Raj Thackeray's men remove Gujarati display board at Navi Mumbai BJP MLA's office; taken off under police supervision

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena members, along with other political party workers, forced a Gujarat BJP MLA's office, located in Seawoods, Navi Mumbai, to remove a Gujarati signboard on Monday. The signboard was taken down with police presence outside the public relations office of Virendrasinh Bahadursinh Jadeja, who serves as MLA for Rapar constituency in Gujarat, PTI reported. The party had previously issued an ultimatum demanding the board's removal last week. Led by MNS Navi Mumbai City Secretary Sachin Kadam, representatives from Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and Nationalist Congress Party (SP) organised a demonstration to the NRI Sagari police station. The group submitted their request to authorities, demanding the immediate replacement of the Gujarati board with a Marathi one. They also requested action against those who they claimed had "insulted" Marathi identity. NRI Sagari police station's Senior Inspector Sunil Kadam provided assurance that the disputed board would be removed promptly. Following this assurance, MNS supporters visited the BJP office where the Gujarati plaque was removed under police supervision. The MNS released a statement saying, "In the presence of the police, the Gujarati plaque was removed. And the BJP MLA's worker publicly apologised to all the Marathi people and assured to install the Marathi dais within a few hours."Maharashtra Navnirman Sena

"Aren't You From Hindustan?" Woman's Retort When Told To Speak In Marathi

Mumbai: Another incident of a group of people forcing individuals to speak in Marathi has been reported from Mumbai's Ghatkopar. This time, a group of men surrounded a woman and shouted at her to speak in Marathi. A video of the incident has surfaced. The woman, identified as Sanjira Devi, was standing in front of her house when she saw that the men had blocked the way. When she asked them to give some space, they told her to speak in Marathi. She refused. Thus began the heated exchange. "Speak in Marathi. This is Maharashtra," one of the men said, raising his finger near her face. The others continued to shout at her. "No, you talk in Hindi. Tell me, aren't you a Hindustani? Aren't you from Hindustan?" she said. "Maharashtra, Maharashtra," the man replied. A crowd began to build up around them and somebody called the police. By the time they arrived, the men had left. Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has been on the forefront of the speak-in-Marathi street campaign that usually involves threatening people, especially those who have come to Maharashtra, to speak in the local language. While this has been something that MNS workers have been doing for a long time, the first attack over not speaking Marathi in recent times happened when MNS workers thrashed a shopkeeper near Mumbai for not speaking Marathi. Earlier this month, the glass door of the office of share market investor Sushil Kedia was vandalised after he declared he wouldn't speak Marathi. All these incidents also came amid allegations of the state government "imposing" Hindi language in Maharashtra under the three-language formula of the National Education Policy (NEP). MNS chief Raj Thackeray and his cousin Uddhav Thackeray held a "victory" rally on July 5 and reunited after 20 years.

'Speak in Marathi or get out': Fight over seat in Mumbai local train turns into language row — Watch Viral video

Once again, an incident of language row has come to light in Maharashtra's capital, Mumbai, where an argument over a seat on a local train turned into a full-blown language war, with one woman telling the other to learn Marathi or 'get out'. The incident happened on Friday evening in the crowded ladies' compartment on the Central Line. The incident was also captured on camera and shared on social media platforms. The video that went viral on social media, showed six to seven women arguing over a seat. During the debate, one woman criticised another female passenger for not speaking in Marathi language. "If you want to stay in our Mumbai, speak Marathi, otherwise get out," she said. Soon after, other local women in the train joined the fight. This incident came amid ongoing language row in Maharashtra, with Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena party workers being condemned for targeting and abusing people for not speaking in Marathi. Earlier this month, a shopkeeper in Mumbai's Vikhroli area was assaulted by MNS workers over a WhatsApp status deemed offensive to Marathi people. The video of the incident showed the shopkeeper being forced to apologise publicly while being assaulted. Recently, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray asserted that he would not accept any attempt by the Maharashtra government to implement a three-language policy in the state. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Friday said if Hindi was made mandatory for Classes 1 to 5 in schools in Maharashtra, his party will "shut down schools". Speaking at a rally at Mira Bhayandar near Mumbai, he referred to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's latest averment that Hindi will be taught in state schools at any costs. Thackerayalso hit back at BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's controversial "patak-patak ke maarenge" remarks. In a counter-attack, Raj Thackeray said, 'A BJP MP said, 'Marathi logon ko hum yahan pe patak patak ke maarenge'... You come to Mumbai. Mumbai ke samundar mein dubo dubo ke maarenge.'

‘Speak Marathi Or Get Out': Seat Dispute In Mumbai Local Turns Into Language Debate

Last Updated: The dispute originally began over seating arrangements but quickly turned personal, with the woman's language choice becoming a flashpoint. A routine commute in a Mumbai local turned into a heated argument after a verbal altercation broke out between women passengers in the ladies' compartment, reportedly over a seat. The spat quickly turned into a debate over language, with a group of Marathi-speaking women allegedly demanding a fellow passenger stop speaking in Hindi and switch to Marathi. The incident took place in a crowded compartment and was also captured on video. In the footage, one woman is heard objecting to being addressed in Hindi, insisting that Marathi be used instead. The disagreement originally began over seating arrangements but quickly turned personal, with the woman's language choice becoming a flashpoint. 'If you want to stay in our Mumbai, speak Marathi; otherwise, get out," she told her. Several videos making the rounds on social media show MNS workers confronting shopkeepers, auto drivers, and even bank employees for not speaking Marathi. In one such incident, a medical shop employee was beaten and forced to apologise publicly for allegedly posting a WhatsApp status deemed disrespectful to the Marathi language. In another separate incident, a Vikroli-based Rajasthani shopkeeper was assaulted by local Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers after he allegedly posted a WhatsApp status 'insulting the Marathi Manoos (Marathi-speaking people)'. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
