Family marks 'milestone moment' ahead of whisky return
Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers said that its Aberargie Distillery is 'marking a milestone moment with the crop of its farm-grown barley, the last to be harvested before the distillery's widely anticipated debut single malt launches in early 2026.' The distillery stands on a 300-acre farm near Perth owned by the Morrison family, which says it is a 'name synonymous with Scotch whisky for five generations'. The harvest on the family. (Image: MSWD) The company said: 'Seven miles south of Perth, Aberargie is one of the few distilleries in Scotland to use 100% estate-grown barley, cultivated entirely on the Morrison family's land. 'This farm-to-bottle philosophy is at the heart of Aberargie's ethos, which delivers full traceability, terroir, and complete control over quality from seed to spirit.' This year's harvest includes the distillery's signature Golden Promise barley. Grain harvested this season will go directly into whisky production on-site. Graeme Mackeddie, head of distilling at MSWD, said: 'This is a significant harvest for us. The last one before we bottle our very first single malt. "Growing our own barley gives us unmatched control over flavour and consistency. Golden Promise is a heritage barley that brings richness and depth to our whisky. This barley isn't known for its high-yielding properties; it's chosen for quality, and that's why we have chosen to grow this strain on our farms.' Aberargie marks a 'symbolic return' to distilling for the Morrison family, who last operated their own distillery before the sale of Morrison Bowmore to Japanese giant Suntory in 1994. Makati LGU increases cash incentives for senior citizens
Makati Mayor Abby Binay has signed an ordinance granting an additional P1,000 in the cash incentive given to registered senior citizens of the city. Binay said the additional incentive would be given this July. With the adjusted rates under City Ordinance No. 2025-104, the total cash gift to be received in two equal installments by every active member of the Blu Card Program and senior citizen who is a Makatizen Card holder will be as follows: P4,000 for ages 60–69; P5,000 for ages 70–79; P6,000 for ages 80–89; P11,000 for ages 90–99; and P12,000 for ages 101 and above. ''We are happy to inform our beloved senior Makatizens that they will be receiving a bigger midyear cash gift this July, and again in December for their yearend cash gift. We hope they could use the money for essential needs, especially with the rising cost of goods,' Binay said in a press release on Tuesday. Binay said that to receive the incentives intended for the age brackets from 90 to over 100 years, a senior citizen should have been a Blu Card holder for at least five years, as certified by the Makati Social Welfare Department (MSWD). Otherwise, he or she shall only be entitled to P6,000, same as those ages 80 to 89, Binay said. Binay said that under Section 3 of the ordinance, newly qualified senior citizens registered between January to March 31 of each year will be eligible for both midyear and yearend cash incentives. On the other hand, those registered between April 1 to September 30 will receive only the yearend cash gift, while those registered between October 1 to December 3 will not be eligible for either. The ordinance was signed by Binay after its approval by the Sangguniang Panlungsod on June 11, 2025, citing the city's unwavering dedication to enhancing the lives of its senior citizens. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KG, GMA Integrated News
