Bengaluru's Ejipura flyover finally back on track, BBMP eyes year-end completion

After years of sluggish progress and bureaucratic delays, the long-awaited Ejipura flyover project in Bengaluru has finally picked up pace. The 2.5-km-long Ejipura flyover, whose construction began in 2017, has faced years of setbacks and delays. (X/@BBMPCOMM) According to a report by Times of India report, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced that over 60% of the construction is now complete and expressed confidence that the 2.5-kilometre flyover will be ready by the end of 2025. This comes after BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao visited the site in May. He inspected the stretch from Christ University to the Ejipura flyover in the city's south zone. 'I issued necessary directions to the officials regarding the development of footpaths, improvement of junctions, and progress of the Ejipura Flyover work,' he said in his post. The elevated corridor, connecting Ejipura Main Road (Inner Ring Road Junction) to Kendriya Sadan Junction, is expected to ease the crushing traffic burden on Koramangala's 100-Feet Road, one of the city's most congested stretches. Missed deadlines, multiple setbacks Originally awarded to Simplex Infrastructure in 2017, the project faced repeated setbacks, including missed deadlines, financial penalties, and eventually, contract termination. Following three unsuccessful rounds of fresh tenders, Hyderabad-based BSCPCL Pvt Ltd stepped in as the new contractor in November 2023. The firm was given a 15-month deadline to complete the remaining work, the report further added. Though the new contract also saw initial hiccups, including two warning notices issued by BBMP, officials say the intervention of the chief minister, who warned against further delays, spurred renewed urgency. So far, 70 of the 84 pillars have been erected, and 325 of the 762 required segments have been installed. Down and up ramps are being constructed near Madiwala-Ejipura, and a loop towards Sarjapur is also in progress. In a bid to minimise the ecological impact, BBMP has initiated the transplantation of 30–40 trees along the project alignment. Bengaluru Metro Tickets Now Bookable on 9 Popular Apps via ONDC Integration

In a major step toward digital mobility, Namma Metro commuters can now book QR-code-based metro tickets using nine popular travel and ride-booking apps, thanks to the integration with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform. Until now, metro tickets were mostly available through the official Namma Metro app, Paytm, and BMRCL's WhatsApp chatbot. But starting this month, commuters have a wider range of apps to choose from, making metro travel in Bengaluru more flexible and accessible than ever before. The newly supported apps include Namma Yatri, Rapido, Redbus, EaseMyTrip, Tummoc, OneTicket, Highway Delite, Yatri – City Travel Guide, and Miles & Kilometres (a Telegram-based service). With this change, metro travel can now be planned alongside autos, cabs, and buses — all through a single platform. A Smarter Way to Travel The digital upgrade is powered by ONDC, a government-backed digital commerce network. This integration allows mobility and ticketing services from multiple providers to work together. The result? A more seamless door-to-door travel experience. Now, commuters can open any of the listed apps, book their full journey — including an auto or cab — and also purchase a Bangalore Metro ticket without needing to switch apps or stand in queues. How QR Ticketing Works Once a user books their metro ticket through one of these apps, a QR code is generated instantly. At the metro station, the commuter simply scans the QR code at the entry gate to gain access — no paper ticket or physical token is required. This system not only speeds up boarding and reduces wait times but also promotes a more eco-friendly and contactless travel option for daily passengers. Why This Matters According to BMRCL Managing Director Maheshwar Rao, the new system supports the city's vision of creating a smarter and more interconnected public transport network. 'This expansion supports our goal of providing seamless first-, middle-, and last-mile connectivity,' Rao said. 'Commuters can now plan their entire journey in one go, making public transport more user-friendly.' Looking Ahead As Bengaluru's traffic congestion continues to grow, this move toward integrated digital ticketing could play a major role in shifting more people toward public transport. With QR-based metro ticketing now available on apps that many users already rely on for their daily travel, the convenience factor has increased significantly. Whether you're booking a metro ticket through Rapido, Namma Yatri, or Redbus, the process is now simpler, faster, and more in tune with the digital lifestyles of today's commuters.

Statewide Shutdown: Hundreds of Palike employees protest in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Garbage was not collected and roads were not swept clean Tuesday across Bengaluru and other parts of the state as over 3,000 municipal corporation employees assembled at Freedon Park to press for their long-pending demands. The agitation, organised by BBMP Officers' and Employees' Welfare Association and Karnataka State Federation of Municipal Corporation Employees, saw participation of civic workers, engineers, health staff, revenue officers, and IT personnel from 10 municipal corporations, including Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Davangere, Belagavi, Ballari and Kalaburagi. Employees demanded withdrawal of biometric attendance system, arguing it is impractical for non-executive staff such as gardeners, gangmen and Group D workers. BBMP chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao, who met the protestors, promised that vacant posts would be filled soon and other demands would be looked into. BBMP chief cracks down on roadside littering

BENGALURU: Pacer Yamaha showroom in Hebbal was slapped with a fine of Rs 5,000 for dumping waste in public spaces. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, who was inspecting Hebbal flyover work, found that the showroom had discarded waste along the roadside, and directed BBMP marshals to impose the fine. Rao issued strict instructions to officials to take immediate action against roadside littering in the city. He instructed them to ensure vigilant monitoring and impose fines on violators. Inspecting the pedestrian walkway near Baptist Hospital, he emphasized that the path must be constructed in such a way that it ensures unhindered movement for pedestrians. He also instructed officials to repair damaged portions without delay. He took note of a known garbage dumping site (black spot) on 4th Main Road near Amruth Sagar Hotel in Hebbal, and told officials to get the area cleared immediately. Officials from Bangalore Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) promptly deployed an auto tipper and cleared the waste. To enhance urban cleanliness, BSWML has set up a complaint centre and a dedicated WhatsApp number – 9448197197 – has been provided for citizens to register complaints by sending a message along with a photo. Once received, officials concerned will resolve the issue and provide feedback within a specified timeframe.
