Mangalore University acquires data from UUCMS to issue physical marks card

Mangaluru: After several deliberations, Mangalore University (MU), which was assured to issue consolidated physical mark cards for its NEP batch students, has acquired data from the UUCMS to facilitate the process. According to officials, the printing of mark cards for PG students under the NEP syllabus is underway, and UG and other courses will take some time. MU needs to print over 45,000 mark cards for UG courses and is in the process of procuring materials, especially printing paper, for the same. There is a pressing demand from two batches of NEP-UG students to issue physical mark cards at the earliest, as it is hindering their prospects, whether for a job or higher studies, since currently, mark cards are issued digitally and available on DigiLocker. "We were requesting to give all the data of our students to UUCMS. After long discussions and pressure, they finally handed over the data to us. It took nearly two months to procure the data," said H Devendrappa, registrar (evaluation) of MU. The syndicate body of MU has already approved providing a consolidated marks card to candidates, and procuring the data has delayed the entire process. Currently, the cross-verification of the provided data is in process. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Truque caseiro eficaz contra o bigode chinês (faça hoje mesmo) Notícias | Beleza | Mulher Saiba Mais Undo "Since it is used officially by MU, the marks card needs to be proper without any error. It will be an issue for both candidates and MU when an issued marks card comes for verification of marks card/verification of genuineness. Once all this cross-checking is over, MU will start printing the same," said Devendrappa. Meanwhile, the printing of marks card of NEP-PG courses is in progress. "Their number comes around 4,500 to 5,000 marks cards. It will be issued soon. The UG and related course marks card number is 45,000 plus. There are two NEP batches, 2022-23 and 2023-24, whose marks card need to be issued at the moment," he said. With the delay in issuing physical marks card, the passed candidates continue to suffer. They are unable to secure jobs and get into higher education institutions abroad since digitally issued marks card are not accepted, considering them not to be genuine. The students' union under Mangalore University has been fighting for one year to issue physical marks card for all under the NEP syllabus.

Mangalore University allocates seed grant for research

Mangaluru: Mangalore University (MU) has, for the first time, earmarked a total of Rs 5 lakh as a seed grant to encourage research on campus. This allocation is part of its budget for the financial year 2025-26 that was presented during the first special academic council meeting held on Thursday. Stressing the rationale behind the fund allocation, PL Dharma, vice-chancellor of MU, said that this initiative aims to fund a minimum of five of the best research proposals invited from the permanent faculty of MU this time. Initially, the plan is to allocate a maximum of Rs 1 lakh for each research proposal received from the faculty. Closure of courses with less demand Dharma, when asked about the closure of several UG courses, said that at University College, Hampankatta, a constituent college of MU, the BA travel and tourism management course has been stopped and merged with BBA. MU will also strengthen BBA courses by increasing admissions and offering a one-semester internship experience. The University College will offer a BCA course from the next academic year. "It has been decided that any courses under constituent colleges of MU with fewer than 30 admissions are not economically viable and will be closed from the next academic year (2025-26). The reason is that they don't generate income, and secondly, justice is not done to students since all the faculty here are guest faculty with not much academic experience. The academic exposure will be less," he added, stressing the reason behind course closures. MU has also decided to shift all PG courses offered at constituent colleges to the Konaje campus from next year. Only the International Business MBA offered at Evening College, Hampankatta, will remain as it has a good response, he added, noting that MU has requested the govt to take over constituent colleges under it. Fresh academic year from July end Dharma said that considering all 34 state universities, MU is one month ahead of them in the academic schedule. However, despite this, it cannot reopen on June 9, as it will start the second, fourth, and sixth-semester examinations on that day. MU has also not received any official communication on the same. "We are considering starting the fresh academic year tentatively from the last week of July. It is not at all possible to start in June," he stressed.

Will ask UK for Savarkar's barrister degree: CM

Mumbai: The state govt will make efforts to get Savarkar's barrister degree from England, said CM Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday. Fadnavis said due to his revolutionary work and actions against their rule, the British took away his barrister's degree. "The university should prepare a detailed proposal to get this degree back. The state govt will correspond with the relevant institutions in England in this regard and will make efforts to give him the barrister's degree posthumously," he said at the virtual inauguration of Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar Study and Research Centre at Mumbai University (MU). Fadnavis said Savarkar completed his law education at Gray's Inn in London, but was denied the title of barrister as he refused to pledge allegiance to the British crown. "That was not just an injustice to his intellect but a testament to his unwavering patriotism." Criticising those who call Savarkar "maafi veer", the CM challenged his opponents to spend 11 hours in Savarkar's isolation cell. "I will give you a Padma Shri... Swatantryaveer Savarkar was a barrister, and when he filed an application, it would be written 'yours sincerely', which is written even today, and concluding he sought forgiveness is wrong." MU has proposed a grant of Rs 100 crore for developing the research centre at its Kalina campus. tnn

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) and Maynooth University (MU) have launched a new partnership with the aim of advancing higher education in the region. The Regional Graduate Academy (RGA) will see PhD students being taught and supervised in Dundalk but being awarded their PhD by the university. Students will be jointly registered in both DkIT and MU and undertake a structured PhD programme. The PhD programmes currently on offer fall into six disciplinary areas: computer science; biology; environmental science; electronic engineering (renewables); applied social sciences; and media studies. There are 16 post-graduate students enrolled in the first year of the MU-DkIT RGA. This number is expected to grow over the coming years, particularly following recent successful funding applications. The launch of the RGA marks the first milestone in the strategic collaboration between DkIT and MU after both third-level institutes signed a letter of intent in June of last year. Those involved have said the initiative aims to identify new ways the two institutes can collaborate for the benefit of students, academic staff and the wider community. In addition to the establishment of the RGA, DkIT and MU have said they developing collaborations in other areas, including research and innovation, student experience initiatives, and the potential provision of MU awards to DkIT Level 8 and 9 students. 'New kind of partnership' Maynooth University President Professor Eeva Leinonen said the MU-DkIT RGA represents a new kind of partnership between third-level institutes. Prof Leinonen said: "DkIT is a natural partner for Maynooth University, with complementary strengths and a shared commitment to regional impact and research excellence. "Together, we are building a collaborative model of doctoral education that is rooted in place, shaped by purpose, and driven by ambition - delivering real benefits for our students, our communities, and the broader research ecosystem." Meanwhile, Dr Diarmuid O'Callaghan, President of Dundalk Institute of Technology, said: "Our first cohort of students are already making their marks on the research landscape. "This collaboration is a wonderful opportunity for each institution to showcase its individual strengths and explore together how we can strategically develop to serve our regions. "Through our shared values, unique offerings and collective commitment to regional partnership and collaboration, I have high aspirations for the future opportunities it will bring for our students, enterprise and everyone in the shared region," Dr O'Callaghan added. Dr Alan Wall, the CEO of the Higher Education Authority, said the body is committed to supporting the strategic development of higher education institutions. He said: "Provision was made in the Technological Sector Advancement Fund (TSAF) for institutions to explore strategic collaborations that are aligned with national and regional policies and priorities. "It very encouraging to see the progress made by DkIT and Maynooth University on the Regional Graduate Academy, and this initiative is an important milestone in the strategic engagement of these higher education institutions. "The MU-DkIT Regional Graduate Academy is a tangible example of how collaboration can enhance Ireland's higher education and research system locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally," Dr Wall said. Meanwhile, speaking at the launch event this morning, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless said the RGA marks a new and significant phase of collaboration between two "strong" institutions. He said: "This partnership is to be commended. It reflects a shared commitment to building research capacity, strengthening ties with enterprise, and supporting the development of local communities, while enhancing the national research and innovation ecosystem. "I welcome that this initiative has been supported by my Department through the HEA and the Technological Sector Advancement Fund. It demonstrates what can be achieved when we invest in talent, partnership, and regional development," the minster added.
