Mumbai: Violated for 3 months, Bangladeshi minor rescued from flesh trade racket; 12 held
Mumbai: A Bangladeshi minor girl, subjected to brutal sexual abuse and violation for three months across Maharashtra, was rescued by the Maharashtra police and at least 12 persons with direct involvement in the flesh trade racket were apprehended. The racket, operating from Naigaon near Vasai, about 50 km from Mumbai, sent shockwaves across the city as shocking details emerged about her sexual exploitation and torture for over three months, reportedly by more than 200 men. The prostitution racket, when busted by Mumbai police, revealed that the Bangladeshi girl was pushed into the flesh trade by forging her documents, and the human trafficking gang also involved some female members. Speaking to IANS, a police official shared the modus operandi of racketeers and how they trapped the minor girl into prostitution. Assistant Commissioner of Police Madan Ballal, from the Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate, described the case as both serious and sensitive due to the minor's involvement. "We have rescued two victims, one a 14-year-old minor and another aged 21. Nine suspects, including two agents, are in custody. The victims were lured to India, tortured, and forced into sexual activities. Fake documents were used to alter their ages, and we are actively investigating to apprehend the remaining accused, including the customers involved." The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the MBVV police, under the leadership of Police Commissioner Niket Kaushik and with assistance from NGOs Exodus Road India Foundation and Harmony Foundation, conducted the operation on July 26 to free the minor from the clutches of her exploiters. The victim, originally from Bangladesh, shared a chilling account with the officials. She revealed that she fled her home after failing an examination, fearing harsh punishment from her parents. A woman named Ruby, known to the girl, lured her to Kolkata, where fake documents were created to alter her age, misrepresenting her as older to facilitate her exploitation. From Kolkata, the minor was trafficked to Nadiad in Gujarat, where she endured rape and blackmail. An elderly man allegedly took obscene photographs, using them to coerce her into prostitution. The cycle of abuse continued as she was bought and sold across multiple cities in Gujarat and Maharashtra, trapped by fear and terror. The breakthrough came when intelligence reached the MBVV police and their NGO partners about the girl's presence in Naigaon. Acting swiftly on Commissioner Kaushik's orders, the AHTU devised a meticulous plan to rescue her. The operation culminated in her liberation, and she was subsequently handed over to the Child Welfare Committee in Ulhasnagar, Thane, where she is now receiving counselling and care to help her recover from the trauma. The investigation has uncovered disturbing details, including the involvement of 12 Bangladeshi agents in the trafficking ring. Authorities have arrested nine individuals so far, including two key agents who allegedly orchestrated the operation. The Naigaon police are investigating cautiously, given the case's gravity and the minor's vulnerability. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities determined to dismantle the racket.

Woman Poses As Man, Robs Jewellery Of Rs 1.5 Crore From Relative's House
Palghar: A 27-year-old woman disguised as a man to gain entry into the residence of her sister's father-in-law and robbed jewellery of more than Rs 1.5 crore from the house in Maharashtra's Palghar district, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place at Manickpur in Vasai area on Monday afternoon and the woman was apprehended from Navsari in Gujarat the same night, they said. The accused, dressed up as a man, came to the house of her sister's 66-year-old father-in-law, who lived alone, under the pretext of wanting to see it for some deal. After entering the house, the accused took the elderly man to the toilet on the pretext of checking it, locked him inside and fled with 1.4 kg of gold ornaments and 2.3 kg of silver items, collectively valued at Rs 1,50,84,050, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madan Ballal said. Based on the victim's complaint, an FIR was registered the same day under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for theft, robbery and wrongful confinement, and the police examined 75 to 80 CCTV footages, he said. "We came across a footage showing a man carrying the stolen items and placing them somewhere before disappearing from sight, after which a woman collected them," the official said. Along with technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, the investigators received a tip that a relative of the victim in Gujarat could be involved in the crime. Acting swiftly, a crime branch team from here, with the assistance of the Navsari police, apprehended the woman, identified as Jyoti Mohan Bhanushali, from Gujarat late Monday night, Ballal said. "During interrogation, she confessed to hatching the plan herself. Disguised as a man, she visited the house of her sister's father-in-law, knowing he lived alone, and carried out the robbery," the official said. The police have recovered all the stolen items, he said, adding further probe was on into the case.

‘Slim, healthy' drug mules flying in on student visas: Cops
Vasai: "Slim and healthy" foreign nationals, especially from African countries Nigeria, Cameroon and Guinea, are being sent to India on student and tourist visas as drug mules, a police investigation has found. Only healthy ones make the cut because they have to swallow up to 35 capsules of cocaine in one go, said a source from Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar police's (MBVV) crime branch. The source said the drug mules are put on 20-hour flights and forbidden from eating or drinking anything to prevent chances of the cocaine capsules rupturing in the body. After landing and successfully clearing customs, they rent a lodge and purge the capsules, from which the cocaine is retrieved and distributed through multiple ways, including being concealed in shoes and other objects and sent via courier services, said the source. "We have come across evidence that drug mules are being sent to India on student and tourist visas," said Madan Ballal, ACP, crime branch, MBVV police. The crime branch unearthed the drug traffickers' modus operandi after its unit-1 seized cocaine worth Rs 22 crore from a Mira Road resident's house in April.
