Grateful Dead's 60th anniversary draws thousands to Golden Gate Park

Sixty years after the Grateful Dead first formed in San Francisco, the spirit of the legendary jam band is alive and well in the city where it all began. Dead & Company, featuring original Grateful Dead members and new collaborators, is kicking off a three-day, sold-out concert series at Golden Gate Park this weekend. The performances are drawing tens of thousands of devoted fans, known as "Deadheads," from across the country, injecting a wave of excitement—and economic energy—into the city. "You can feel the music in the air," said Bruce Anderson, a fan who traveled from Denver. "It's the 60th anniversary and right here is where it all began. And so, I wanted to come here and just pay homage." Anderson wasn't alone. Hundreds of concertgoers lined up hours before gates opened on Friday, some singing, some simply soaking in the moment. Wade Emrick, made the journey from Florida, said both he and Anderson have attended hundreds of Grateful Dead-related shows over the decades. "I hope to hear a lot of psychedelic vibes from the late 60s," said Emrick. The opening act, bluegrass star Billy Strings, took the stage early Friday evening. Dead & Company is set to headline later each night of the weekend event. Beyond the music, the event is proving to be a windfall for local businesses, particularly those in the historic Haight-Ashbury district, the neighborhood where the Grateful Dead rose to prominence in the 1960s. "[The business has] catapulted like crazy," said "Magic Mike," owner of Psychedelic SF Art Gallery on Haight Street. "All the Deadheads are in here spending a bunch of money, it's great." A longtime fan himself, Magic Mike said his passion for the band evolved into a business. His gallery features a collection of rare Grateful Dead memorabilia, much of it from his own personal archive. "It was really easy to make it a business because in order to move around my house, I had to get the stuff out of there," he said. Nearby boutiques and shops are also benefiting from the surge in foot traffic. Ashley Bousquet, owner of the clothing store Luna Wild, said her sales have jumped by as much as 20 percent. "I've actually extended my hours, opened early. I'm definitely going to stay open late," she said. "It feels like the city is really coming back to life, which is nice." While the crowds have brought a celebratory energy to the area, they've also created logistical challenges. Parking is nearly impossible near the concert venue, and police have increased their presence to ensure safety. For Deadheads like Anderson and Emrick, however, the inconvenience is a small price to pay for what they describe as a spiritual experience. "Just the spirit and love and the peace that the Grateful Dead brought to us all these years has culminated into a 60th anniversary that's going to be absolutely an explosion of love," added Emrick. The concert series continues through the weekend, marking a milestone not just for the band but for the city that helped shape its legacy.

Wolverine And Jack Reacher Are Made For Male Gaze

Earlier this year, British singer Olly Murs sparked some serious online discourse when before-and-after photos from his '12-week gym transformation' went viral on social media. It all started when an X user ran an online poll to ask men and women which photo they preferred. With just under 5,000 people voting, another X user was left in disbelief when they noticed that most women said that they preferred Olly's body in the before photo. Sharing a screenshot of the poll result alongside the original photos, the second X user wrote: 'why are women lying about this? like what's the actual cause?' and before long, men and women were embroiled in a passionate debate. And one of the most popular quote-tweets from a woman ultimately summed up the discourse, reading: 'We're not lying. Men cater to the male gaze more often than they realize.' But it seems as though men have learned absolutely nothing from this viral moment, with the same conversation erupting on X again just last week. This time, it stemmed from a right-wing X account sharing photos of Hugh Jackman and Alan Ritchson in character as muscular Wolverine and Jack Reacher respectively. The user wrote: 'Notice how no one, not a single soul, has ever complained about the female gaze in entertainment.' Rage-bait or not, this tweet undeniably struck a chord, and it has been seen more than 41 million times since it was posted on at the time of writing, tens of thousands of people have shared their response in the replies and quote-tweets, arguing both for and against its original message. Unsurprisingly, the overwhelming consensus was that, once again, these hench male action heroes with bulging muscles are actually catered to other men. 'both photos represent a perfect example of entertainment catering to the MALE gaze,' a viral quote tweet reads. 'did straight men learn nothing from the recent before and after gym photos of that british singer?' Somebody else shared a photo of the stripper characters in Magic Mike, led by Channing Tatum, writing: 'That's not shot for women. This is shot for women. See the difference?' For reference, while the Magic Mike cast are toned and muscular, their bodies are nowhere near the level of Wolverine and Reacher.'LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER. the female gaze is actually this,' another wrote alongside a gif of Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy in the 2005 adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. 'I'm going to hold your hand while I tell you this…. But the male power fantasy you're showing isn't the female gaze…. The female gaze is less about muscles for show (that aren't even functional, they're severely dehydrated for that effect) and more about EVERYTHING ELSE,' one more viral tweet one more concluded: 'Not that women hate muscular men but this kind of ripped look mostly caters to male audiences. The biggest admirers of gym bros are other gym bros." Perhaps expectedly, men have continued to argue in the replies of all of the viral rebuttals — proving that there is simply no getting through to some people. Wrexham dressing room's ice-cold reaction to Hugh Jackman as star speaks out

Hugh Jackman was snubbed by Wrexham players when visiting them after a game in 2023, despite other stars like Will Ferrell getting warm welcomes in the dressing room A former Wrexham captain has lifted the lid on how Hollywood A-lister Hugh Jackman was snubbed by players during a visit to the team's changing room. A whole host of celebrities have dropped in to watch the Welsh outfit in action since the club was bought by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in February 2021. Famous faces seen at the Racecourse Ground have included Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, Magic Mike actor Channing Tatum and Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. Will Ferrell also delighted the Wrexham squad by stopping off to say hello to them in February 2023. ‌ However, ex-Red Dragons skipper Ben Tozer has now revealed how Jackman was met with a much frostier reception later that year. Reynolds' Deadpool and Wolverine co-star was in town in August 2023 to take in Wrexham's first EFL game in 15 years. ‌ The club's opening match of the season in League Two was eagerly anticipated, but ended in disappointment as Phil Parkinson 's side suffered a 5-3 home defeat to MK Dons. And the Wrexham players were in no mood to talk when Jackman called in to the dressing room after the game to offer his condolences. Tozer, who recently announced his retirement from football, discussed rubbing shoulders with the stars during an appearance on Sky Sports Radio. "The one where I had to pinch myself was when Will Ferrell walked in the dressing room before a game," he said. "I was like, 'I have to shake and bake with that guy,' because of Talladega Nights. ‌ "But unfortunately, when Hugh Jackman came into the dressing room, he got the cold shoulder because we'd lost the game. He walked in and no one was bothered. Everyone was just a bit like, 'Can you get out please? We don't want anyone in here.'" Jackman has previously opened up on his love for Wrexham and the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, which charts the club's journey under the ownership of Reynolds and McElhenney. ‌ Posting on Instagram in July 2023, the Australian said: "You don't even have to like @vancityreynolds. @wrexham_afc @wrexhamfx is the people, the town, the heart, the show that is balm for the soul." He also once revealed how their ownership of Wrexham nearly led him to buy a football club. "I will admit to you that when Ryan [Reynolds] bought that team, I did get more than one offer from rivals of that team for £1 to come in as a co-owner and it did seriously tempt me," Jackman said while appearing on the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg show. ‌ "This whole thing of outsiders coming in and buying football teams, it feels a little, I don't know, easy. I have decided to go one step further, I am actually going to try out for the team." While Jackman ultimately resisted following Reynolds into becoming the owner of a football club, the pair recently announced that they had entered a different sporting venture together. The two actors were confirmed in June as the new owners of the BONDS Flying Roos sailing team. ‌ The Australian team competes in the international SailGP competition, which has also attracted several other high-profile investors, including Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe and American actress Anne Hathaway. In a joint statement, Reynolds and Jackman said: "We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure. Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country as well as being an avid fan of sailing. "He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride. Apologies in advance to Australia." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Southern Iowa Fair kicks off

OSKALOOSA — The Southern Iowa Fair officially starts Monday, at 4 p.m. Camping spots started filling up in earnest after 6 a.m. Friday, and were mostly full by noon. 'We usually end up with 130 campers out here during fair week,' said Erica Antolik, office manager for the Southern Iowa Fair. 'We utilize everything, and I have a waiting list of 46 people looking for a camping spot still.' This year's fair, as always, will have some changes. Some entertainment from the past isn't back, and new acts are in the lineup. One of the most notable changes is that the last day of the fair will be a full fair day. Typically, the fair would wind down around noon when livestock and exhibits were released. This year, they won't be released until 7 p.m., Antolik said. 'We just had some feedback from the community, that when they come out on Saturday afternoons, there's not any animals or exhibits to look at,' Antolik said. Some of the new Free Stage entertainment includes: — Magic Mike. In in the interest of full disclosure, Magic Mike is 'not what it sounds like,' Antolik said. Rather, the act involves an actual magician, wandering the fairgrounds doing magic tricks and performing magic from the Free Stage. — Rhinestone Roper, a wild west show featuring horse tricks, rope tricks, fast draw and trick shooting. — Fisherman Dan's Off the Hook Comedy Stunt Show. Bacon Buddies is returning to the fair as a livestock exhibit, at 7 p.m. Thursday. The exhibit gives people over 10 with intellectual or developmental disabilities the chance to experience showing a pig. Each participant is paired with up to two youth mentors and a tame pig, then assessed by judges. The official start of the fair signifies when all livestock and exhibitors have been checked in, Antolik said. But activities start before that. Static exhibit judging starts at 9 a.m. Saturday in the exhibit hall and 4-H building. Sunday, the Bill Riley Talent Show starts at 5 p.m. Horse speed events start at the outdoor arena at 6 p.m.

Under the European sun: Here's all the tea about Tom Brady and Sofia Vergara

Game on! Maybe. The burning question of the summer of 2025: Are two of the most eligible and sought after singletons on the planet giving it a go? The buzz heard around the world is that Tom Brady and Sofia Vergara are a thing. The retired NFL quarterback and 'Modern Family' actress have been spending time together in Ibiza, Spain, as per Page Six. One source described it as a 'summer romance' that kicked off when they both were aboard Ritz Carlton's Luminara superyacht's maiden voyage over the July 4 weekend. Brady, 47, reportedly asked to be seated next to Vergara, 53, at dinner (there's photographic proof of that on social media) and we gather sparks flew. Back on land, the two are still apparently still getting along swimmingly, and we actually think this relationship could work. Brady lives in Indian Creek Village in Miami Beach, and Vergara, who kicked off her TV career in Miami, is a frequent visitor and has family in town. They're also around the same age, and both have highly scrutinized love lives. Brady split from Gisele Bundchen, with whom he shares two kids, in 2022. Vergara finalized her divorce from 'Magic Mike' hunk Joe Manganiello last April. The Colombiana has a grown son from her first marriage. Last month, Brady was spotted dancing with 'Euphoria' star Sydney Sweeney at Jeff Bezos' wedding to Lauren Sanchez in Venice. The 27-year-old actress has a place in the Keys, so she's also geographically attractive. But our money's on Vergara, who's even a football fan. READ MORE: Sofia Vergara spends quality time in Miami
