Brownlee, Thompson shocked by LA Tenorio's move to Magnolia
For the longest time, LA Tenorio stood as one of Barangay Ginebra's icons in the PBA. His sudden move to take over as Magnolia head coach surprised not only the fans, but also longtime teammates like Justin Brownlee and Scottie Thompson. The trio played together — and won multiple titles — for several PBA seasons, a stretch that also saw them at the heart of the iconic Manila Clasico rivalry between Ginebra and Magnolia. But next season, they will find themselves on opposite sides of the court with Tenorio now the lead shot-caller for the Hotshots. "Actually, I was totally shocked nung narinig ko. 'Di ko alam eh, kasi 'yung pag transition ko sa PBA, si Kuya LA 'yung nag guide sa akin," Thompson, who had been teammates with Tenorio ever since he was drafted back in 2015, said. "For sure, 'di kami sanay na nandoon siya sa kabila. But gano'n talaga 'yung buhay dito sa PBA, we just have to keep on moving forward." Resident Ginebra import Justin Brownlee was also stunned, admitting he was surprised to learn that Tenorio, whom he considered a 'second coach' on the court, was taking over for their biggest rival. "I just heard that and I can't believe that, man. But man, like what I told earlier when I was told of the news, to be honest, my nine years in the Philippines playing for Ginebra, I feel like LA has been my second coach on the floor with obviously, Tim (Cone) and the coaching staff," Brownlee said. "Obviously, Magnolia is Ginebra's biggest rival and yeah, I can't wait to see what Manila Clasico is gonna be like, especially with LA now on the other side." —JMB, GMA Integrated News

LA Tenorio named new Magnolia head coach
Once a thorn on their side, Barangay Ginebra's LA Tenorio will now call the shots for the Magnolia after being named the new head coach of the powerhouse franchise. SMC sports director Alfrancis Chua confirmed Tenorio's appointment as the longtime Ginebra guard replaced Chito Victolero at the helm in bid to end Magnolia's title drought. "Actually this was planned a month ago. Biniro ko siya after winning the gold sa SEABA, [sabi ko] 'pwede ka na'. Doon nag-umpisa 'yun. Everybody knows he's an intelligent guy, a very smart, good leader," Chua said. "We're not expecting that much from him as a head coach. He was excited when I called him." Tenorio has been in the coaching circle for nearly a year now. He was given the keys to lead the Gilas Pilipinas Youth and made an immediate impact right away, steering the U16 squad to a gold medal in the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers last May. Chua, however, hopes Ginebra fans will understand the move. "Oo naman [malaking bagay na mawala si LA sa Ginebra]. I hope the Ginebra fans can understand that LA Tenorio is moving to Magnolia as a head coach," the SMC sports director said. "Hindi naman habambuhay nando'n tayo. At least makikita pa rin nila 'yung idolo nila sa PBA, ibang capacity lang. Hindi naman pwedeng habambuhay tayo ando'n, we have to move on." Chua, though, is not certain on whether Tenorio will hang up his jersey for good or will suit up as a playing coach for the Hotshots. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

The best Adam Sandler movies, ranked
If you'd suggested in the '90s that Adam Sandler may win an Oscar one day, well, the title of a certain comedy album comes to mind. But collaborating with Paul Thomas Anderson has a way of shifting perceptions. For the director, his followup to Magnolia qualified as a toe-dip in the waters of romantic comedy. For Sandler, it was a stark departure, you have to wonder what Anderson saw that others to that point didn't. As Barry Egan, a bathroom supply salesman with crippling social anxiety, Sandler turns the volume all the way down, save the occasional burst of rage. Whatever Anderson perceived in him, he was right: it's an affecting yet still funny performance that still seems like an outlier even now.

Chip and Joanna Gaines Share MAJOR Family Update — And Fans Are Freaking Out
Joanna and Chip Gaines's family just got a little bit bigger. The Magnolia mogul recently revealed on Instagram that her family embarked on an old-school road trip—and ended up getting a dog in the process. "Chip asked the kids to go on a road trip with him for Father's Day," Joanna explains in her Instagram reel's caption. "Each kid got to pick where they wanted to go, and Crew chose Oklahoma first bc he wanted to see a tornado and red dirt." From there, the family made pit stops in New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona—and managed to capture it all on camera. Joanna reveals that her Reel is entirely made of footage her daughter recorded during their travels. From simple shots of small towns to epic cliff jumps, it looks like they had a blast. However, the trip got really interesting when the family arrived in Marfa, Texas. "They decided to surprise mom and get another puppy," Joanna reveals. "We named her Marfa." Fittingly, Marfa made an adorable cameo at the end of the video—and we totally get why it was love at first bark. Not only did many of Joanna's 13.8 million Instagram followers welcome Marfa into the fold with open arms, but they also praised the entire trip. "Love this," one Instagrammer wrote. "Love Chip wanting to spend time with the kids by himself." "Love this and I think it's important for families to do things like this even when everyone gets older," another commented. "Memories that will last a lifetime." A third simply said, "Making great memories." Turns out, Joanna couldn't agree more. "Chip, you're such a fun dad," she wrote at the end of her caption. "They'll never forget this trip!" While this isn't the first dog Joanna and Chip have added to the crew—the family owned at least six previously—we do think this is an opportune time for Magnolia to debut a pet collection. In the meantime, the Gaines family can enjoy these fierce (and fashionable!) Chip and Joanna Gaines spark backlash for casting gay couple on 'Frontier' show
Chip and Joanna Gaines have landed in hot water with some portions of the Christian community. The home improvement power couple, who have long been vocal about their Christian faith, angered some viewers when a new show they produced featured a same-sex couple. "Back to the Frontier," which premiered this month on HBO Max and their own Magnolia Network (Thursdays, 8 ET/PT), follows several families as they attempt to live life like frontiersmen in the 1800s. Among the families taking on the challenge is the Hanna/Riggs clan from Texas, comprised of married couple Jason Hanna and Joe Riggs and their 10-year-old twin sons. Why Joanna Gaines cried over frontier reality series: 'I'm not a crier, but I felt it' The choice to include them was met with immediate backlash from the evangelical community as notable pastors and media personalities participated in a digital pile-on, chiding the Gaineses for allegedly shirking their Christian values. On July 12, Franklin Graham — the powerful evangelist and son of pastor Billy Graham, one of the most famous faith leaders in American history — took to X to slam the Gaineses' decision to cast a gay couple on "Frontier." "While we are to love people, we should love them enough to tell them the truth of God's Word. His Word is absolute truth. God loves us, and His design for marriage is between one man and one woman," Graham wrote. "Promoting something that God defines as sin is in itself sin." While same-sex marriage was legalized nationwide in 2015 in the U.S., large sects of the evangelical Christian movement continue to oppose it. "Why are you promoting homosexuality as a Christian? Why compromise on the Bible's clear teachings on this? Why support homosexuals buying kids? Disappointed would be an understatement," Christian sports commentator Jon Root wrote in a post on X. But Chip Gaines hit back, responding to the post with a Bible verse. "'But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,' 1 Peter 3:15," Gaines retorted. "I really felt the hope, and gentleness and respect here." In another post, Chip encouraged viewers, especially those with his shared faith to watch "Frontier" with an open mind. "Talk, ask qustns, listen.. maybe even learn. Too much to ask of modern American Christian culture. Judge 1st, understand later/never," he wrote on X. "It's a sad sunday when 'non believers' have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian." Chip and Joanna Gaines have long been open about their Christianity In part by sharing their own views on religion and faith, the Magnolia founders and home renovation gurus have gained a following of their own since their HGTV show "Fixer Upper" first premiered in 2013. Beyond their TV network, they have a successful home goods line at Target, several New York Times bestselling books and a Texas-based market that boasts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. On July 14, the Gaineses were even named guest sharks on the ABC business pitch competition series "Shark Tank." The Gaineses rose to fame on "Fixer" in which they starred for five seasons as they renovated homes in Waco, Texas from 2013 to 2018. The undeniable appeal of Chip and Joanna Gaines, HGTV's prom king and queen, explained The couple has has remained fairly mum on political issues, seemingly to appease their wide fanbase. Frustrations with the Gaineses from certain viewers, however, have been simmering under the surface for some time. The couple agitated conservative fans when they attended a state dinner hosted by former President Joe Biden with ex-South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol at the White House in April 2023. Joanna Gaines, whose own mother is South Korean, traced her heritage in her memoir "The Stories We Tell," published the previous year. "Frontier," is supposed to be devoid of modernity, a Thursday night throwback to a time gone by. In an interview this month with USA TODAY, Joanna Gaines said the series made her cry: "I'm not a crier, but I felt it." "I felt this sense of peace; I felt home," she said. "The idea that these three families got out of their busy rut and got to have this experience of eight weeks together going through the hard, going through the beautiful, it was like this spiritual experience that I felt for these families."
