Umno-PKR ties in unity govt intact despite Tengku Zafrul's exit, says Johari Ghani
BATU PAHAT: Umno's cooperation with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) within the unity government remains intact despite Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz's resignation from the party, says Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. Johari, who is Umno vice-president, said both parties must remain united in their efforts to ensure the country's political stability. "For example, in government, I play a role in national development as a minister. Political developments are normal, but they should not affect the strength of our coalition within the Unity Government and the country," he said. He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Madani Adopted Village (KAM) programme handover ceremony for the Plantation and Commodities Ministry at Kampung Parit Bilal here on Saturday (May 31). On May 30, Tengku Zafrul, who is the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, announced his resignation as a Umno Supreme Council member, Kota Raja division chief and party member. On Saturday's programme, Johari, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, said RM2.5mil has been allocated to Kampung Parit Bilal and Kampung Parit Ahmad under the ministry's Madani Adopted Village initiative. The funds would go toward implementing various development projects, including upgrading educational facilities, houses of worship and basic infrastructure, he said. He said the initiative also involves strategic cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, the Batu Pahat district office, Johor state development office, village development and security committees and local community leaders. "Among the activities planned are entrepreneurship training, such as chocolate-making courses and outreach programmes under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) MyCommodity initiative," Johari added. – Bernama

Johari: Ministry must ensure quality of life at Madani adopted villages enhanced
BATU PAHAT: The Plantations and Commodities Ministry wants the Madani Adopted Villages under its supervision to focus on improving the socioeconomic status and opportunities for the local community. Its minister, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, said the programme can have a huge impact and enhance the quality of life for the community. He said the programme, introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for every ministry to "adopt" villages, was an important one. "The importance of this programme is that it allows us to identify any overlooked issues. We at (the Plantations and Commodities Ministry) specifically chose Batu Pahat because there are many commodity-related activities such as oil palm, rubber and cocoa. "So, of course we took the opportunity to see how we could go down to the ground and understand the needs of the people here. "The allocation for the programme is RM2.5 million, involving the repair and refurbishment of suraus, community halls, and so on. "With this allocation, various projects are being implemented, including upgrading educational facilities, places of worship and sports courts." Johari said this to reporters after a handing-over ceremony for the Madani Adopted Village project by the ministry at the Taman Melodi multipurpose hall in Kampung Parit Bilal. Kampung Parit Bilal and Kampung Parit Amat were the first adopted villages under the ministry. Johari said the concept of the Madani Adopted Village programme was that every leader heading a ministry must be in tune with the heartbeat of the people, not only within their own constituencies but also in relation to issues arising in other areas. He said the initiative has greatly benefited various levels of the village community, as it also involves strategic collaboration between the ministry and its agencies, the state development offices, village development and security committees and community leaders. "The ministry and I are truly honoured to be given the opportunity to take part in this programme in support of the government's aspirations. "If entrusted with responsibility, whether as a council member or community leader, one must be willing to go to the ground," he said.

Floating market to boost tourism in Sepang's Kg Labu Lanjut
SEPANG: A floating market will be introduced in Kampung Labu Lanjut here as a unique community tourism product for both domestic and international tourists, with potential to boost the local economy, says state exco member Datuk Borhan Aman Shah ( pic ). The floating market concept is one of three economic project proposals submitted by its village development and security committee, he said. Borhan, who is state housing and culture committee chairman, said the introduction of the floating market concept could elevate the state's profile internationally. He said the village's proximity to Kuala Lumpur International Airport will be an advantage in realising the floating market concept at the location. 'There is potential not just in Sepang; possibly, we may introduce floating markets in northern Selangor as well in the future,' he said. 'Places like Sabak Bernam have rivers in Sekinchan and other areas. 'So I am confident this effort will have positive economic impact locally,' he told reporters after launching the Madani Adopted Village: Kampung Labu Lanjut programme here yesterday, Bernama reported. Also present was Datuk Dr Roslan Hussin, the director-general of Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia under the Prime Minister's Office. Earlier in his speech, Roslan said the selection of Kampung Labu Lanjut as a Madani Adopted Village by Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia marked the beginning of a grassroots development initiative. 'The government has allocated up to RM1mil for each village involved in this programme. 'This is a significant investment that reflects the government's commitment to holistic development, encompassing not just physical infrastructure but also social and economic progress as well as human values,' he said. Besides the floating market concept, he said a night market will also be introduced in the village as a micro-economy platform and community trading space. The Madani Adopted Village programme is part of the government's effort to ensure no community is left behind in national development, through its 'One Leader One Village' approach.
