Dor Turgeman transfer chase heats up as Rangers face serious competition from MLS and Europe

But the Israel international certainly isn't short of interested parties. He netted 15 goals in 32 games to fire Maccabi Tel Aviv to title glory. The Light Blues have been watching Turgeman, capped eight times for his country, for some time but no deal has happened. Less than two weeks ago, Maccabi Tel Aviv boss Zarko Lazetic claimed it would take a FAIRYTALE offer for the club to consider selling Turgeman. The conflict between Israel and Iran has complicated matters further with Maccabi Tel Aviv extra keen to hold on to their top Israeli stars due to the decreasing likelihood of being able to attract foreign players. But Rangers are far from the only interested party. MLS Insider Tom Bogert is reporting that New England Revolution are interested in signing Turgeman. Fellow MLS outfit Portland Timbers are also credited with an interest. Turgeman would be an attractive signing for MLS clubs as they could bring him in on an U22 Initiative deal due to his age. That sort of contract allows MLS sides to sign up to three players aged 22 or under to lucrative deals - but at a reduced budget charge. Rangers' interest in signing a striker could depend a lot on the futures of Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers. Morocco international Igamane has been the subject of plenty of interest but despite reports of him being close to a move to Lille, the French club have yet to firm up their interest. Dessers had looked likely to join AEK Athens earlier in the summer but it has all gone quiet on that front. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Hapoel Tel Aviv boosts squad with former Euroleague stars

Hapoel Tel Aviv continues to strengthen its roster with star players, aiming to conquer the country and potentially make a historic run in Europe. Hapoel Tel Aviv continues its ambitious roster overhaul ahead of its historic debut Euroleague season, with two significant additions reinforcing its backcourt: Chris Jones and Tyler Ennis. Both guards bring Euroleague experience, proven production, and familiarity with Israeli basketball – qualities the club is banking on as it aims to compete at the highest level in both European and domestic competitions. Jones, a former Maccabi Tel Aviv player, is expected to join the red side of Tel Aviv after three seasons with Valencia in Spain's Liga ACB. Hapoel was quick to move once it became clear that Valencia did not intend to keep the American guard, despite his having a year left on his contract. Jones had previously faced Hapoel in the EuroCup semifinal last season, averaging 10.5 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists per game in that series. During the 2024/25 EuroCup season, the 32-year-old posted 10.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 0.9 steals in under 20 minutes per game. In the Spanish league, his output was nearly identical: 10.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. His consistent production and poise make him a valuable asset for head coach Dimitrios Itoudis, as Hapoel builds a squad capable of surviving the Euroleague's brutal grind. Ennis, meanwhile, returns to Hapoel Tel Aviv after a previous short stint with the club during the 2023/24 Israeli season. He originally joined as an injury replacement and helped lead the team to the Winner League Finals, where they fell to Maccabi Tel Aviv. His performances were strong, and he expressed a desire to remain in Israel; however, family circumstances – including the birth of his child during the Iron Sword war – prompted his departure. Ennis now returns on a two-year deal, fresh off a season with Venezia in the EuroCup, where he averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. Venezia made it to the Round of 16, where they were eliminated by Gran Canaria – the same team Hapoel would go on to defeat in the final. 'I'm very excited to be back at Hapoel Tel Aviv and to be part of the club's historic Euroleague journey,' Ennis said. 'Hapoel is a special club. The last time I left, I wrote on social media, 'until next time' – and I meant it. I can't wait to see the fans again. Yalla Hapoel!' Hapoel Tel Aviv aims to take everything this season Coach Itoudis emphasized the enthusiasm and purpose Ennis brings. 'We followed Tyler all season long. I had in-depth conversations with him about the role he'll have on this team, and it's clear he's motivated and passionate. His desire to return to Hapoel was obvious. We're thrilled to welcome him back.' Sporting director George Chinas added: 'We're delighted to have Tyler back in our family. He combines top-level playmaking with elite decision-making. He's also a remarkable personality, and we look forward to working with him again.' Ennis, 30, was a first-round NBA draft pick by the Phoenix Suns in 2014 and went on to play for several NBA teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Lakers. In Europe, he's played for clubs like Fenerbahce, Tofaz, Turk Telekom, Napoli, and Venezia. In his first stint with Hapoel, he appeared in 12 games and averaged 14.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists during the playoffs. This time, he hopes to help lead the club not just to another final – but to a championship. With Jones and Ennis in the fold, Hapoel Tel Aviv sends a clear message: it isn't content just making the Euroleague – it plans to compete.

Orlando Pirates star reportedly receives R44.3m bid from Saudi

Orlando Pirates' Relebohile Mofokeng continues to attract serious attention from abroad, with Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv intensifying their pursuit of the highly-rated youngster. A source close to the negotiations revealed that Tel Aviv remain determined to land the 20-year-old South African, despite previous denials surrounding their reported interest. 'The Yellows' reportedly view Mofokeng as a marquee signing who could ease into European football at Bloomfield Stadium. Maccabi Tel Aviv Sporting Director Dominic Price believes Mofokeng can play a pivotal role in their ongoing football project. Price, who spent years developing talent at Liverpool, including the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones, has set his sights on the Sharpeville-born attacker. The Israeli club's interest isn't new, but its persistence shows no signs of waning. According to the insider, 'Dominic Price wants Mofokeng as part of his long-term plan to strengthen the team and provide a platform into Europe.' Pirates remain reluctant but bigger offers are rolling in Despite the admiration from Tel Aviv, Orlando Pirates haven't been swayed. The Soweto giants reportedly rejected an earlier offer, viewing it as below their valuation. However, a new bid exceeding R44.3 million has now landed, this time from a Middle Eastern club believed to be Al Ettifaq. That offer surpasses what Maccabi Tel Aviv reportedly tabled, as confirmed by Israeli media outlets. Speculation around Mofokeng's future continues to swirl. The Buccaneers have yet to respond publicly to the latest developments, even as pressure mounts both financially and strategically. Last week, multiple reports suggested that Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven planned to outbid all current suitors. However, Pirates were quick to issue a public statement denying any received offer. Sources close to PSV also indicated they had not submitted a formal bid. But confirmed there was intent to explore a potential move. Though no concrete European offers have been tabled. The continued interest from top-flight clubs suggests that it may only be a matter of time before a formal bid arrives. Where should the Orlando Pirates star go? 'Aris among clubs keen on McCausland'

Aris Limassol, who already have former Ibrox teammates Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun on their books, are keen on Rangers winger Ross McCausland, but the 22-year-old Northern Ireland international also has interest from two Major League Soccer clubs and England. (Scott Burns on X), externalRangers have been told by Maccabi Tel Aviv head coach Zarko Lazetic it would take a "fairytale offer" of more than £4m to sign 21-year-old forward Dor Turgeman this summer. (Sport1), externalTwente technical director Jan Streuer says 31-year-old former captain Robin Propper wanted to wait to see if he plays more under new Rangers head coach Russell Martin before committing to a return to the Dutch club, who have to decide whether they can afford to wait or look at other central defence targets. Rangers get 'fairytale' warning as £4m not enough for target

The Israeli striker is on the Ibrox club's shortlist as Russell Martin looks to add firepower having concentrated on defenders, midfielders and wingers so far. With Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane potential leavers in this window, that would exacerbate the need to get forwards in and Turgeman is seen as an option. Read more: Maccabi Tel Aviv are believed to be reluctant to do business, especially as it would be difficult to persuade an overseas replacement to head to Israel given the current situation in the country. Now, their manager Zarko Lazetic has hinted it would take a mega offer to tempt them into selling. And he quoted the £4million previously reported as not being close to the mark. He told Sport 1: "He is a football beast, only a fairytale offer would tempt the club to sell the player. £4million will not be enough."
