National TVET Day celebration - A Manifestation of govt's commitment to produce dynamic workforce
KUALA LUMPUR: National TVET Day, celebrated annually on June 2, is a manifestation of the government's determination and commitment to positioning Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a primary pathway in producing a dynamic, highly skilled, and future-ready workforce. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the celebration highlighted the progress of the country's TVET ecosystem as a key driver of human capital development, while also serving as a platform that offers educational and career opportunities in the TVET sector through the involvement of various stakeholders. In a post on X in conjunction with the National TVET Day celebration today, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the National TVET Council Committee chairman, said the efforts made were in line with the Malaysia MADANI framework, which places the TVET agenda as one of the priorities. The efforts, he said, include expanding access to TVET education to rural students, improving training facilities, and encouraging youth who want to build future careers through skills. 'In fact, with the strong support of various parties, including the government, private sector, educational institutions and the community, TVET will remain the main thrust in building a more inclusive, progressive and globally competitive Malaysia,' he said. In this regard, Ahmad Zahid invited the public to join in the celebration of National TVET Day 2025, to be held from June 11 to 13 at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Melaka. The theme of this year's TVET celebration is 'TVET, the Top Career Choice'.

Respecting differences key to stronger unity, says Hajiji
Hajiji KOTA KINABALU (May 29): Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has urged the people of Sabah to continue embracing and respecting their differences in order to foster a stronger bond of unity across the state. He said unity would grow deeper and more resilient if the people remained united in purpose. 'As such, I call on all Sabahans to stand with the government as partners in strengthening unity and preserving political stability, which are crucial for the well-being of the people and the smooth progress of our beloved state's development,' he said in his 2025 Kaamatan Festival message today. Hajiji said the annual Kaamatan celebration in May not only serves as a platform to strengthen camaraderie and unity among the multiracial and multi-religious communities, but also to express gratitude for a bountiful harvest. 'More importantly, Kaamatan reflects the harmony and goodwill that exist among the people of Sabah, values that resonate with the Malaysia MADANI aspiration, which emphasises humanity, mutual respect and togetherness,' he added. This year's celebration carries the theme 'Kaamatan Untuk Semua, Kaamatan For All, Kaamatan Montok Toinsanan', a message Hajiji described as deeply meaningful and inclusive. 'This theme clearly underscores that Kaamatan is not the celebration of a single community, but a festival for all people regardless of race, religion or background,' he said.

Late permit submission halts Smart Selangor bus service in Subang Jaya
KUALA LUMPUR: Bus services on five Smart Selangor routes in Subang Jaya were suspended after the operator failed to submit permit applications on time and did not meet key licensing conditions, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) said. The suspension of routes SJ01 to SJ05 left commuters stranded. They were forced to rely on more expensive alternatives, sparking frustration over the prolonged disruption. APAD clarified that the disruption was not caused by processing delays, but by SKS Coachbuilders Sdn Bhd's late submission of applications, which were only received on April 25 and 26. "The applications were received late and processed within less than 14 working days, in accordance with our client charter," APAD said in a statement. The applications were tabled at the Licensing Committee (eJKP) meeting on May 8 and granted conditional approval, as several key requirements had not yet been met. "There were several criteria and conditions that had not yet been met by the applicant. Among them were non-compliance involving the installation of a Global Positioning System (GPS) and an unlicensed Letter of Conditional Approval," the agency said. As such, APAD issued a conditional offer and allowed the company time to rectify the issues before final approval could be granted. The operator fulfilled all outstanding conditions by May 15, and full approval was granted on May 22. "APAD wishes to emphasise that any non-compliance with the prescribed criteria and conditions may result in permit or licence applications being rejected," the agency added. It urged all operators to comply with licensing terms to avoid a negative impact on passengers who rely on public transport, and reaffirmed its commitment to transparent and efficient service delivery in line with Malaysia MADANI values.
