Tecno to announce its Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept soon, here's what it looks like - GSMArena.com news
08 July 2025 Nearly one year ago, Tecno showcased its first tri-fold concept phone – the Phantom Ultimate 2. That device was later showcased at MWC 2025, and Tecno is now ready to hold a formal announcement. The Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept will be unveiled later this month (mid-July) and we have some early images of the device to share with you today, showcasing the G Fold in its folded and unfolded states. Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept It features an inward-folding design, similar to what Samsung is expected to go with on its own tri-fold. This allows the main display to be completely shielded when folded, providing better protection from accidental damage. We should mention that Tecno's G Fold is still not ready for mass production and will remain a concept for now. Phantom Ultimate G Fold will offer a cover screen on the leftmost part and a triple camera setup. Tecno promises a flat and seamless display when fully unfolded, with no visible crease. This was achieved by combining flexible display layering and developing smaller hinge components for the dual-hinge mechanism. The innovative hinge supports multi-angle hovering and various formations. Tecno also claims the G Fold will be the slimmest tri-fold device to date, which means it will be even thinner than the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, which measures a mere 3.6mm when unfolded. However, there is a lot of hype around the first tri-fold device from Samsung that could be given a quick teaser at the same event in New York. Yes, the company could use the platform to build the hype and intrigue for its new product, something it had done for the Galaxy S25 Edge at the S25 launch event in January and then demoed it at the MWC 2025 in February. Huawei showed us what a tri-fold device can offer, especially when you unfold them. You get a smartphone as well as a 10-inch screen like a tablet packing into one product. The company even offers a keyboard and other accessories to really make use of its versatility. Samsung's latest foldable series launches on July 9 in New York and at the event we could see its first tri-fold device unveiled. The tri-fold device has been publicly confirmed by the brand earlier this year. And now it is a matter of seeing the product in some shape or form, which could happen early next month. The details about this special unveiling comes via a tipster named Digital Chat Station who claims the Galaxy tri-fold device will be unveiled on the sidelines of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 launch event. We should also see the Galaxy Watch 8 series announced as well as the new Galaxy Buds model on the same day. The company has been teasing the Galaxy Z Fold 7 features and design in the last few weeks, promising an Ultra experience, which does not mean a new Ultra variant is on its way this year. As for the new foldable avatar, Huawei is the first company to enter the tri-fold segment with the Mate XT model.
