Madison Beer candidly opens up about her suicide attempt after shocking nude photo leak at age 14
One in six teenagers aged 15 and above reported sending explicit images of themselves to someone else. For some, the experience is one they regret immediately - and singer songwriter Madison Beer can definitely relate to this. Beer was only 14 years old when her nudes were leaked - but now that she's 26 years old, she has candidly opened up about her experiences. In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, Beer revealed that the person who had shared her videos when she was younger recently reached out to her and apologized for the damage done. Beer said that he said, 'I had no idea that I hurt you like this. I'm so sorry.' She then admitted that she didn't think he was acting maliciously when he was younger - just that he was a kid and acting like one. And though his acts weighed heavily - having first opened up about her suicide attempts in 2023 - she said that she's learned to leave it in the past. 'Sometimes you've got to just let it go,' she said to the outlet. 'I tried to go the other way and kill myself, and don't get me wrong, I still have those moments. 'But I was like, "I need to first prove all these people wrong. And second, maybe I can help someone out there who sees themselves in me in any way." 'I like to think that everything I went through and continue to go through is because I'm strong enough to survive and tell the story.' She continued: 'Just because I'm okay with it now doesn't mean I deserved to go through it. As much as people mistreated me, who I really have a bone to pick with is the internet.' Beer, like many other minors, shared nudes with of herself via Snapchat with a boy she 'really liked at the time.' That boy, unnamed by Beer, then went on to share the pictures and videos with his friends, which eventually led to the leaking of those nude photos and videos online. Recalling back to the experience in 2020, Beer said that she was 'distraught and ashamed.' 'This was a traumatizing experience that has instilled intense trust issues in me, that I'm still working on to this day,' she wrote then. Beer also talked about the experience on the famous podcast Call Her Daddy, explaining to the host that people's responses to her leaked nudes were appalling and scary. She even mentioned the disturbing amount of adult men who would make inappropriate comments about the leaked footage. One man in specific had a particularly traumatizing response. Beer said she had come across a video of an adult man having 'aggressive sex' with a sex doll while watching her leaked videos. This, along with other similar responses, led to Beer developing post-traumatic stress disorder and her previously mentioned suicide attempts. And though she admits these images still stay with her today, she's learning to let them go as well.

'I probably was even maybe 14, 13 in some of the videos that exist,' she said, later adding that adult men would say things like, ''I wanna fuck her, she looks so hot,'' in response to the leaked footage. Madison also revealed that she once saw footage of a 'visibly grown adult" having 'aggressive sex' with a sex doll while watching one of her leaked videos. 'I couldn't take my eyes off it because of how shocking it was... That image will never leave my head. I was so disturbed by it, and so afraid,' she shared. Madison said that she ultimately experienced post-traumatic stress disorder and attempted suicide as a result of the traumatizing incident. Speaking with Cosmopolitan this week, Madison, now 26, revealed that she has since reconnected with the person who leaked the nude footage of her. 'The boy who the whole nude situation happened with, he reached out to me and was like, 'I had no idea that I hurt you like this. I'm so sorry,'' she recalled. 'I don't know how it feels to be a 14-year-old boy receiving photos of a girl. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I don't think he was being malicious showing them to his friends. He was a kid,' she said. Madison later said, 'Sometimes you've got to just let it go. I tried to go the other way and kill myself, and don't get me wrong, I still have those moments. He knew the harm as a kid, but better understood the impact of the harm as an adult. But it's the lack of care that's genuinely alarming in these young boys,' someone wrote. 'A very interesting outlook for her to have, and I won't tell anyone how to feel about wrongdoing that they survived. I hope she's better protected now,' another user said.
