Watch: Real Madrid legend's 15-year-old son bags brilliant assist on debut for Blancos U19s
Watch: Real Madrid legend's 15-year-old son bags brilliant assist on debut for Blancos U19s The son of a club legend at La Liga giants Real Madrid enjoyed an evening to remember on Sunday. The player in question comes in the form of Enzo Alves, the son of former Blancos left-back and club icon Marcelo. Advertisement Enzo, unlike his father, is an attacker, who generally lines out at centre-forward. And his goalscorng exploits at youth level on the books of Real Madrid have long been turning heads amongst not only fans, but those higher up the chain in Spain's capital. So much so that on Sunday, at just 15 years of age, Enzo was afforded his first-ever appearance for Los Merengues' U19 side. And to say that the Spanish youth international went on to take advantage of the opportunity afforded to him would be putting it lightly. Introduced off the bench in a crunch Madrid Derby showdown with Atlético, Enzo laid on the only goal of the game, courtesy of a brilliantly-improvised assist. ‘Then I saw his face' – Carlo Ancelotti admits he ‘wanted' another Real Madrid star to take final penalty
Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has provided an insight into the process which ultimately culminated in Antonio Rüdiger being tasked with taking his side's final penalty in last night's Madrid Derby shootout. Real, of course, are fresh off booking their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. After making the trip to the Metropolitano for the 2nd leg of their Last-16 tie with Atlético, Los Blancos were condemned to a 1-0 defeat. After last week's 2-1 victory in the first leg, Real, in turn, were forced to navigate extra-time, and an ensuing penalty shootout. And when all was said and done, it was Los Merengues who held their nerve, notching four spot-kicks to the hosts' two. The decisive strike came on the part of Antonio Rüdiger, whose right-footed effort just about made its way beyond the sprawling Jan Oblak. Had things played out just a little differently, however, then it could have been another, altogether more inexperienced player who was tasked with the decisive penalty. Speaking to the media on the back of his side's victory on Wednesday night, Carlo Ancelotti admitted: 'On the final penalty we had a doubt, who should have taken the penalty between Rüdiger or Endrick. We wanted Endrick… But then I saw his face and I decided Rüdiger was the better option (laughs).' 😅⚪️ Ancelotti reveals: 'On the final penalty we had a doubt, who should have taken the penalty between Rüdiger or Endrick'.'We wanted Endrick… But then I saw his face and I decided Rüdiger was the better option (laughs)'. — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) March 13, 2025 Conor Laird – GSFN

Vinícius Jr. targeted with racist chants from Atlético fans
Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. was tonight on the receiving end of racial abuse on the part of sections of Atlético supporters. The latest edition of the Madrid Derby is of course currently being contested. In the 2nd leg of a Champions League Last-16 tie between the city rivals, Diego Simeone's Atlético have welcomed Real to the Wanda Metropolitano for a highly-anticipated clash. And, as things stand, it is the evening's hosts who boast the advantage, owing to a Conor Gallagher strike inside the opening 60 seconds. As alluded to above, though, ahead of kick-off in the derby, it was matters away from the pitch which grabbed the headlines. And, unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. This comes after Real Madrid standout Vinícius Jr. was the target of digusting racist abuse from a group of Atlético fans. The individuals in question, as showcased in the footage below, came together outside the Metropolitano to belt out chants of: 'Ale, ale, ale, Vinicius chimpanzee!' Insultos racistas en el Metropolitano.'Ale ale ale, Vinicius chimpancé' cantan algunos aficionados del Atleti. @CurubitoTv — Nacho Lozano (@NachoLozLop) March 12, 2025 Conor Laird – GSFN

2 Barcelona, 1 Real Madrid: The official Champions League Team of the Week
The official UEFA Champions League Team of the Week has on Thursday been unveiled online. And it features a trio of leading La Liga stars. Two come from Hansi Flick's Barcelona squad, fresh off a 10-man Blaugrana emerging triumphant from an away trip to Benfica on Wednesday. Recognised for their respective efforts are Pedri – who conjured up another masterclass in the middle of the park – and Raphinha, who notched the game's only goal. Turning attentions towards Real Madrid, and it's Rodrygo who gets the nod when it comes to the Team of the Week. Frontman Rodrygo set the scoring in motion in Tuesday's Madrid Derby, driving home a wonderful left-footed finish en route to a 2-1 Blancos victory. He, too, has therefore been given the nod for UEFA's XI, alongside the likes of Alisson, Benjamin Pavard, and Harry Kane.
