Ray Thomas' tips, inside mail for Randwick on Saturday: High hopes for John Sargent-trained Change My Address
Trainer John Sargent has revealed the comical explanation behind the naming of bargain basement buy, Change My Address. 'It means if she can win enough prizemoney I will be changing my address,'' Sargent said. 'If she wins The Everest or something, I will be moving to Vaucluse!' Change My Address, who got her race career off to a winning start at the midweeks, puts her perfect race record on the line in the Precise Air Handicap (1100m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday. She banked nearly $60,000 for her Warwick Farm debut win and has given part-owner Sargent a deposit if he is really serious about moving home. All this from a filly Sargent purchased for just $10,000 online. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. 'They wanted $30,000 and she was passed in. Then the stud rang and told us they were putting her online and we got her for $10,000.'' Change My Address, a daughter of Group 1 winner Exceedance, handled the heavy conditions expertly on debut when she defeated her rivals comfortably. But Sargent's filly is rated a $10 chance in early TAB Fixed Odds betting behind topweight Hidden Motive, the $2.60 favourite. Don't get this one lost in the mail! ðŸ'¨ Change My Address wins on debut for @MollyBourke7 and @jsargentracing! @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 21, 2025 • 'This is a stronger field but she is well and can only do what she did at her first start,'' Sargent said. 'We know the heavy track won't bother her.'' Sargent also has promising three-year-old filly Bearings contesting the Consortium Clemenger Handicap (2000m). Bearings scored a good win in very heavy conditions at Newcastle last start but it was not enough for the filly to earn her place in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks and Sargent has lowered his sights to target the Randwick race. 'This is a nice race for her Saturday, she gets in with a light weight, she has only had the three runs so we will keep her going. 'Now she missed a go in the Oaks there is no rush to go to anything so we will just give her the chance to work through her grades.'' • McEvoy chases slice of history in Queensland Oaks â– â– â– â– â– RANDWICK BIG BETS AND MARKET MOVERS Race 1: Matima $6-$4.40 Race 2: Engine Room $6-$5, Callistemon $15-$8 Race 3: Changing Colours $8-$5.50, Good Banter $11-$6.50 Race 4: Shropshire Lad $8-$5, Bengal $11-$6.50 including a bet of $1050 e/w at $10/$3.20, Carribean King $15-$8.50 Race 5: Hurstville Zagreb $6-$2.80 with a bet of $1000 e/w at $5/$2.10, Rotagilla $15-$6.50, Duvana $26-$11 Race 6: Federer $3.60-$3.50, Oh Diamond Lil $4.60-$3.90 Race 7: Cool Jakey $3.50-$2.80 with a bet of $2600 at $2.90, Mighty Ulysses $15-$10 Race 8: In Flight $3.50-$3.40, The Novelist $4.60-$4.40, Barber $8-$6.50, Contemporary $15-$10, Kazou $15-$10 Race 9: Whinchat $4.60-$3.80, Accredited $11-$6, Fleetwood $15-$7 Race 10: Gitalong $8-$7, Winning Proposal $15-$8.50 â– â– â– â– â– EARLY QUADDIE Race 3: 2,4,7,8 Race 4: 3,4,6,12 Race 5: 1,8,11,12 Race 6: 6,12,14 QUADDIE Race 7: 3,9,12,15 Race 8: 4,7,8 Race 9: 2,10,11,19 Race 10: 2,4,6,10 â– â– â– â– â– PRICE CHECK HURSTVILLE ZAGREB (Race 5 No.1) has firmed from $6 to $2.80 favouritism after consistent support all week including a bet of $1000 each way at $5/$2.10. Prince Tycoon to back-up after eight-day break in BRC Sires' Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm
Cranbourne trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are happy to have another crack at Queensland riches with exciting youngster Prince Tycoon. Prince Tycoon won on debut at Caulfield before running a game second in last Friday night's $1m Magic Millions National 2YO Classic (1000m) at the Gold Coast but Busuttin and Young will back-up the gelding in Saturday's Group 2 BRC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm. • Racenet iQ members get full access to our Pro Tips service, where Greg Polson and our team of professional punters provide daily tips with fully transparent return on investment statistics. SUBSCRIBE NOW and start punting like a pro! Busuttin said the son of Written Tycoon had recovered well from his placing behind the Paul Shailer-trained Isti Star at the Gold Coast. He said Prince Tycoon was back in his temporary home in a stable adjacent to the Gold Coast racecourse soon after the race, which helped the talented youngster recover quickly from his race. 'He was quickly back in his box with no travelling and it was a 1000m race but he's come through it well,' Busuttin said. 'We had a look at him before acceptances but he looks well. 'We might as well have a go.' Busuttin said Prince Tycoon would do little on the track before tackling the $1m BRC Sires' Produce. 'He had Saturday off, he had Sunday in the pool and Monday morning he had a canter,' Busuttin said. 'He'll just canter for the rest of the week.' Prince Tycoon is an $8 chance in early final field betting on the BRC Sires' Produce after drawing barrier 14 for the feature. Blake Shinn rode Prince Tycoon at the Gold Coast but Nash Rawiller will ride the youngster with Shinn booked for the Kelly Schweida-trained Grafterburners. Meanwhile, Busuttin said talented import Craig's winter campaign was over before it began. Craig had two trials to prepare him for a tilt at the Stradbroke Handicap but Busuttin said the four-year-old son of Territories was back in the spelling paddock. 'He's gone for a spell,' Busuttin said. 'He's got a minor problem so we've decided to stop with him and give him a break.'

Special moment as William Stanley claims his maiden city win on Flying Embers at Randwick
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Former Central West apprentice William Stanley, whose tally of winners recently went beyond 100, posted his first city victory at Royal Randwick on Saturday thanks to a gritty and determined local, Flying Embers. Stanley was the obvious choice for Flying Ember's trainer John Thompson, not only but mostly owing to the hoop's near faultless record on the mare which prior to Saturday's Midway Handicap was two wins and a nose second from three shared assignments. Their previous two wins were by bigger margins each time but none showcased the mare's desire more than this one given she was forced to race three-wide with no cover from her wide draw. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Despite her less favourable run in transit, Flying Embers ($3.40 fav) took control of the race inside the final 200m, fending off a typically brave Danish Prince ($12) with Kembla mare Callistemon ($8) finishing best of the rest. 'Big thanks to John and the team, they've given me a lot of support throughout my moving to Newcastle. I couldn't be happier,' Stanley said. 'I planned on being one-out, one-back, even three pairs one-off, but it was just the way it unfolded. 'She travelled well through the wet and the favourite led, and I didn't want it to give it too much of a lead and she bounced along nicely.' • 'Very easy watch': Agarwood dominates juvenile opener Flying Embers was born and raised at Arrowfield Stud who offered the mare (as agent) at the Magic Millions sale in 2023 where she was secured by Prime Thoroughbreds for $100,000. The daughter of Shalaa is already showing a tidy profit as a racehorse but should make plenty of appeal to breeders later on given her dam is a half-sister to Ortensia. Other notable family members include the sibling trio of Bint Marscay, Filante and Kenny's Best Pal. 'She's a really nice filly,' Thompson said. 'I actually think she doesn't like the wet but she just tries so hard and pushes her way through it. 'I think on top of the ground, she'll show a better turn of foot.' ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ A Pound Of Salt again demonstrated size doesn't matter when he burst through the pack to score a spectacular win at Royal Randwick on Saturday. Most of his TAB Highway rivals towered over the diminutive A Pound Of Salt but his win in the 1200m spring showed he's 'big' on ability. Trainer Todd Howlett admitted when A Pound Of Salt first came to his stables he never expected the horse to be good enough to win a Highway. 'When I got him, I didn't expect he would win a Highway because he was such a little 'fella',' Howlett said. 'But for an unassuming little horse, what he does is try his hardest every time and that is a great habit for him to have. • World famous Dapto dogs to be shut down 'He's also got a very good turn of foot which he showed today.' A Pound Of Salt ($6.50) looked to be in a tough spot back inside horses coming around the turn but Zac Lloyd was able to navigate a path through the field and he swept clear late to score by a widening one-and-a-quarter lengths. Super Norwest ($5 favourite) ran on for second, just in front of Plenitude ($6.50). Howlett said A Pound Of Salt might emerge as a 'country cups horse' before praising's Lloyd's winning ride. Lloyd, who rode his first city winner for the month on A Pound Of Salt, said it wasn't his plan to get that far back on settling down. 'I was happy to stay on him today because I didn't give the horse a great ride last start, I gave him too much to do,' Lloyd said. 'So today I went 'underneath' to help the horse but I didn't want to get that far back but he was run off his feet early. 'I was a bit concerned because it is hard to make up ground on these tracks but he did a great job.' Isti Star delivers on her potential to take out the rich Magic Millions National Classic on Friday night
Chris Waller's former right-hand man Paul Shailer thought he could win the $3m Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January with exciting filly Isti Star, but was delighted to take a rich consolation prize on the same track on Friday night. Since starting his own training operation after more than a decade working with Waller, former Kiwi Shailer has enjoyed the backing of some powerful owners as he tries to build up his Gold Coast stable. He enjoyed a major moment in his solo training career when $110,000 purchase Isti Star made the most of an inside barrier and the services of Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michael Rodd to land the $1m Magic Millions National 2YO Classic (1000m) on the coast on Friday night. While easing $2.70 favourite Prince Tycoon was slow away from a wide gate and had to make a searching run, Isti Star was sitting pretty near the lead and won in fine style. There had been strong betting support for the filly which firmed from $11 to $7.50 in official fluctuations, beating the luckless Prince Tycoon while Secret Sort finished third at $41. 'I'm thrilled to bits and I'm so proud of this filly because she has been through a lot,' Shailer said. 'She was identified early on as a horse with immense talent. 'We thought we could win the Magic Millions with her, but it just went terribly wrong and she is a horse who suffers from allergies and she went shin sore. 'We just had to put her aside and be patient.' Isti Star resumed this preparation in the Listed Calaway Gal but finished out of the placings after copping a rain-affected Eagle Farm track and a wide barrier. She was then sent to an Ipswich provincial meeting for a confidence building win, smashing her opposition by more than five lengths. Shailer is hoping the win is the start of good things to come for his stable. He has Deep Focus as a $15 chance in next week's Group 1 Queensland Derby and is confident about his prospects after an eye-catching runner-up effort in the Rough Habit Plate after steaming home from the back of the field.
