Honor 400 series: Six years of software support and an Android bonus to top it off
While we're "patiently" waiting for Honor to drop the world's thinnest foldable, a.k.a. the Magic V5, the company is getting ready to unveil the Honor 400 series, coming on May is closely collaborating with Google, which means that the Honor 400 models will arrive with plenty of AI goodies on board and a cool Android experience for those who dare to try an exotic brand outside the Apple-Samsung-Google example of this collaboration is the integration of Google's advanced video generation model, Veo 2, via Google Cloud's Vertex AI. This technology enables users to create short, five-second videos from static images – be it personal photos, AI-generated art, or old pictures. These dynamic visuals will debut with the Honor 400 Series and are designed to be easily shared on social platforms, compatible with both Android and from that, the Honor 400 series will bring along something that many will applaud: a six-year commitment to Android software updates! Personally, I also expect six years of security updates as well. The upcoming lineup will also get Android 16 in 2025, so no delays are expected on that front. Wink-wink, Samsung! Image by Honor The company assures developers that they'll have early access to new Android versions thanks to their Google collaboration, thus allowing Honor users to benefit from the most up-to-date and secure Android features without unnecessary delays. Last year, Honor was among pretty quick in rolling out the Android 15 Beta to its developer community. Currently, the Android 16 Beta 3 has been available to developers on the Honor Magic 7 Pro for two weeks now – Honor is walking the walk, when it comes to early innovation. Besides the upcoming Honor 400 series, Honor Magic 7 Pro and Honor Magic V3 owners are expected to receive MagicOS updates based on Android 16 in 2025. As leaks suggest, the next Android version is aimed at enhancing user experience, security, and device adaptability. The new Material 3 Expressive design revamps the interface with vibrant colors, dynamic animations, and a more cohesive layout across notifications, quick settings, and the lock screen. Android 16 will also deliver major improvements in security, usability, and adaptability. Automatic protection of sensitive notifications to combat scams are expected, as well as Live Updates for real-time tracking on the lock screen. And, of course, enhanced support for large screens ( foldable fans should rejoice).

The world's thinnest foldable now expected to arrive in June
Honor Magic V3 is impossibly thin | Image credit: PhoneArena One of the most exciting foldables expected to be released this year, Honor Magic V5, is about to get its 'red carpet' moment. Honor has a penchant for releasing extremely thin and light foldables and the Magic V5 is no exception, at least according to the Chinese company's this week, Honor's exec Li Kun confirmed once again that the Magic V5 will be released in the first half of the year. According to them, the foldable ' will still be the lightest and thinnest ' on the market. Just like it did with its previous foldables, Honor will launch the Magic V5 in China first, but we can safely assume a global release will follow soon. Despite the fact that Honor's official wasn't very clear about the phone's launch, there are no big launch events the company scheduled to take place in May, which is why it's almost certain the Magic V5 will be introduced sometime in June. To become the world's thinnest foldable, Magic V5 must drop below the 9.2mm mark, the exact measurements of the Magic V3. In fact, in order to retain the title for more than a month, Honor's upcoming foldable must measure less than 8.9mm. Honor Magic V3 was once the world's thinnest foldable | Image credit: PhoneArena For the unaware, Samsung is expected to launch its next generation of foldables, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, in July. The former is said to measure 8.9mm, so Honor Magic V5 must be thinner. The only rumors regarding the Honor Magic V5 thickness claim that the foldable will measure 8.x millimeters, which is not hard to assume considering that it should be thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in order for Honor to respect its claims. Currently, Oppo Find N5 is the world's thinnest foldable at just 8.93mm thick. Besides its very thin silhouette, the Magic V5 is expected to pack a large 5,950 mAh battery. In comparison, the previous Magic V3 model has a 5,150 mAh battery, so it's incredible that Honor managed not just to make the Magic V5 thinner but also add a much bigger battery. Finally, a new report coming from reliable tipster Experience More claims the Magic V5 will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and will feature BeiDou satellite messaging.

Honor Magic V5 to come soon with huge battery increase
Honor launched the Magic V3 with a minor battery increase over its predecessor, but its successor will go even further. Honor Magic V5 (Magic V4 expected to be skipped) will have a 6,000 mAh cell, according to listings on MIIT and 3C. The foldable battery will have two cells — one of 2,070 mAh capacity and the other 3,880 mAh, for a total of 5,950 mAh rated value. This is likely the minimal capacity, with the typical being over 6,000 mAh. The phone, model number MBH-AN10, will support 66W wired charging, just like the previous Magic V phones. Honor is expected to skip the "Magic V4" because of superstition around the number 4. Instead, it will go straight to Magic V5, which is something we've seen repeatedly from Chinese smartphone manufacturers. Honor Magic V3 The previous two iterations of the top-tier foldable were launched in July and later unveiled to global audiences at IFA Berlin. Logic suggests the same will happen this year, but we shouldn't be surprised by an earlier release. Via
