Illegal gambling in Macomb County broken up, leading to four arrests, 10 machine seizures
The Brief Four people were charged and several gambling machines were seized following two days of executed search warrants around Macomb County. Thousands of dollars and multiple vehicles were also seized on Aug. 11 and 12 last week. Each defendant is facing counts of operating a gambling ring, which is a 10-year felony count. (FOX 2) - The Macomb County Sheriff's Office made several arrests and seized even more assets during a two-day sequence of search warrant executions across the county. The work helped bust illegal gambling that was operating across multiple locations. Big picture view Four Macomb County residents were charged with running an illegal gambling operation after being taken into custody last week. Search warrants were executed by the Macomb County Sheriff's Office at several homes across five different locations on Aug. 11 and Aug. 12. Residences in Sterling Heights, Clinton Township, Macomb Township, and Washington Township were among the locations. In addition to the arrests, property, vehicles, and thousands of dollars in cash were seized during the operation, which was overseen by the Sheriff's Enforcement Team. Illegal gambling busted Dig deeper On Monday, Aug. 11, the sheriff's team executed search warrants at the Floral Cafe in Macomb Township and homes in Sterling Heights and Clinton Township. Mirela Deda, 53, and Alban Hulaj, 33, were taken into custody while five gambling machines, a vehicle, and more than $5,000 was seized. On Tuesday, Aug. 12, more search warrants were performed, one at the Kelmendi Cafe in Macomb Township and a home in Washington Township. Alban PReka, 43, and Trifon Mone, 57, were among those arrested. Another five gambling machines were seized, along with more than $12,000 in U.S. currency, and two more vehicles. What's next All four defendants were charged with one count of gambling operations and conspiracy to commit gambling. Deda, Preka, and Mone are also facing a high misdemeanor charge of maintaining a gambling house. Additionally, Preka and Mone were charged with one-year misdemeanors of permitting a gambling apparatus. They were all given a $10,000 personal bond. Animal cruelty investigation in Macomb County leads to arrest
A man was arrested and taken into custody after several 911 callers reported seeing someone beating and dragging a dog in Macomb County, Michigan State Police report. The incident happened about 9:35 a.m. Sunday along Van Dyke Avenue near Springbrook Estates in Bruce Township. Detroit Regional Communications Center dispatchers received numerous calls about the activity; and once troopers arrived they saw the dog and suspect in the 12000 block of St. Michel Avenue. Troopers did a traffic stop to take the 31-year-old Bruce Township resident into custody. In the meantime, he became combative and was handcuffed. During the arrest, the man damaged a Macomb County Sheriff's Office patrol car. The injured dog was taken to a veterinarian for emergency care, and is expected to recover. The suspect was lodged at Macomb County Jail, pending prosecutor review of the incident.

10 pounds of marijuana, $22K in cash seized from bust of Macomb County hookah shops
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office seized about 10 pounds of marijuana and arrested two people in connection with a drug bust of a pair of hookah and tobacco shops. On Monday, members of the Macomb County Sheriff's Enforcement Team served search warrants at Area 51 Hookah and Tobacco shops in Clinton Township and Mount Clemens, as well as at a home on Holland Avenue in Eastpointe. Authorities say they seized about 600 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, approximately 10 pounds of marijuana, two rifles with magazines, three pistols with magazines and $22,756 in cash, as well as a Jeep Wagoneer and a Chevrolet Silverado. A 44-year-old Eastpointe man and a 33-year-old Clinton Township man were arrested. The two men are lodged at the Macomb County Jail and are expected to be arraigned Tuesday.

Woman taken into custody on child sexually abusive material investigation
A woman was taken into custody upon a report of child sexually abusive material being shared online, the Macomb County (Michigan) Sheriff's Office reported. The Macomb Area Computer Enforcement detectives, working with the Macomb County Sheriff's Enforcement Team, served a search warrant Friday in Mount Clemens on the case. The officers took the 29-year-old woman into custody without incident. MACE detectives had received information from the Michigan Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force via the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that there were numerous child sexually abusive-related videos and images possibly uploaded by the suspect. Several pieces of evidence seized from the home are under review, the sheriff's office said. An arraignment is scheduled for June 16 at 41-B District Court in Clinton Township.

Shelby Township police fatally shoot man who ran away from traffic stop
A Shelby Township police officer fatally shot a man who ran from a traffic stop and drew a weapon on the officer Tuesday afternoon. At around 3:17 p.m., the officer attempted a traffic stop on a white Dodge Caravan in the area of Van Dyke Avenue and 22 Mile Road. During the stop, police say the suspect, a 41-year-old Troy man who was the sole occupant of the Caravan, exited the vehicle and ran away from the officer. Police say the officer chased the suspect behind a business in the area and gave commands to the suspect to stop before deploying a Taser. The suspect reportedly continued to run from the officer before ultimately drawing a weapon. The officer reportedly gave the suspect verbal commands to drop the weapon before firing and striking the man. The suspect was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. His name has not been released. Shelby Township police have now turned over the investigation to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. Per department policy, the officer was placed on administrative leave.
