4 Romance Novels With Delicious Payoffs

A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping Consequences are the lifeblood of fiction; there's nothing more central to the novel than the question And then what happened? In A WITCH'S GUIDE TO MAGICAL INNKEEPING (Berkley, 352 pp., paperback, $19.99), Sera Swan knows all about consequences. The British Guild of Sorcery cast her out when she used a forbidden spell to revive her beloved great-aunt — and worse, the spell cost her most of her magic. Now she runs a charmed inn with that same great-aunt, along with a witch trapped in fox form, a resurrected rooster skeleton and a gaggle of guests with plenty of their own quirks. Until one new guest offers her a second chance. Luke Larsen is a Guild scholar who might know a spell to restore Sera's magic — but he's reluctant to help anyone targeted by the tyrannical Guild leader Albert Grey. Mandanna's earlier hit, 'The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches,' brushed up against a sinister authority figure, but here that danger is magnified: Grey is a real threat to the garden of kindness Sera has spent her years tending. It is glorious, then, watching Sera and Luke figure out how to deliver the consequences his actions deserve — as if someone has stitched a huge, pillowy duvet out of justice and revenge. Love Is a War Song LOVE IS A WAR SONG (Berkley, 336 pp., paperback, $19) also starts with a heroine in metaphorical exile: Avery Fox is a rising Native American pop star who sparked outrage when she posed in a warbonnet on the cover of Rolling Stone. To ride out the backlash, she takes refuge at her grandmother's ranch in Oklahoma. She's out of her depth with her relatives and on the reservation; the ranch manager, Lucas, seems to hold a particularly simmering grudge. (First Luke, now Lucas — it's a classic romance hero name, what can you do.) But doing professional choreography in five-inch heels has made Avery tougher than anyone expects; she makes some beginner mistakes, but soon she's fallen in love with the ranch and with the close-knit community she finds in Oklahoma. And, of course, with Lucas — whose grand plans to restore the ranch will take both their efforts to accomplish. This book feels as lived-in and appealing as your favorite pair of jeans: sexy in an understated way and uniquely American. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Watch the best plays from Jase Richardson during NBA Summer League

The next time we see Jase Richardson on the court, it'll be nearly time for him to officially start his professional career. The former Spartans star wrapped up NBA Summer League this past week with Richardson proving in his limited amount of playing time why he was a first round pick by the Orlando Magic. Richardson appeared in only two of the Magic's five NBA Summer League games, but he was impressive in both showings. In his two appearances, Richardson averaged 16.5 points and shot 55.6 percent from the field and an astonishing 50 percent from three-point range. In both of his games he was clearly one of the best players on the floor. Now, Richardson will turn his focus to his upcoming rookie season with the Magic. Orlando will take the floor in October for NBA preseason action and then after that the regular season will begin. It seems pretty clear that Richardson will be on the Magic's roster for next year and not have to worry about playing much (if any) in the NBA G League next season. Before moving onto the next season, let's relive some of Richardson's best moments in NBA Summer League with a highlights video below: Contact/Follow us @The SpartansWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Michigan State news, notes and opinion. Watch: Coldplay's Chris Martin Cracks Joke With Indian Couple After Viral "Kiss Cam" Moment

The Colplay concert in Boston recently made headlines largely due to the viral "kiss cam" moment featuring Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company's HR head, Kristin Cabot. However, there is another on-stage moment from the same night that is now being widely shared on social media. A newly surfaced video from Wednesday's concert showed Chris Martin inviting an Indian couple onto the stage after spotting their sign in the crowd. "Just engaged, can we sing Magic together?" the handmade poster read. After spotting the sign, the Coldplay frontman, known for his crowd connection, paused mid-show and invited the couple on stage. He first joked with them, asking twice if they were truly engaged to each other. Once they confirmed, he then said, "That's better, we don't need any surprises". The singer then sang 'Magic' with the couple, even tweaking a line to include their names. He ended the performance by giving them a warm hug. "With fans on stage from Mumbai. Chris Martin momentarily forgets which country he is in! (but more than makes it up to the crowd). Music of the Spheres Tour. Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts. July 16, 2025," the YouTube caption read. Take a look below: The Indian couple was invited to the stage after the notorious "kiss cam" moment, in which Astronomer CEO Andy Byron was spotted cuddling HR chief Kristin Cabot. Their uncomfortable reaction to the "kiss cam" - hiding their faces and avoiding the spotlight - quickly went viral on social media, triggering various reactions. In the video, the pair was seen cuddling during the concert. But the moment the camera focused on them, the Astronomer CEO ducked away from the frame, while Ms Cabot quickly hid her face with her hands and turned her back to the camera. The frantic manner in which the couple hid made Coldplay's Chris Martin joke that they were either having an affair or they were very shy. As of now, neither Astronomer nor Andy Byron has issued an official statement regarding the incident. According to his LinkedIn profile, Byron held senior positions at companies like Lacework, Cybereason, Fuze, BMC Software, BladeLogic and VeriCenter before becoming the CEO. He is married to Megan Kerrigan Byron, an Associate Director at Bancroft School. They reportedly live in New York with their two children. Kristin Cabot is the Chief People Officer at Astronomer, the company behind Astro, the data orchestration and observability platform powered by Apache Airflow.
