New Delhi: Israel has carried out strikes across Iran while Tehran has returned fire as the foes trade attacks for a sixth straight day. The entire Middle East, on the other hand, is holding its breath, watching what happens next. Early on Wednesday, the Israeli military said new waves of missiles had been launched from Iran. Israeli media outlets reported that the latest salvos triggered sirens across the entire country, including the Tel Aviv area where explosions and fires were reported. Amid the escalating tensions in the middle east, Egypt has taken a significant step by bringing together 21 Muslim countries. This move is seen as a step that could place it at the center stage of regional diplomacy.
Egypt has issued a joint statement on behalf of 21 Muslim countries condemning the Israeli attacks on Iran that began on June 13. Egypt's Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, prepared this statement after holding discussions with the foreign ministers of these countries. The list includes Algeria, Bahrain, Brunei, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, The Gambia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Türkiye, Oman, and the UAE.
Respect for sovereignty and adherence to the law is essential
In the statement issued by Egypt, the countries emphasized that international law and the United Nations Charter must be followed. The statement further added that it is important to respect the sovereignty of all countries and maintain good relations with neighboring nations. In this context, the attacks on Iran have been seen as a dangerous provocation, increasing the risk of instability across the entire West Asia region.
Make the Middle East a Nuclear Weapons-Free Zone
All countries raised an important demand that the Middle East should be declared a zone free of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction. During the joint statement, the countries stated that all countries in the region should join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to curb the nuclear arms race. The countries also condemned all attacks targeting nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stating that such actions violate international law and the Geneva Convention of 1949.
All the Muslim countries are of the opinion that only dialogue and diplomacy can help to end this crisis. In addition, an appeal has been made to ensure the security of sea routes and the freedom of navigation. This unity of 21 countries indicates that the Israel-Iran conflict is no longer limited to just two nations.
