Common station, MRT-7 finished by 2027 — DOTr's Dizon

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Tuesday committed that the common station for LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7 lines will open in 2027, coinciding with the start of the operation of MRT-7 which connects Metro Manila and Bulacan. Dizon said this prior to the approval of his ad interim appointment as secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) by the transportation committee of the Commission on Appointments (CA). 'Ang goal po natin is makahanap na tayo ng bagong gagawa at magtatapos ng istasyon ng common station ngayong 2025 at ang timeline natin is kasabay sana ng opening ng MRT-7 ay tapos na rin ang common station, para by 2027 tapos na po finally,' he said. (Our goal is to find a new contractor to build and finish the common station by 2025. Our timeline is to finish the common station at the same time as the opening of the MRT-7, so that by 2027 it will finally be finished.) 'Parang 15 years na itong mga proyektong ito between common station, MRT-7, at ang koneksyon ng LRT-1 at MRT-3. Mahigit isang dekada na ito, halos 15 years na. Tingin ko, within the term of the President, lahat ng prokeytong ito ay matatapos na at operational,' he added. (These projects—the common station, MRT-7, and the connection of LRT-1 and MRT-3—have been going on for 15 years. It's been more than a decade, almost 15 years. I think, within the term of the President, all these projects will be completed and operational.) — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Families, groups of 4 only need to pay for 1 passenger to ride MRT-3, LRT-2 on Sundays

To celebrate Family Day, families or barkadas of four members only need to pay for one passenger to ride the MRT-3 and LRT-2 every Sunday starting on June 1, 2025. During the launch, President Ferdinand Marcos said the Pamilya Pass 1+3 program was made in honor of Family Day and to celebrate Filipino families. @bongbongmarcos. | via @SurfaceCarlo — DZBB Super Radyo (@dzbb) June 1, 2025 The First Family inaugurated the program at the North Station of the MRT in Quezon City on Sunday morning. The President explained that Sunday is an important day for Filipinos because it is a day where families spend time with each other such as going out for bonding activities or going to church. Initiated by Marcos, the program was implemented with the help of the Department of Transportation. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said under the promo, only one member of the family or a group needs to pay for the fare and enter the turnstile while the rest of the family will pass via the side entrance. Aside from families, groups of four friends can also avail of the promo, the DOTr head said. —RF, GMA Integrated News

DOTR chief: Lining up at MRT stations down to minutes from an hour

The time spent lining up in the Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-3 stations has been reduced to at least seven minutes from what used to be 30 minutes to one hour, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said Friday.. 'In North Avenue station, this is one of the most congested MRT-3 stations tuwing rush hour of 6 am to 9 am. Makikita po natin, napakalaking diperensiya 'no. (There has been a huge difference. People used to line up as long as an hour there, even longer than that. But because of the changes we made, people are now only counting minutes when lining up.) Dizon said the deployment of additional MRT-3 trains and removal of x-ray machines while maintaining security with deployment of K9 dogs as well as personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard have made a difference. 'Can you imagine, the commuters are already able to save two hours of commuting time. That is a huge lift for our commuters and their families, and this makes them more productive at work,' he said. Dizon said when he went to MRT-3 Taft Station three months ago, it took him 30 minutes to finally ride a train. 'Because of the interventions that have been done, I was only in line for five to seven minutes. Nagulat talaga ako eh (I was really surprised). So that really is the change we want for our people on a daily basis,' he said. Dizon, however, clarified that the reduced queuing time in train stations is not enough. 'Tuloy-tuloy tayo dito, hindi tayo titigil, hindi tayo makukuntento dito sa nakikita ninyo ngayon. Kung puwede pa nating pabilisin iyan, kung puwede pa nating mawala na totally ang pilang iyan, iyon po ang gagawin natin,' Dizon added. (We'll keep at this. We won't be content with what we have right now. If we can even make it better and remove the time spent for queuing, then that is what we are going to do.) —AOL, GMA Integrated News

As EDSA rehab looms, Skyway eyed as alternative route

The government is considering allowing motorists to use portions of the Skyway for free once major repair begins on EDSA this coming June. In Joseph Morong's Tuesday report on '24 Oras,' the EDSA rehabilitation will begin on June 13. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said Metro Manila's major thoroughfare will undergo large-scale repair since reblocking and asphalting the road is no longer enough. Officials said the stretch between Roxas Boulevard in Manila and Guadalupe, Makati will be the first to be affected. According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), EDSA will be repaired per lane. 'Yung mga kababayan natin na imbes na sa EDSA meron silang ibang dadaanan, alternative na dadaanan at ang pinakamadaling alternative na dadaanan ay ang Skyway,' Dizon said. (Instead of traversing EDSA, they will have an alternative route. The best option would be the Skyway.) The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said repair work on EDSA would take about two years, but the EDSA bus carousel would remain operational during the whole time. EDSA buses will use the adjacent lane while the remaining lanes will be for private vehicles. 'Wala tayong magagawa. Kailangan unahin natin ang commuter,' Dizon said. (There's nothing we can do. We have to prioritize commuters.) To ease the travel of commuters, some facilities of the EDSA bus carousel were fixed, including 18 elevators at six of its stations. Wheelchair lifts were also installed for persons with disabilities. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court partially lifted the temporary restraining order against the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP), allowing only the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to implement it in areas under its jurisdiction. 'Yung mga violators, hindi na namin kailangang parahin, mag-talo, isyuhan physically ng ticket na habang ginagawa yun ay nakakaabala pa sa traffic. So, kung may NCAP, tuloy-tuloy na yung takbo at huhulihin na lang namin through CCTV camera,' MMDA chairman Romando Artes said. (We don't have to stop motorists to issue a physician ticket, get into arguments, as this causes traffic. With the NCAP, violators will be caught via CCTV cameras.) Dizon also said the government is hastening the completion of the Common Station of the LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7, which was supposed to have been finished in 2021. He added DOTr is looking for another contractor for its completion. 'Ang target natin by early 2027, tapos na lahat. Tapos na ang Common Station, MRT-7 and nakakonekta na tayo sa LRT-1 papuntang MRT-3 and MRT-7,' Dizon said. (Our target is to finish everything by early 2027. We aim to finish the Common Station, MRT-7, and that LRT-1 is connected to the MRT-3 and MRT-7.) —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
