lightning Safety (MPLS)' has been approved to protect lives from lightning strikes. The MPLS will be piloted in 20 panchayats across five districts, including Jamtara, Dumka and Barhait. Under the project, electrical field mill devices will be installed to enable warnings about lightning strikes and broadcast through loudspeakers around three hours in advance, an official said. In a bid to reduce drowning incidents in the state, two divers from each district will be provided specialised training, and iron nets and chains will be installed at major waterfalls, he added. "The government is fully prepared to combat natural disasters - technology, swift relief and human compassion are among our priorities," Ansari said.

Wheat is showing very marginally mixed trade early on Wednesday. The wheat complex saw mixed action across the three exchanges on Wednesday, with spring wheat the weakest. Strength was led by the KC market, up 6 to 7 cents. CBT futures were fractionally higher across most contracts on Wednesday. MPLS spring wheat was showing steady to 1 ½ cents lower. Analysts are expecting to see between 350,000 and 600,000 MT of wheat sold in the week ending on July 31 in Thursday's Export Sales report. Wheat Holding Close to Steady as Wednesday Kicks Off
Wheat is showing very marginally mixed trade early on Wednesday. The wheat complex pushed lower across the three exchanges on Tuesday, led by the KC market, down 12 to 12 ½ cents in the front months. Preliminary open interest data suggested net new selling, up 6,867 contracts. CBT futures were 8 to 9 to 10 cents lower in the front months. MPLS spring wheat was down 2 to 4 cents on the day. Wheat Showing Weakness Early on Friday
Wheat is lower across all three markets so far on Friday AM Trade. The wheat complex reverted from the midday weakness on Thursday to close with some slight hard red wheat gains. CBT futures were the weakest and down factionally to 2 cents. Preliminary open interest was up 10,362 contracts on Thursday. Kansas City contracts were down up 2 to 4 ¼ cents at the close of the day. MPLS spring wheat was fractionally to 2 cents in the green. USDA reported a private export sale of 100,000 MT of HRW wheat to Nigeria on Thursday morning for the current marketing year.
