TPCC chief to take up ceasefire appeal with State government; Peace Talks Committee slams Centre for not announcing ceasefire
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud has said that he will bring the Peace Talks Committee's appeal for a ceasefire with the CPI (Maoist) to the notice of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, besides discussing it completely in the party's high-level committee, to explore the possibility of announcing a ceasefire in the State. Addressing a roundtable conference organised by the Peace Talks Committee at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram here on Sunday, Mr. Mahesh slammed the Modi-led Central government for its handling of the Maoist issue and Operation Kagar at Karreguttalu. He accused the Centre of aiming to eliminate Naxalites to hand over mineral wealth in Chhattisgarh and other States to corporate companies. The Congress leader also criticised the Modi government for its 'fascist rule', saying it is willing to hold talks with terrorists but not with those who sacrificed their lives to address social inequalities. Stating that any democratically-elected government must act following the Constitution, he questioned why the Centre is not willing to hold talks with Maoists, who are Indian citizens, while offering a ceasefire with Pakistan. Referring to the Congress's ideology, he remembered that their party was built on the foundations of non-violence. He, however, condemned violence from all sides and stated that Naxalism was born out of economic inequalities. Expressing similar views, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar, representing the party at the conference, emphasised his party's commitment to peace, dialogue and democratic values. He recalled that former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, during a public meeting in Warangal, had called for an immediate end to Operation Kagar and urged the Central government to hold peace talks. Mr. Sravan suggested that people resort to arms when they lack a platform to raise their grievances and stressed the need for effective platforms for people to express their grievances. Peace Talks Committee convener Justice Chandrakumar, members Prof. Haragopal, Prof. Anwar Khan and others urged the Centre to hold talks with the Maoists immediately.

Arrests will happen soon after submission of KLIS probe report: TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud
KHAMMAM: Once the Commission of Inquiry probing irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project submits its report, arrests will follow, said TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday. Stating that Congress has consistently advocated for the rights and welfare of tribal and Adivasi communities, from the era of Indira Gandhi to the present leadership under Rahul Gandhi, Mahesh Kumar Goud noted that it was Indira Gandhi who introduced the Land Ceiling Act to empower tribal communities with full implementation later achieved under former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. He also credited Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra for strengthening the party's connection with grassroots communities, which led to initiatives like the caste census in Telangana and the launch of the Indira Soura Giri Jal Vikasam scheme. Under this programme, land ownership rights were granted to over 2.3 lakh tribal farmers through the Recognition of Forest Rights Act.

Rahul tells Cong leaders to highlight T caste survey in all states as nat'l model
1 2 3 Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that party leaders should aggressively communicate the successful conduct of the caste survey in Telangana by the Congress govt to the people in their respective states. The Congress' promise of a nation-wide caste census was not to win elections but to uplift SCs, STs, BCs, minorities and downtrodden sections, including those from the forward castes, he said. Rahul Gandhi made the remarks after Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud explained the process of the caste census at a workshop organised by the AICC for party's 140 spokespersons from various states and media panellists. Rahul told them not to fall into the trap of the BJP and present facts in debates with confidence and aggression instead of being defensive. He also pointed out that no matter what the BJP tries to project, the Centre's announcement of conducting a caste census was done under pressure from the Congress. Ultimately, the Congress will take credit if the Centre goes for a caste census along with the general census, he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cost Of Amusement Park Equipment From Mexico Might Surprise You - See Tips Amusement Park Equipment | search ads Click Here Undo The caste survey of Telangana will stand as a role model for the central govt, and this should be communicated to the people, he said. In a video message to party leaders, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge said it was the responsibility of the Congress leaders to give direction to this discussion and assert that 'Jitni Aabadi Utna Haq' is not just a slogan but a national resolution. Though the issue of the caste census is not new, the Congress has constantly raised it in its election manifestos, in Parliament, on the streets, and on almost every platform to achieve social justice, he said. Kharge also referred to his letter to the Prime Minister in April 2023, demanding that a caste census be done. Earlier, TPCC chief Mahesh Goud said the caste survey was conducted in Telangana with inspiration from Rahul Gandhi, who had promised the people of the state that it will be done if Congress was elected. "The Backward Classes trusted Rahul Gandhi's word and voted in large numbers to bring our party to power. Now, our caste survey has become a role model and a topic of discussion in the country," he said. The Congress govt also passed two bills, extending 42% reservations to BCs in education and govt employment. The govt is also implementing SC categorisation, with Telangana being the first in the country in both cases, he said. "We want the central govt to also adopt Telangana's transparent model. We are ready to cooperate in this process," he said. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Brother's Day wishes , messages and quotes !
